The annual NHL Winter Classic is set to be played on Monday, January 2nd and will pit the Philadelphia Flyers against the New York Rangers. Recently, NHL.com writer Adam Kimelman published quotes from a few important Philadelphia basball figures in regards to the upcoming outdoor contest, to be played at the Phillies' home, Citizens Bank Park. He spoke with Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., team president David Montgomery and the most tenured player on the team, Jimmy Rollins. Amaro: "It's pretty cool. It's been pretty neat watching the development, the things that are happening. … I've been watching every single day we walk in. I take a route in through the concourse and check out the progress. It's been neat to watch." "I'm born and raised here, a big Flyers fan. I was here when the Broad Street Bullies were big-time. I think I was 9 or 10 years old when they were winning. And it's exciting. I've always been a big Flyers ...

Hockey Taking Over CBP

The takeover has begun. As the holiday season approaches and winter becomes more imminent, January 2nd, the date of this season's NHL Winter Classic draws nearer. In 2012, Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park will play host to the annual regular season hockey contest that is broadcast on national television. The ballpark is otherwise home to Major League Baseball's Phillies. In the upcoming game, the Flyers will take on New York Rangers. It will be New York's first Winter Classic appearance, while the Flyers, who lost at Boston in 2010, will be seeing action in the annual event for the second time. This will mark the fifth year for the NHL's premiere regular season contest, which first took place in 2008 at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL's Bills. The process to convert the baseball playing field into an ice rink, in time for the week of hockey events set to take place at CBP, began this week. In addition to the January 2nd regular season...

Rays Support Blackhawks, Manager Bans Flyers Gear

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has hockey fever. All jazzed up over the Stanley Cup Finals, Maddon set the dress code for the Rays' road trip to Toronto, on Sunday, as mandatory hockey sweater night. Rays pitching coach Jim Hickey, whose nephew works for the Chicago Blackhawks, swapped messages with the hockey club and they offered red home jerseys to any Rays player who wanted one, for the occasion. Many accepted, others opted to wear the jersey of their favorite team instead. Additionally, Maddon would not allow any Philadelphia Flyers jerseys to be worn. The Flyers are facing Chicago in the finals of the NHL playoffs. Maddon said he had enough of Philadelphia when they defeated the Rays in the 2008 World series. The Rays and Blackhawks teamed up for the sake of anti-Philadelphia sentiment This is certainly an odd situation, as Tampa has its very own NHL franchise known as the Lightning. I wonder how Lightning owner Jeff Vinik feels about his neighbors supporting rival out-of-...

Winter Classic Coming to Another MLB Venue

Folks, the annual NHL Winter Classic is coming up on New Year's Day. Philadelphia's very own Flyers, riding a 4 game win streak, will be participating in the contest as they visit the Bruins in Boston. A couple years ago, the NHL started the tradition of an outdoor game each year on January 1st. The first Winter Classic was hosted by the Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the Buffalo Bills normally play, and the second one was held at Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play, with the Blackhawks hosting. Still in its infancy, the NHL plans to make the Winter Classic bigger and better each year. This year's game being played at one of sports' most storied venues fits right in with that plan. Fenway Park, the usual dwelling of the Red Sox, with be home to the Bruins on New Year's Day. Soccer and football have both been played at Fenway Park in the past, but this will be the first hockey game played there. Fenway will also host a NCAA game when Boston University ...

Round 2...

Happy second night of Hanukkah. Coming in at #7 on the list of "The 8 Best Phillies Videos of 2008 (that I can find on Youtube)"...is the Phillie Phanatic getting his groove on with Shawn Hill, the dancing flyers phan. Flyers phaithful know Hill as the guy in the top row of the Wachovia Center that is featured on the video board throughout home games "whylen out" and boogying down to all types of music. *BONUS* Both Shawn Hill videos with the Phanatic are equally as entertaining, so #7 is a two-parter. Let's go, Flyers!
