PhoulBallz Interview: Off-season Check In with catcher Logan O'Hoppe

Photo via Logan O'Hoppe's Twitter The Phillies Gulf Coast League West team saw a promising backstop emerge last summer as 18-year-old Logan O'Hoppe impressed with his statistics and his work behind the dish. Selected in the 23rd round of last year's draft by the Phillies, O'Hoppe quickly signed and made an impact in the Rookie level short-season GCL. In 34 games, the righty batting Long Island native sported a .367/.411/.532 slash line and was a standout leader for his pitching staff according to coaches. If O'Hoppe continues to pile on the production and enjoys some swift progress, it won't be long before the youngster is impacting betting odds, like those found on this page . Recently, I chatted with O'Hoppe about his thoughts on his initial professional campaign, an injury he suffered at Fall Instructs, how he's preparing for his first full professional season in 2019 and more.  Read ahead for that complete interview. -In hinds...

Winter Classic Coming to Another MLB Venue

Folks, the annual NHL Winter Classic is coming up on New Year's Day. Philadelphia's very own Flyers, riding a 4 game win streak, will be participating in the contest as they visit the Bruins in Boston. A couple years ago, the NHL started the tradition of an outdoor game each year on January 1st. The first Winter Classic was hosted by the Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the Buffalo Bills normally play, and the second one was held at Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play, with the Blackhawks hosting. Soccer and football have both been played at Fenway Park in the past, but this will be the first hockey game played there. Fenway will also host a NCAA game when Boston University ...

Ready for The Series

Cowbells, mohawks, bad math equations...these things all await the Phillies in St. Petersburg. The Rays' fan base is mostly Johnny Come-Lately's. Their stadium is a mess. But the team has made history. The Rays have 37 more wins this year than they had last year. That is the biggest increase, from one year to the next, in modern baseball history. World Series note of the day #1- Phillies 25th man So Taguchi is the only player on either team to record a base hit in the World Series. Both teams are not required to set their rosters till Wednesday morning. There has been some speculation that catcher Lou Marson would make the World Series roster for the Phils, so that back up catcher Chris Coste could be used as a designated hitter against lefties, and that would cut the risk of leaving the Phillies in a stuck position if starting catcher Carlos Ruiz were to become injured during a game. MLB rules state if your DH plays the field, the team loses their DH, and the pitcher ...
