Even in Texas murdering a local cat and sharing the picture on social media will get you fired. And being a veterinarian is no excuse. (Warning: Graphic picture.)

Courtesy of HuffPo:

A Texas veterinarian was fired after a Facebook photo showing her with her "first bow kill" -- a local cat -- went viral. Dr. Kristen Lindsey bragged online that she killed a "feral" cat in her neighborhood in Brenham.

She posted a photo on Wednesday, which shows her holding up the dead cat by an arrow protruding from its head, according to KBTX.

And if that was not bad enough, and really it should be, it turned out that the "feral cat" was in actuality a beloved house pet.

Lindsey apparently didn't know that the "feral tomcat" she bagged was actually Tiger, a 6-year-old orange Tabby who went missing earlier on Wednesday. A Facebook page titled "Justice For Tiger" was quickly set up and called for Lindsey to be charged with a crime.

It has not yet been decided if Dr. Cat Murderer will be charged with a crime, but it is unlikely she will be practicing veterinary medicine in the area, or perhaps anywhere at all.

Now pardon me for my ignorance, I'm not from Texas, but how is it possible that this woman vet did not recognize that killing cats for sport would make people unlikely to trust her with the lives of their pets?

I mean that would be like having a doctor in the area that sat on the hood of his pickup truck with a high powered rifle picking off inmates as they attempted to escape from the local prison on his days off.

The Palins get a new dog. Let's hope they treat it better than they do the children.

So Palin's latest Facebook post is about a service dog for Trig. As well as an opportunity to reinforce her support for Jews, and to pretend that she is doing something for her youngest son.

Here is a what her ghostwriter posted:

Happy household this weekend as we welcomed a new addition to our family! Our new four-legged love, Jill Hadassah, comes to us with great training under her collar by our friend in Iowa Becky Beach and her Puppy Jake Foundation, along with Canine Craze in Des Moines. The Puppy Jake charity trains dogs for adoption by our service men and women, including those recovering from PTSD, as well as families with special needs. Jill Hadassah has been trained to be Trig’s buddy, and we’re over the moon to finally have her home! Thrilled, too, because all the rescue dogs and cats our kids have adopted over the years will hopefully learn something from our first dog trained to do anything! She’s brilliant and beautiful, and we feel very blessed to have her.

Thank you so much, Becky and Puppy Jake Foundation, for working with this tail-wagging bundle of love. We’ll treasure her, as she joins the rest of the current furry members of our family: Lucy, Lola, and Wilson.

Haddassah by the way is Hebrew for Myrtle tree, the name of Joe Lieberman's wife, as well as the name of a women's Zionist organization. Why Palin chose the name is anybody's guess.

I am sure that there is some pro quid quo going on here between Palin and this puppy foundation as Palin does NOT give free advertising for nothing.

I have to admit that I worry about animals that are housed in the Palin compound. There was a little dog named Charlie that ran away in 2012, and a dog named AGIA that I don't think anybody ever even saw.

Of course considering that Sarah is now legendary for poor parenting it would not be at all surprising to learn that the animals are neglected as well.

Well if this dog does manage to stick around perhaps it can finally provide Trig with the care that he so desperately needs. Maybe help him to keep track of his glasses and hearing aids, teach him to chew hard foods, and maybe even help him with his potty training.

After all, somebody has to help the poor kid.

Sometimes cats are just dicks.

I had a cat once that was a holy terror.

He waited in the hallways for us kids and scratched at our feet as we walked by. Such an asshole.

However our little terrier was taking none of that from a cat and she chased that cat, who was much bigger, all over the house.

But the best deterrent we had against a takeover by the nine cats that my mother had in those days was my dog Kino.

Kino was a 120 pound part husky, part German shepherd, part wolf hybrid and he did not suffer crap from the animals lower on the food chain in any way.

I remember once watching a cat sneak over to his food bowl in the corner while he slept on the floor by the door. It took the cat about ten minutes to finally, slowly work his way over to that bowl.

Once the cat was positive that Kino was too deeply asleep to catch him he started to eat.

But Kino was not asleep. His eye opened and he very slowly rose to his feet, walked up behind the cat, and let go one baritone bark that sent that cat right into the wall behind the bowl.

At first I thought maybe the cat had broken its neck, but it quickly scrambled to its feet and ran up the wall and onto a nearby cabinet, and from there across every surface up off the ground until he had made it down the hallway and away from the terrifying beast.

Kino then sniffed his food and walked over to his former spot to continue his nap.

President Obama proves he hates white people by getting yet ANOTHER black dog. Oh and he named it after an Islamic religious faction as well. The Horror!

Cute dog right?

Wrong! Not if you are a crazed Right Wing racist it's not.

This from the Daily Caller:

“A Portuguese Water Dog can range in cost wildly. On average, one will pay between $1,400 and $2,000. President Barack Obama has this breed of animal,” according to an answer on Ask.com.

With the addition of Sunny, the Obamas now have two black Portuguese water dogs.

The Obamas do not have any white dogs.

Can't argue with that. Clearly the new dog Sunny, is black. Completely black.

Unlike Bo who had a little white on his paws this new dog is clearly a member in good standing of the Black Panthers.

And as if THAT were not enough (And seriously how could it not be?) the dog's name is also clearly an homage to the President's secret handlers, the Muslim Brotherhood.

This courtesy of the Atlantic Wire:

Sunny? That sounds sort of close to Sunni, as in the branch of Islam, the religion some conspiracy theorists think President Obama adheres to.

So there you have it. The President's new dog is an all black Islamist Fundamentalist who was probably brought in to help the President establish Sharia law and undermine the Constitution.

And that makes perfect sense. If you are a crazy person.

The difference between dogs and cats.

In this first video you can see a larger dog teaching a puppy how to navigate the stairs.

SO cute right?

Now watch a cat demonstrate a more straightforward approach.

You know I was thinking of getting a pet. Kinda leaning dog right now.

Just a dog and his President.

I strongly value humanity in my leaders, and it seems to me that THIS President is brimming with that quality.

Is this an indication of just how ugly politics will be this election year?

Ken Aden Arkansas democrat running for Congress
Courtesy of the Ken Aden for Congress website:

On the heels of a weekend of positive news coverage for the campaign of Democratic Congressional candidate Ken Aden, Aden’s campaign manager returned home to find his family pet slaughtered, with the word “liberal” painted on the animal’s corpse.

The Russellville Police Department is investigating, and a report will be made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Monday morning.

Jacob Burris, who has served as Aden’s campaign manager since late October, arrived home with his family Sunday evening, and his four children discovered the gruesome scene as they exited the family vehicle to enter their home.

The family pet, an adult, mixed-breed Siamese cat, had one side of its head bashed in to the point the cat’s eyeball was barely hanging from its socket. The perpetrators scrawled “liberal” across the cat’s body and left it on the doorstep of Burris’ house.

“To kill a child’s pet is just unconscionable,” Aden said Monday morning. “As a former combat soldier, I’ve seen the best of humanity and the worst of humanity. Whoever did this is definitely part of the worst of humanity,” he said.

“It is one thing to engage in civil political discourse, and for Republicans and Democrats to disagree with each other, which is an expected part of the political process. Taking it to this level is beyond unacceptable,” Aden said.

This is the outcome when certain cable news stations, and right wing radio shock jocks, vilify those on the other side the of the political aisle to such a degree that they no longer seem human. To these people "liberals" are in the same category as "commies," or "terrorists," or any other epithet you an imagine which conjures up visions of anti-Americanism.

I guess it could be worse, at least nobody was shot.

Oh wait....

(If you would like to send a message to the assholes who thought that murder of a family pet would stop this brave veteran's campaign, you can do so by contributing here.)

Mitt Romney on Peta, "Not happy with me because my dog likes fresh air." Did he really say that?

Like I mentioned before this might just turn out to be the story that actually causes Mitt Romeny the most difficulty moving forward.

Politicians are expected to change their positions based on whose vote they are trying to win. But EVERYBODY, both conservatives and liberals, love animals.

So strapping your beloved family pet to the top of a car, driving him 12 hours down a freeway while he craps in fear all over your car, and then claiming that the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals dislikes you because your dog likes fresh air, comes off as being just this side of inhuman.

And for a man who is comes off as wooden and lacking in compassion even on a good day, THIS paints a rather unfortunate portrait of who you are as a human being.

Not to mention what kind of President you would make if you were to win this election.

I shudder at the very thought.

Perhaps one of the biggest obstacles facing Mitt Romney's political aspirations might turn out to be the "Revenge of Seamus Romney."

Courtesy of Politico:

A Romney protester holds his "Dogs Against Romney'" sign outside the candidate's rally in Charleston, S.C., on Thursday.

For those have forgotten, the  stuffed dog on top of the car is a plush representation of Seamus, the pet dog that Mittens strapped to the top of the family station wagon, which he then drove at speeds of up to 60 miles an hour as the poor animal evacuated its bowels all over the back window.

Some poor choices in life might be explained away, but somehow I don't think that this story is going to be going away any time soon.

Beloved family pet dies in agony. Is it time to revisit the idea of fur trapping in Alaska?

One minute a family dog named Grizzly was playing in front of the house, the next he was shrieking and thrashing wildly, a trap locked in a death grip around his head, his face distorted by the pressure and pain.

The 4-year-old Rottweiler, pet of Tony and Natalie Lazenby and loved by others in the neighborhood, died a couple of hours later, his throat crushed, the Lazenbys said.

It took four people to get the trap off the dead dog's head.

The Conibear 220 spring-loaded trap that killed the dog Wednesday is now in the hands of authorities. It's designed to kill foxes, beavers and coyotes. Dogs occasionally die in them, too, but typically while on hikes with their owners in wild places, and typically in areas open to trapping.

Now it is important to note that this animal did not die due to a simple accident.  This dog died because somebody set a trap specifically to kill it, or another dog just like him.  Traps set within city limits are strictly forbidden.

Reading the description of how this beautiful animal suffered before it died will tear at the heart of anybody with even an ounce of humanity.  Nothing should have to suffer like this in its final minutes of life.

Which brings me to yet another example of something Alaskan that I find personally repugnant.

I am not a Vegan or PETA member but I am a human. And as a intellectual, compassionate being I feel a certain connection to the creatures that I share this planet with.  I simply do not like to see anything suffer, and my own personal code of ethics dictate that I not injure or kill anything that does not pose a significant danger to myself or my loved ones.

Trapping in Alaska has a long and honored history.  We even have a parade and a week long celebration in its honor called the Fur Rondy. (Short for Fur Rendezvous) In the early days of Alaska's history trapping was much respected way of life, and for many settlers and natives the only way they could support themselves and their families during the harsh Alaskan winters.

However as technologies improved and other employment opportunities emerged, trapping was relegated to mere pastime for most Caucasians though it is still considered a necessary subsistence activity for Alaska natives.

My point is that in 2008 fur trapping is not something that the vast majority of Alaskans need to participate in to survive, and if it is done simply as a "sport" then it needs to come to an end. Hunters can brag about following a moose for many miles through swampy underbrush and finally getting that clean shot which ends its life abruptly and relatively painlessly.  But trappers certainly can make no such claims.  They know that the creatures who fall prey to their snares or traps suffer mightily in their final moments, and simply do not care.

And if it is not something that is needed for survival then it is simply killing for the sake of killing. And it is done in the most brutal fashion imaginable.

I recognize that in nature predators devour prey, and that death in the wild is always brutal and filled with pain and fear.  I accept that reality.  I also understand that human beings are nothing more then self aware animals.  However if we are to really live up to our fullest potential it seems to me that we should endeavor to cause as little harm as possible to other living things and to find the most humane methods imaginable to harvest our food.  Trapping is in no way humane.  The animal caught in the snare or trap suffers horribly before it breathes its last.  To my mind, in an enlightened world,  that is indefensible.
