A Bobby Sherman Saturday 9.....

I am linking up with the Saturday 9 and send a thank you to Sam Winters for today's Q&A!! I remember Bobby Sherman. He really should have stuck to acting...he did that better than he sang! The girls were gaga over him though.

Little Woman

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Little Woman (1969)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song contains many weather references (clouds, rainbows, sunshine, rain). How's the sky where you are today?  As usual, blue sky and hot sun. Scattered fluffy clouds.

2) Bobby Sherman sings that when he's alone, he imagines his "Little Woman" is right there beside him. Do you often daydream?  No, and I don't really remember ever daydreaming about anything.  Gosh, maybe that is kind of sad!

3) Bobby had a very bright smile. Do you ever use whiteners on your teeth?  I won a professional teeth-whitening procedure at an auction once.  I went through with it and when my teeth stayed kind of gray the dentist asked if I had ever been on long-term antibiotics.  Yes.  In my early 20s, a doctor put me on a strong antibiotic to help me get rid of my acne.  I was on them for two years. Ridiculous now, but it is what they did back then.  The dentist said that the enamel on my teeth was damaged by that and they would never be really white.  Oh well.

4) He was beloved for his shiny hair. If we were to peek in your bathroom, how many haircare products would we find? Mine...shampoo, conditioner and a leave-in gel to stop the frizz.  So three.

5) After high school, Bobby attended Pierce, a community college in the west San Fernando Valley. For culinary students, Pierce offers courses in canning --specifically apples and peaches. If we were to peek into your pantry, would we find canned fruits?  Nope. No canned anything in my pantry. I'm too lazy to do it anymore so just buy what I can in the store or fresher at the Farmers' Market.

6) As an actor, one of Bobby's earliest performances was on the TV show Honey West. That series revolved around a female "private eye" adept at martial arts. Do you have any self-defense moves (that don't involve a weapon)?  No self-defense classes but I know about using the elbow, kicking the knees and stamping on the instep.  Hope I never have to try them out.

7) In 1966, Bobby did this rather energetic commercial for milk. Do you often enjoy a glass of milk?  I like milk but rarely drink a glass of it....especially now that there are no Oreos in the house.

8) When his show business career waned, he became a paramedic. Have you ever called 911?  Unfortunately, several times.  Joe's stroke was the last time.

9) Random Question: Which book do you think you could learn more from --The Joy of Sex or The Joy of CookingLOL...that's a loaded question but since I am cooking more now that I am retired, I'll go with the cookbook.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and commented on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for your visit!  We have nothing on the calendar for today, but who knows what we will get into!   This is the last Saturday in September!  Can you believe it?  Peace & hugs.

Friday Foto Friends....

Friday has rolled around again and that means it is time to link-up with Deb at Breathing In Grace for her Friday Foto Friends!!  Visit Deb and join in HERE!

I have a few photos to share today. Nothing really exciting, but just a little peek at my week....

Wednesday, I went with Joe to the ranch while he worked with his clients.
I take my Kindle so I can read and the perfect place is on their back patio
which overlooks this field where the horses had gathered.
Peaceful and beautiful.
I did walk down to the fence later and they all came to me
for some attention. So great!!

Lucy loves watching the for-cats video of birds.
We've been doing this nearly every day for five-six
minutes.  She jumps up on the arm of the chair
and I have to put the video on.

The project I mentioned a few days ago is in progress.
We need a thin shelf to go beside one of the twin beds in
the 2nd guest room. I found a shelf at Hobby Lobby
and am painting it black to match the beds.
The spray can I bought is AWFUL though. It is leaking
and spraying all over.  I will have to touch it up with a brush, I'm sure.
I won't mention the black paint on two fingers and under my nails.
Grrrrrrrr.  (When it is finished, I'll take a picture of it installed.)
I did get the latex gloves out for the second coat.

Wishing you a happy Friday and I thank you for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

Thankful Thursday....

Rebecca Jo over at Knit by God's Hand hosts a link-up for Thankful Thursday Posts!  Join in HERE!

This post will be a little short because I have one specific "Thankful" that I am going to mention today.

I am thankful for my blogging friends!!  You are always supportive!  You always say just the right thing!  You all lift me up!!  I am so thankful that over 10 years ago I started blogging and soon after began meeting some of you in person.  I am blessed with wonderful friends here in Lakeland (and beyond!), but I count all of you as my friends too.  When I refer to one of you, it is as "my friend....".

I wish we could have a big blogging friends reunion and all meet somewhere for a long weekend, all at once with hugs and laughter and more getting-to-know-you time.

That's all for this Thankful Thursday!  Thank you for your visits and comments!!

Peace, LOVE & hugs!!

It's a Dumpling of a Hodgepodge....

A big thank you shout-out to our hostess, Joyce, for this week's Hodgepodge!  She gives us the questions to answer and we link up with all the other Hodgepodgers!  Join the fun!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 323

1. What pets did you have while growing up?
We had a dog (and later, cats too). Tell us a little something about them.  Happy was our little black mixed-breed dog.  She was a puppy and my brother was only two (making me 6).  His favorite word to say over and over was 'hap hap happy' so that is what we named her...Happy.  We had her for 10-11 years or so.  I don't have a photo of her. Wish I did. :(

2. What is one thing you absolutely must accomplish today?  There is absolutely nothing I need to accomplish today, other than posting this Hodgepodge!  Retirement is so great!

3. Where were you ten years ago?  September 2007 puts me right here in Lakeland, FL.  What were you doing there?
We were a few months home from our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy, I was working at the Museum and Joe still had his accounting clients while working as the accountant at our church.  Life was good.  Life is still good!

4. September 26th is National Dumpling Day. Did you celebrate?  Nope. Didn't even know about it. Apple dumpling, xiao long bao (steamed Chinese dumpling), chicken and dumplings, pierogi, matzoh balls, or gnocchi...which dumpling on this list would be your dumpling of choice?  I like gnocchi well enough but would be dancing a jig if I could have a plate full of my mom's chicken and dumplings again. Have you ever made homemade dumplings of any kind?  I have made gnocchi, apple dumplings, and I have made chicken and dumplings (which were not as good as my mom's).

5. 'There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find an adventure and those who go secretly hoping they don't.' William Trogdon

So which kind are you? I was more adventurous when I was younger.  Now, I still enjoy a spur-of-the-moment road trip, which Joe and I call an adventure. I don't want to run out of gas or lose my GPS connection, however, so secretly hoping I don't, I guess!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I'm ending month two of my retirement and it still feels like a vacation to me!  No alarm clocks most mornings and nothing stressful on the calendar.  I do want to begin participating in things at our clubhouse and meeting more of our neighbors.  I also want to volunteer a few hours a week, probably with VISTE, but I'm feeling selfish for not wanting to start putting things on the calendar just yet.  I am enjoying my time with Joe, even when it is just watching TV.  I'm thinking perhaps after the holidays and when we turn the calendar to 2018 I might start fidgeting a bit.  Or not.  (Smiling.)

For my prayer warrior friends, my friend Gregory came through the surgery okay, but instead of a couple of hours and laparoscopy, the surgery lasted about six hours and they had to open him up. (Surgery was to repair a previous hernia surgery that went very bad.)  His dad called me Tuesday night, around 9:30, to let us know he had just gotten to his room and would now be in for 5-6 days instead of 3.  The doctor told them how bad it was and that it was no wonder he had been in such pain.  I had an email from Gregory yesterday telling me he was ok, but in lots of pain and didn't really want any visitors for a couple of days. Prayers for healing will be appreciated!  Thanks!

Thanks for stopping by today!!  Peace & hugs!

Tickled Tuesday Fun....

There are some extremely silly cat joke images out there!

I am tickled on this Tuesday because one of my blogging friends is coming to Lakeland on the 9th of October and we get to spend the day with her and her hubby! I've met Lynda and Bill a couple of times, the last one just a few weeks ago on our trip to Ohio.  Remember the big yellow chair?  It will be so fun to visit with them here and show them some of the sites here in Lakeland!

How is your Tuesday shaking out?  Hope something tickles you!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

Week/Weekend Recap on Monday....

Wow....where did the weekend go?!!  This past week and weekend are a blur and I really can't tell you that I accomplished anything. We just had appointments scheduled every day.

Monday, we had a business meeting with our friend Helen. We arranged for two trees to be cut down in her backyard and the two in the front yard were trimmed back from the roof.  They were damaged during the hurricane so FEMA will be picking up the HUGE pile from her front yard (everyone's front yard has huge piles, not just hers).  Now we need to get her a new roof on her house. That is in the works.

Tuesday we had haircut appointments (and that is when Joe and I both fell). Wednesday was my 4-month check up appointment with my primary doctor. All is well. Thursday we did grocery shopping at Sam's and Publix, then I went for my facial appointment.

Friday we took Mary Jane to lunch at Posto 9 in our historic downtown area.  She had never been there so it was fun introducing her to their Brazilian-themed menu to thank her for caring for our home and pets while we were in Ohio.  She retired a few months before me and just lives across the road from Mas Verde, in Grasslands. So happy to have her help when we travel!

Saturday I did laundry.  That made it feel like Sunday to me since Sunday was always my laundry day back when I was working! (grin)  Now I do it when I have a day to get it done (usually 5 small loads). Joe had HIS facial appointment (yes, he gets a facial every four weeks too).

I got a call from our friend Gregory asking if we could take him to Celebration (near Orlando) on Sunday.  He is scheduled for surgery on Monday at the hospital there and wanted to get to the hotel near there so he wouldn't have Orlando traffic to deal with on Monday.  His parents arrived at the hotel (from up north) and were there when we dropped him off. We were happy we had the time to help him out. He has helped us many times. That's what friends do.  I would appreciate a whispered prayer for him and his surgical team as you read this, please.  Surgery is early afternoon.

In between appointments and running, we watched an entire first season of The Durrells in Corfu, which is a PBS/Masterpiece series. It is so good (like so many are)!! Take a look if you want something new to watch.  We have also been watching Hamish McBeth, which is also a British series.

Thankful that neither of us has anything on our calendars today. I have a project to work on and need to get started on it.  More about that later!

Happy Monday!  Peace & hugs for stopping by!

Sunday Stealing is a Fashion Show.....

Today is a Fashion Show

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on
WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. You may have heard the expression, “honor among thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from, if possible. We also provide a link to the victim's questions in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from recently asked questions from a previously post. Cheers to all of us thieves!

This is Marissa Seymour who wrote an entry called Today is a fashion show & the world is my runway from which these questions are taken.

1. A way to win your heart:  Love God, love my family, love my cats!! :)

2. Something you feel strongly about:  God, my family, and my cats!! :)

3. A book you love: My all-time favs these days are the Outlander series of 8 books and waiting impatiently for #9.

4. Five pet peeves:  People who are late; people who are disrespectful; hurricanes; people who take advantage of others; people who are mean....

5. What you ate today: today(writing this on Saturday) we had ham & cheese omelets for breakfast, and pork chops, veggies and a cucumber salad for dinner

6. How important do you think education is?  extremely important

7. Five people you find attractive: my husband, our two sons, our four grands...oops that's more than five now.  All those I love are of course attractive to me!

8. What you wore today: a t-shirt and comfortable slacks

9. Something you always think “what if” about: I don't dwell on any "what if"

10. Something you’re proud of: our sons

11. Something you lust after: dare I say a donut?  LOL  (no carb diets!)

12. A word/phrase that makes you laugh: I have nothing specific, but Joe can keep me in stitches.

13. A quote you try to live by: Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.  Matthew 6:34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

14. Something you like and dislike about yourself: I like that I am positive 90% of the time; I dislike that I can be impatient.

15. A problem that you have had: I have a problem resisting potatoes and pasta, but I am back on low carb and have lost the four pounds I gained on vacation and during Irma. On to the next 10 pounds off!

Thanks to Bev for this week's Sunday Stealing!!  Join in and link up HERE!

Thanks for your visit! Happy Sunday!  Peace & hugs to all!

Saturday 9....Da Doo Ron Ron

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9.  You can join the fun HERE!!

Da Doo Ron Ron

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Da Doo Ron Ron (1977)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song begins by stating that he met her on a Monday and his heart stood still. How did your past week start? Fast!  It may be a lot to expect you to report that you met someone who made your heart stand still, but did anything noteworthy occur?  Nothing really note-worthy happened but we have had a busy week and it has sped by!

2) While making hit records, Shaun Cassidy also starred as Joe Hardy on theHardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books have been popular with generations of American kids. Were you a fan?  I LOVED Nancy Drew Mysteries and had 52 of them in my collection by the time I was 15 years old. I also enjoyed The Hardy Boys and watched it on TV. Good stuff!

3) Shaun went to Beverly Hills High School. Over the decades, BHHS has had many good football teams. Do you remember what sports your school excelled at?  My school had an award-winning football team my sophomore year. They had a perfect season of 10-0 and no one scored on them. Not one point in 10 games. It was an exciting time at Millersport High!

4) Shaun followed his older half-brother, David Cassidy, into TV/records/teen stardom. Do you have siblings?  Yes.  If yes, what career paths did they follow?  My brother was a very successful entrepreneur with his own business.  Both of my sisters (and my sister-in-law) are/were teachers.  My brother and sister, Patti, are Ohio University grads; my sister Tammy is a graduate of The Ohio State University.

5) His middle name is Paul, after his maternal grandfather. Tell us something about one of your grandparents.  My Pawpaw Kelly was a farmer and I remember times on the farm.  When they sold the farm and moved into town, he went to work for the county, mowing along the roadsides - still on a tractor!  He did that into his 70s.

6) Shaun's mother, actress Shirley Jones, reports that he was more than 3 weeks late and born by Cesarean. Have you heard family legends about your arrival into the world?  Oh yes. I was born on December 11, 1951, in the middle of a blizzard. When my mom started having labor pains, the doctor told her (by phone) to get out and walk. That meant boots, coats, gloves, scarves.... When I finally arrived (Fayette County Memorial Hospital), I came out face first and that caused blood in my spinal fluid so I was whisked away to Children's Hospital in Columbus for the first three days of my life.  I was told that my dad and grandma went to pick me up, still with lots of snow on the ground, and when dad got me home and put me in mom's arms she was so excited that I had a wet diaper so she could change it for me.  How's that for a grand entrance? LOL  I've heard the story many times, mostly from my grandma.

7) "Da Doo Ron Ron" was originally recorded by The Crystals. Can you think of another song that has been a hit by more than one artist? How about "The Look of Love"..... Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, Isaac Hayes, Diana Krall, and I think Herb Alpert did it too.

8) In 1977, when this version of "Da Doo Ron Ron" was popular, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak incorporated Apple. Are you Mac or Android?  Droid all the way!

9) Random Question: You're exhausted. You collapse into bed and are about to drift into slumber when you hear the drip-drip-drip of the bathroom faucet. Would you kick off the covers and go turn it off? Or would you stay in bed, letting it drip until morning?  I would definitely get up and fix it.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts.

Happy Saturday!  Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

Friday Foto Friends.....

I am linking up with Deb at Breathing In Grace for her Friday Foto Friends.....

I still have a few photos to share from our trip to Ohio.  My sister, Patti, lives in McConnelsville, Ohio.  It is a pretty, small town (with lots more than one traffic light).  They are known for having the smallest Kroger grocery store in the nation (maybe the world).

(That's my sis walking into the store....)

.....and I got this video from YouTube telling you about the smallest Kroger:

Patti said they also have the (or one of the) smallest free-standing McDonalds, so we had to drive by there so I could take a picture...

There is a store in town there called Jo-Ads and we love to pop in when we are visiting.  It is run by Mennonites and they just have the best of everything!  I bought apple butter, candies, soup mixes... just yummy goodies on every shelf.  The other side of the store is hand-made wooden furniture that is also wonderful.  I didn't take a photo of it this trip but found this one with a Google search....

If you are ever in the central/southeastern part of Ohio (south of Zanesville and north of Marietta) drive through the picturesque McConnelsville. It is located on the banks of the Muskingham River, too. Stop in the Chatterbox for lunch or dinner! Small town goodness!!

Thanks for your visit today!  Happy Friday!  Peace & hugs.

It's a 10/10 Hodgepodge!!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 322

Joyce, our Hodgepodge Hostess, gives us the questions and when we answer them, we link up with her and so many other Hodgepodgers!  Join in the fun!!

1. What's something you'd rate a 10/10? Tell us why.  I would give our hostess, Joyce, and her weekly Hodgepodge, a 10 out of 10!  Why? Because it is a bright spot in my week here in blog land! Something I can always count on to pull me out of the usual ho-hum post. Thank you, Joyce!!

2. What job would you be terrible at?  Ha!  Singing, speaking in public...(this could be a long list!)!!  What makes you think so?  I don't just think it, I KNOW it!!  LOL  No one wants to hear me sing anymore and I am a terrible public speaker.

3. When did you last take a fall?  As a matter of fact, it was just yesterday!  Joe and I both fell in the parking lot of our barber, after our haircuts.  Had nothing to do with lack of hair making us off balance.  (grin) I tripped on a cement wheel stop and my fall caused Joe to fall because he tried to catch me.  We both skinned elbows and Joe has a bad 'burn' on his arm that will be purple tomorrow. So blessed that neither of us broke anything.  Stupid accident (aren't they all?)!  (Teena, you came out when we had just gotten ourselves up and in the car!)  What's something you're falling for (in a good way) these days?  I am still falling for my new life as a retired person!  It feels so good to sleep longer than 5:00 a.m. and to really not have a stressful schedule anymore. So good!!

4. According to the Travel Channel here are some of America's best fall festivals-

National Apple Harvest Festival (near Arendtsville PA, close to Gettysburg), Harvest on the Harbor (Portland Maine), German Village Festival (Columbus Ohio), Wellfleet Oyster Fest (Cape Cod), and Wine and Chile Fiesta (Santa Fe NM)

Have you ever been to any of the festivals listed?
No.  Which one appeals to you most? I have to say the German Village Festival in Columbus because I LOVE German Village.  I would also enjoy the Apple Festival!  Does your hometown have any sort of fall celebration, and if so will you make it a point to attend?  My old hometown has the Sweet Corn Festival that we just missed because of rain when we were in Ohio.  Our current hometown, Lakeland, does not do a fall festival but we have the Mayfaire by-the-Lake art festival in May.

5. What is your goodbye message to summer?  In Florida, we don't really bid 'summer' goodbye until later in October or even in December when we can say goodbye to hurricane season.  Summer is our least favorite time here.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I really never have a truly random thought for #6, but I will just say that our first responders and all the many, many linemen who have worked so many hours helping Floridians get their lives back after Hurricane Irma tore through, so deserve our respect and our praise for the herculean work they have done (and continue to do).  Not just Floridians...all the people who are recovering from Harvey and Irma. God bless them for the work they do!

Thanks for your visit to my Hodgepodge!  Peace & hugs.

Tickled Tuesday and Our Ohio Trip, Part Two....

I ended yesterday's post on Saturday night after we had dinner at the Mexican Restaurant so this post starts on Sunday, September 3rd.

The house was full of family as we all got up when we woke up.  Jo Anne went to church while the rest of us had staggered breakfasts and drank about three pots of coffee.

We were going to celebrate Joe's birthday a couple of days early while we were all together.  Jo Anne invited another couple who we have known for years and years, Paula and Bill.

There were burgers and brats on the grill and all kinds of other food to go with our picnic.  After two days of rain, it was a beautiful day!!

Jo Anne had an ice cream birthday cake for Joe....his favorite.  Paula brought a homemade cheesecake, which is his other favorite!

We left Jo Anne's in the early evening. Sara headed back to Cincinnati and Jo Anne had to work the next day.  My sister, Patti, is also a teacher but her school had the week off for their county fair.

Patti gave me my retirement gift when we arrived at her house.  They live in McConnelsville, OH, about 90 minutes from Jo Anne's house.  Patti and Greg are very close to the West Virginia border and are not too far from Athens (home to Ohio University).

Monday morning, we all got up and were ready for a pontoon boat ride on the Muskingham River.  Patti's good friend, Cindy, owns the boat and agreed to take us out!!  The Muskingham has locks and the McConnelsville 'pool' is about 10 miles long from the upper lock to the lower lock. Cindy's dock is at the lower end of the pool so we set out for the upper locks.  The pace was leisurely and we had beverages and snacks along. It was a glorious day out on the water!!

The upper locks above & below...

Our hostess and host at the back of the boat.
Jet skiers were out and created a bigger wake than the boats!

We took Patti and Greg out for their wedding anniversary (22nd) that evening and Cindy and her honey came in, so we got to see them again.  When we finished and went home, we spent the evening watching movies and talking.

Tuesday, September 5th was Joe's actual birthday.  Since the weather was good, we decided to go to the Morgan County Fair so he could get his funnel cake!!  Finally!!  I think it was his best birthday present
Gate 3 wasn't the prettiest entrance, but the parking was free!

My sister has been teaching in Morgan County for 38 years.  She knows everyone and everyone knows her.  She is teaching grandchildren of some of her first students.  We had to visit the livestock barns and the 4-H displays.  She knew all the kids and their parents, and had to make over their animals.  It was cute!  Way back 100 years ago, I was in 4-H and entered a sewing project at the Fairfield County Fair.  I enjoyed seeing the displays made by the kids, and also the garden clubs.

Patti made chicken in the crockpot for our dinner.  Delicious.  We spent the evening talking and watching some more TV.  Joe and I were leaving the next morning.  With the hurricane heading for Florida, we canceled plans to see my friend Karen and her hubby Lee so we could get home as quickly as possible.  You know the rest. I posted about our trip home and the hurricane HERE.

Thanks for your visit!! Have a Tickled Tuesday!  Peace & hugs.
