Joe Biden finds that the Colbert bump survived the move to CBS.

Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

An internal memo circulating among supporters of a Vice President Joe Biden 2016 run for president shows that Stephen Colbert’s new CBS late-night show is still the home of the “Colbert Bump.”

The memo, sent to top officials at the super PAC Draft Biden by its data vendor — a D.C.–based startup called VEDA co-founded by former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser and Democratic consultant Meghan Buck — shows huge increases in web traffic and so-called engagement with Draft Biden in the week since Biden appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last Thursday.

“The power of the Vice President’s appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert cannot be understated,” Buck wrote in the memo, obtained by BuzzFeed News. “The Colbert Bump is real.”

This is one of those stories that I wanted to post just because it made me feel good to read about it.

However I am sad to report that I am still not making it through the entire hour of the Late Show.

I'm an old man, what do you want from me?

(Psst! Just between you and me I also used to fall asleep partway through the Colbert Report too.)

Chuck Todd admits that he does not ask tough questions because if he did he would no longer be able to book certain guests.

During a roundtable discussion with several comedians Meet The Press’s Chuck Todd made excuses for why he lets Republicans get away with saying things that aren’t true. Lewis Black asked Todd how he put up with guests who babble on with their talking points without barking at them, and Todd’s answer revealed why people don’t trust the media.

The Meet The Press host said, “We all sit there, because we all know, the first time we bark is the last time that they do the show. You say something, and sometimes it is last time they will ever come on your show. There is that balance.”

To be fair Todd does not identify Republicans as the people he is unable to "bark" at but it is quite obvious.

Especially since comedian W. Kamau Bell follows that up by saying this:

"Comedy gets to bark. But the weird thing is that Fox News also gets to bark. And I think sometimes the Left, you know the left leaning media, is afraid of barking."

That is so well put, and so absolutely true.

So in other words Fox News gets to tear into politicians (I think all of us remember how disrespectful Bill O'Reilly and Bret Baier were to President Obama when he subjected himself to Fox News interviews.), while more mainstream media types tiptoe around conservative politicians as if they are afraid that they won't like them on Facebook after the show if they dare to ask them a tough question.

And that's why once great shows like MTP are a joke these days. Because they are filled with bullshit softball questions that never challenge the conservative interviewee in any way.

Last night's musical Colbert Report send off. Might need a hankie.

Ah man that was so good.

I ma going to really, really, really, miss this show.

As a bonus here is Stephen Colbert and President Obama backstage at George Washington University last week practicing this song together.

"No one’s going to pay me to watch him anymore, so fuck that noise." Stephen Colbert finally breaks character and reveals how he REALLY feels about Bill O'Reilly.

Is it wrong that I found this so satisfying?

Two more shows and then we lose this amazing show.

Dammit! I said I wouldn't cry.

Stephen Colbert does a little mocking of the Colorado state lawmaker who believes that President Obama needs an exorcism.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

On last night’s episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert savaged Dr. “Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt, the former Navy chaplain turned Colorado state lawmaker.

Colbert played a clip of just some of the bizarre things that this Dr. Chaps has said:

“The demonic spirits inside the homosexual agenda are trying to redefine family,” Klingenschmitt says in the clip, “trying to homosexualize your children. Jesus, if he were giving marriage counseling to two gay men who were married, Jesus would command them to get divorced.”

“Yes,” Colbert responded, “if Jesus were their marriage counselor, he would tell them to get divorced. And he would take 65 minutes to do it, so he could charge them the second hour. But it’s not just the gays — everyone needs a little Klingenschmitt exorcism.”

“Don’t you think there’s something inside the atheist complainer that’s wrong,” he says in another clip. “I have a solution! Let’s do an exorcism, cast the devil out of them! Julius Genachowski, the outgoing FCC chairman, has not enforced decency standards. The demonic spirit inside of him influences him to abuse, and dare I say, molest and visually rape your children.”

Good job Colorado Republicans, this guy is the perfect example of our current GOP.

Later Colbert plays the clip where Klingenschmitt suggests that the President is possessed by a demon, after which he has this to say:

“Yes,” Colbert said, “Obama’s possessed by a demon — and he won’t even show us its birth certificate. Now, saying the president is possessed by a demon could be seen as a tad inflammatory, but after he was elected, Klingenschmitt told a Colorado newspaper that, ‘I would say it is time for people of good will on both sides of the political debate to come together to have reasonable discussions about these issues.’”

Like I said the other day, it is becoming increasingly difficult to define the line between where the actual quotes from Republican politicians end and parodies of them begin.

If any of you think that this Dr. Chaps guy sounds familiar it's because we did our own reporting on him just last week.

This is from a few nights ago, but Stephen Colbert's take down of Louie Gohmert is something that should not be missed.

To play video click the Gohmert
"People have said to me 'Stephen you gotta understand you don't even know your history. You're dumb, you're dense. You're a mental midget with an IQ of a butter dish whose mind is a black hole that sucks all surrounding thought into it in an infinite singularity of pure stupidity. Stephen I'm surprised you can dress yourself. I bet you have to rub peanut butter inside your lips to remember to open your mouth to breathe. I have never met, and I hope to never meet again, a man so pervasively, astoundingly, unyieldingly, ignorant.' To which I say well then you haven't met Louis Gohmert."

God that was a thing of beauty.

How did he know?

I don't know how I missed this, but apparently Stephen Colbert predicted that John McCain would pick Sarah Palin as his running mate way back in 2006.

You know I don't usually buy into prognostication but I have to admit THAT is just freaky.

And finally to end our day, Stephen Colbert's hysterical episode of "The Word" from last night's show.

I have to admit that I am not enjoying John Oliver's hosting of the Daily Show as much as I had hoped, but thankfully there is always Stephen thirty minutes later to bring back the funny.

This episode from last night was brilliant, so I thought those of you who missed might enjoy seeing it, and it if you DID watch it, well it is quite good the second time around as well.

The return of Stephen Colbert, and his beautiful and emotional tribute to his recently deceased mother.

Just click photo to play video
Stephen's tribute was very poignant, and the few times he struggled to compose himself were heartbreaking.

He is clearly a son who adored his mother and have little doubt that she adored him as well.

Stephen Colbert mocks the GOP Growth and Opportunity Project.

"Republican leaders should participate and actively prepare for interviews with the Daily Show, the Colbert Report....."

Oh yes, this is a FABULOUS idea!  I can only imagine much quicker the youth will move away from the Republican party after watching them flail away in an attempt to make their point while sitting opposite Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Gonna be a bloodbath. A very, very humorous bloodbath.

James Franco challenges Stephen Colbert's knowledge of Tolkein trivia. Oh, when will you ever learn, James?

I think I reported before that when Colbert visited the set of the Hobbit that they had a Tolkein trivia contest ,and that he won so convincingly that the director Peter Jackson started coming to him when he had questions about certain parts of the mythology.

You know sometimes it pays to be a geek.

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to have the best take on the Rubio water grab EVER!

And if you like that, you are going to LOVE this!

Oh my God, that was hilarious!

You know I was watching Rachel Maddow yesterday and she essentially pleaded with the Republicans to NEVER put one of their politicians in the position of giving the response to the SOTU speech ever again, as it is the kiss of death for them.

I disagree. In fact watching them fail so spectacularly may be my FAVORITE part of the SOTU night.

Stephen Colbert talks about the lunatic fringe of 2nd Amendment advocates including those who want to join the Citadel in Idaho. Remember them?

As many of you remember we covered the Citadel about a month ago. And we had a LOT of fun with these batshit crazy freaks.

I am thrilled with Colbert talking about it on his show as he does an INCREDIBLE job of showing what lunatics these people really are! Both he and Jon Stewart are kicking ass on this gun violence issue.

I was a little disappointed in the Daily Show last night, but then Stephen Colbert came along to take up the slack.

Ahh, now THAT was almost worth waiting two days to see!

I was very excited to finally get to watch the DNC coverage, and then the Daily Show and Colbert Report, make fun of that DNC coverage. But Stewart simply did nothing to satisfy my insatiable desire for parody.

Thankfully Stephen Colbert brought the goods.
