The Family Guy gets it.

It's really not about what you've done. It's really all about skin tone.

I think Family Guy has a pretty clear understanding of religion.

I have to say that this is pretty much how I view Christianity and religions as well.

And to be honest in this day and age it seems to be the last prejudice that is widely accepted when making decisions about where people can live, who they can marry, and which laws they have to follow.

Count "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane as one of those NOT intimidated by Sarah Palin and her crazed followers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

"Family Guy" will likely bring back a character that made headlines for angering Sarah Palin.

Creator Seth MacFarlane told Comic-Con audiences that "Down Syndrome Girl" would likely make a return to the show and even sang the character's theme song live to the San Diego crowd.

"My guess is that at some point we will [bring her back]," MacFarlane said, "despite all the Palin business."

The incredible backlash directed at Seth MacFarlane was fairly impressive, even by Palin-bot standards.

It is always very gratifying to see somebody emerge from that kind of vicious attack even stronger and more determined to continue doing what they have been doing, with even more energy and creativity.

My Family Guy viewing is sporadic at best, but you can bet I will make sure not to miss this one.

You know anything that pisses Sarah Palin off is "must see TV" for me.

Family Guy actress Andrea Fay Friedman talks about Sarah Palin, Down syndrome, and how Sarah treats Trig.

This brave young woman has suffered attack and abuse from the supporters of Sarah Palin simply for refusing to allow herself to be defined by her condition and for finding a humorous way to connect with the Family Guy audience.

Just look at how some Palin supporters express their anger at this actress:

Sorry but your a rotten lil bitch...i could care less you have down syndrome you know exactly what your doing. you ARE making fun of ppl with down syndrome to get your 15 minutes of fame...your disgusting!

She doesn't even realize she's being used. This is appalling and Insider should be ashamed of participating in it.

trig??? you talk about trig............if you are saying don't use him then stop using the fact you have downs syndrome in order to make money.........there's no difference

Her remarks about Sarah Palin's sense of humor and how she treats Trig are dead on. The reason the Palin-bots are so upset is because they realize that people are far more likely to take the side of this brave woman than the perpetual victim who they worship. Apparently Sarah's thin skin is contagious.

By the way if you did not see what Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane had to say about this controversy on Real Time last night you should do yourself a favor and click here. It was awesome!

Here is a brief YouTube advertisement for "A Possible Dream: The Andrea Friedman Story.

Embedding is disabled so to see the video you need to click here.

It is striking how much this young woman has accomplished in her life with the support of her loving parents and the help from professionals who helped her to not be identified simply by her limitations but to push those limits until she could achieve as much as possible.

Already the Palin-bots have started to suggest that Andrea does not have the mental capacity to compose this e-mail.

i don't think this 40 year old down's syndrome woman wrote this or formulated these political opinions. my guess is that she is being used a political pawn, to accuse governor palin of using her infant son as a political pawn.

What has been "set straight"? So you thought the line was funny. Millions didn't. Get over it. You still get paid. The only thing this "sets straigh" is that Andrea doesn't mind being exploited by script writers, and her own family, for their political biases. Read the last sentence again. As they say, "you are what you hate"...

Unfortunately Andrea may mind if she understood the complicated political arena she has been pushed into by her dad who set up this gig for her.We need to protect out special needs community not use them as pawns... and no, Sarah carrying her infant son in public or private does not make him a pawn.

in any event what does the friedman letter prove no matter who wrote it. only one family was being made fun of in the cartoon and that was the palin family. now if the friedman family was made fun of in the same way then i would care what they thought but until then i would rather hear from bristol and what she thought.

Perhaps the person who composed the above e-mail was not aware of Andrea's educational background:

EDUCATION
Pre-School: Santa Monica Presbyterian Nursery School, Santa Monica
Elementary: Seeds University Elementary School at UCLA, Los Angeles

Junior High: Fernald School at UCLA
ERAS School, Los Angeles
High School: West Los Angeles Baptist High School, Los Angeles
College: Santa Monica College, Santa Monica

(You can read more about Andrea's accomplishments here.)

The real lesson to learn here (and I certainly hope that somebody will bring it to Sarah Palin's attention) is that children who are born with certain challenges should not be defined by them. They can achieve amazing things and live a satisfying life filled with wonderful experiences and as much normalcy as any other person on this planet.

Sarah Palin DOES drag Trig around as a prop. There are literally dozens of photos of him without his much needed glasses and hearing aids, not to mention his damn socks! These are the years when he is gathering data, and making sense of the world around him. That ability is diminished badly if he cannot see or hear appropriately.

Does anybody think that Andrea could have achieved ALL that she has if her parents did not give her the loving care and tools she needed to see and hear the world around her? The obvious answer is no.

So who better to speak up for Trig Palin than this woman who shares his diagnosis, yet is living proof of how full his life can be with the proper support and educational opportunities?

Actress who provided voice for Down syndrome character on the "Family Guy" says that "former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor."

Ms. Palin, whose son Trig also has Down syndrome, has said that the “Family Guy” show “really isn’t funny” and was the work of “cruel, cold-hearted people.” Ms. Palin’s daughter Bristol has written that the “Family Guy” writers were “mocking my brother and my family,” and called them “heartless jerks.”

One person who supports the “Family Guy” staff is Andrea Fay Friedman, the 39-year-old actor and public speaker who played Ellen in that episode. Like the character, Ms. Friedman also has Down syndrome.

In an e-mail message sent on Thursday to The New York Times, Ms. Friedman wrote:

I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line “I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska” was very funny. I think the word is “sarcasm.”

In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life.
My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes."

Oh this is perfect! I am absolutely loving the fact that Sarah Palin "Champion of Down syndrome children everywhere" is getting schooled by an actual person with Down syndrome!

Take a look at this part of the interview where Andea Fay Friedman explains to Sarah who was REALLY being made fun of.

Q.When did you find out about the reaction that the episode elicited from Sarah Palin and her family?

A.[laughs] That I did not even know about until my mom told me, “You’re on Channel 4!” And when I watched on Channel 4, on “Extra,” and I saw Sarah Palin with her son Trig. I’m like, “I’m not Trig. This is my life.” I was making fun of Sarah Palin, but not her son.

Now do you get it Sarah? They were laughing at YOU, not little Trig, YOU.

So stop hiding behind your children and face your critics like a real Alaskan woman.

Yeah fat chance of THAT happening!

Sarah Palin on The Factor talking about the Teabaggers and complaining that The Family Guy attacked her family.

Part One:

In this clip Sarah Palin claims not to have seen ANY extremism among the teabaggers, and blames the media for WANTING to see that. I found it particularly interesting that Sarah Palin made the point that the "birthers" should not have their 1st amendment rights taken away, especially after she had both Dennis Zaki and I escorted out of a public book signing event by the Wasilla police.

The part near the end where O'Reilly tries to get Palin to explain how a disorganized bunch of lunatics like the teabaggers can get organized to become a political force while Palin just keeps throwing out pathetically inadequate talking points should be proof positive to anybody looking toward Sister Sarah for leadership that she is simply an empty shell and has NOTHING of substance to offer anyone.

Part Two

Sarah Palin can see into the future? Then she must have known she was going to lose that last election. Gee I wonder why she seemed so surprised? (Did you see Piper race to rescue Trig from her mother's careless embrace?)

Sarah goes on to compound the lie that Bristol wrote the Facebook response to the Family Guy episode. (Oh I wish I could divulge who I talked to today that told me that there was NO way that Bristol wrote that post! Maybe soon.)

In her effort to make it seem that her condemnation of Rahm Emanuel's use of the word "retarded", and her defense of Rush Limbaugh's repeated use of the word "retards" is not hypocritical, she totally misrepresents BOTH of them. Palin claims that Emanuel called "a group of people he disagreed with effing retards". That is not true. What he DID was to say that the plan of progressives to place ads attacking Democrats for not supporting the Health Care bill was "fucking retarded". He did not call any person a retard.

And Palin's claim that Rush was using "satire" to bring to light what Emanuel said is also patently false. In fact Rush was making fun of the fact that people like Sarah Palin were getting their panties in a wad over the use of the word.

"Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards," Limbaugh said on the show. "I mean these people, these liberal activists are kooks.

"They are loony tunes. And I’m not going to apologize for it, I’m just quoting Emanuel. It’s in the news," he continued.

"I think their big news is he’s out there calling Obama’s number one supporters f’ing retards. So now there’s going to be a meeting. There’s going to be a retard summit at the White House.

So in Sarah Palin's mind using the word "retarded" in a closed door session to describe an idea that Rahm Emanuel does not like, and having a Down Syndrome teenager on an animated show with a selfish attitude, is terribly wrong and must suffer a Palin style Facebook smackdown. But Rush Limbaugh calling people "retards", and broadcasting that there will be a "retard summit" on the public airwaves is perfectly okay?

You know lady, that logic is fucking retarded. I just thought somebody should point that out.

"Bristol" takes to Facebook to condemn Family Guy's portrayal of a Down syndrome character on their show. Cue the shocked outrage.

People are asking me to comment on yesterday’s Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut. Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode yesterday. Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make about an issue that begs the question, “when is enough, enough?”:

“When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin. My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them? As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks. - Bristol Palin”

- Sarah Palin

Okay look I certainly cannot defend Family Guy in all good conscience. The show is famous for going way over the line with its comedy. However with that being said, I also have to admit that I am a fan. Sure it makes me cringe sometimes, and there have been a few episodes where I actually had to turn the station (I have the same response to South Park). But there have also been several absolutely hysterical episodes that I have watched more than a few times.

I watched this episode on Hulu just now and I think "Bristol" has no idea what the hell she is talking about. Besides one pretty funny one liner referencing a "governor of Alaska" there is NO similarity between the Down Syndrome character on the show and Trig Palin. For one thing the character is a girl, so unless Sarah has even been lying about Trig's gender I think we can safely assume it is not supposed to represent him.

In fact the point seems to be that people often expect those with special needs to be sweet and innocent when in fact they can be just like everybody else, and that includes being selfish and insensitive. This is the Family Guy, so of course that message is delivered in a cringe inducing humorous manner.

Once again Sarah has taken this opportunity to play the victim, and perhaps even more egregious, is hiding behind her teenage daughter and using her as a more sympathetic figure to "defend" the family honor. Of course this will result in even more media attention for poor pitiful Sarah, but it will also get the Family Guy episode more attention. So I guess in the end everybody wins. Sarah gets to play the victim, the Fox writers get to irritate Sarah again, and Seth McFarlane gets some more attention for his show.

Did anybody else notice how similar "Bristol's" Facebook post was to "Sarah's" Facebook posts? Well we know they share clothes and babies, do they also share ghostwriters? Hmm could be.

By the way if you are at all curious and want to see the Family Guy episode that started all of the fuss, I have embedded it below. (And no this does not mean that I in any way endorse it. I just don't like people jumping to conclusions without all of the information.)

Family Guy takes a shot at Sarah Palin.

Tonight’s episode featured a “unique” story line where character Chris Griffin was dating a girl with Down’s Syndrome. A dangerous territory for comedy to be sure, that turned ugly, when Ellen (the character with Down’s Syndrome) revealed that her mother was the former governor of Alaska.

You know what makes this even more amazing is that this is a show on Fox. Do you think somebody is trying to send a message?
