Thought Provoking Questions, Part 2

From our Hostess:  Hi! I'm your host Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. (Past hosts include: Our first - Judd Corizan, Mr. L, Kwizgiver and Bud)  Cheers to all of us thieves!

These are from a site called Thought Provoking Questions..

1. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?  Art

2. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?  I wanted to be an art teacher or architect. No regrets though.

3. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?  Ha!  Only about 50 pounds.

4. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?  Faith, family, and friends.  The same things that matter now.

5. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards and just do what you know is right?  Right now. Why haven’t you done it already?

6. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?  My knees feel like they are 90 years old, so there is that.

7. Would you break the law to save a loved one?  No.  Not worth it.  We have to be responsible for our choices, hard as that might be to live with and understand.

8. What makes you smile?  Joe makes me smile and so do cat and dog videos.  Oh, and grandchildren, and then there are horses and goats....

9. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?  No, I don’t’ think so.  I don’t exaggerate things.

10. If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?  Stop with the hate!  Just stop it.  All we need is love to put the world back on track.

11. If the average human lifespan was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?  I wouldn’t live it any differently.

12. What do we all have in common besides our genes that makes us human?  Love.  We all start out with the capacity to love, I believe.

13. If you could choose one book as a mandatory read for all high school students, which book would you choose?  The Bible.

14. Would you rather have less work or more work you actually enjoy doing?  At this time of my life, less work, please!!

15. What is important enough to go to war over?  I loathe war, but I would fight for this country and our constitutional rights. No question.

16. Which is worse, failing or never trying?  Never trying.

17. When was the last time you listened to the sound of your own breathing?  Every night.

18. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?  I put sugar on cottage cheese.

19. What does ‘The American Dream’ mean to you?  The freedom to follow your heart.

20. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?  Oh, come on.  Somewhere in between the two, please! LOL

Saturday 9... The Fool on the Hill

The Fool on the Hill

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: The Fool on the Hill (1968)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Chosen because Monday is April Fool's Day.

1) As an April Fool's prank, Taco Bell once announced they had purchased The Liberty Bell and renamed it The Taco Liberty Bell. Describe your perfect taco.  My perfect taco is the Taco Bell Taco Supreme.  I love them better than the ones I make myself.  I don't care for fish tacos or shrimp tacos... just the Taco Bell Supreme on a crunchy shell.

2) Similarly, as an April Fool's prank, the Ford Motor Co. was supposed to wipe out the national deficit by purchasing the naming rites to a beloved monument, renaming it the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial. What model car do you drive?  A Ford Escape.

3) In 1998, Burger King got in on the April Fool's Day fun by promoting a special "Left-Handed Whopper," designed to be easier for a leftie to hold. Describe your perfect burger.  I do love the Burger King Whopper and will also eat a double at Wendy's.  If we make burgers at home, I must have mayo, ketchup, tomato, onions, and cheese.

4) In 1962, when color TV was still new, a Swedish station pranked viewers by telling them they could convert their black/white sets to color by cutting up a nylon stocking and stretching it across the screen. Of course, in 1962, more women wore nylons and screens were smaller. How big is your TV?  We have a 55 inch in the living room and a 32 inch in Joe's office/the den.  The guest room also has a 32 inch TV.  Are there any nylon stockings in your home?  I do, indeed, still have a few pair of hose tucked away in an old shoe box.  I haven't worn any in years though.

5) In 1957, the BBC ran an April Fool's story about how the Swiss were enjoying a "bumper spaghetti crop," with spaghetti literally growing on trees. Viewers who called the station, asking how to grow a spaghetti tree of their own, were told to place a sprig of spaghetti in a can of tomato sauce and hope for the best. Have you ever fallen for an April Fool's prank?  None that I can remember.

6) When Crazy Sam was growing up, her mother would surprise her on April Fool's Day by slipping a rubber worm or plastic spider in her lunch box. When you were in school, did you more frequently brown bag it or buy your lunch in the cafeteria line?  I usually bought my lunch in the cafeteria.  I think I remember that it was $3.25 a week... of course, that was in the mid-late 1960s.

7) This week's song was an international hit for Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. Because of the song's bossa nova arrangement, everyone assumed the lead singer, Lani Hall, was Brazilian. She was a folk singer from Chicago. Sergio Mendes discovered her at a charity benefit. Can you think of a time when doing good really paid off for you?  I try to do good when I can and don't expect it to "pay off" and can't think of a time I benefited from doing good, other than being happy that I could help.

8) In 1968, when this record was popular, Pierre Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada. Today his son holds that office. When did you most recently visit our neighbor to the north?  I haven't been to Canada since I was 15 years old.  We always vacationed there because my dad loved to fish and we stayed in a fishing camp on Rice Lake, in Ontario.  We went 3-4 years in a row.

9) Random question: Name three websites you visit every day.  Blogger.com; Facebook.com; Pinterest.com... of course there are more! LOL

Thanks for your visit today!  Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!

Friday Foto Friends...

Our hostess with the mostess is back with her Friday Foto Friends linky.  Please visit Deb at Breathing in Grace and join others who are sharing photos with friends!!  Thanks, Debbie!!

On Wednesday afternoon, we made our usual trip to the farm (Joe's client).  The weather was gorgeous, but out in the open spaces, the wind was really chilly.  I actually went to sit in the car for the last 30 minutes we were there.

I had carrots and apples to feed the 'babies'.  I gave the birds apple pieces before making my way to the horses and goats.

Karma, above, and Mallow, below.

Speaking of birds, remember this photo from last week?
It's the baby ducks in the incubator.

This is them this week!! Wow!

And here are some guineas, up close and personal.

Prince remembered that I was the carrot lady!
He is just a little aggressive!

Pistol, Majesty, and Doc.

When I walked over to the goat pasture, the horses
followed me to see if they could get some more treats!

I am off work today and did not set the alarm.  We will go to Helen's house this afternoon to celebrate her 91st birthday.  She has requested that we look into some home health care for her so we will be talking with her about what we found out and hopefully setting a meeting for next week.

On Saturday, we are going out to dinner with friends, Al and Theresa, and on Sunday I am cooking for the neighbors.  It will be a busy weekend and this is my working Saturday.

Happy weekend!!  Thanks for your visit today!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

Thankful Thursday...

Every week I am thankful for Rebecca Jo bringing us together for Thankful Thursday over at her blog, Knit by God's Hand!  Thanks, Rebecca Jo!  It is always important to count our blessings!!

** My list each week starts to sound the same, but I am so thankful for this man in my life!!  And I am writing this on Wednesday night, so it is still National Joe Day!!

** I am so thankful for our trips to the farm and the friendships we have with the two owners.  Photos from this week's visit will follow tomorrow.

** I am thankful for my dear friendships formed at the Museum over 20+ years and that includes the pets of my Museum friends.  This is Paisley.  She is Gregory's dog and we all shared pizza on Monday evening!

** I am thankful that Joe and I both got good reports at our primary care doctor appointments on Monday.  We have decided to switch doctors though and already have appointments with our new primary care physician, in June.  Here in Lakeland, there are two major clinics.  It really works best to have all of your doctors at one or the other because there is a bit of competitiveness between them. Now, all of our doctors will be at Lakeland Regional Health (except our dermatologist, who is at Watson Clinic).

** I am thankful for friendships and busy weekends with friends.

** I am thankful for all of you!!  Thanks for your visit!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Who is your favorite "Joe/Jo" and what can you tell us about him or her?  I laughed when I saw this "day" because, of course, MY Joe is my favorite Joe.  I write about him frequently so let me also write about my sister-in-law Jo Anne.  She is a teacher at a Christian school in Ohio.  She is my little brother's widow and is strong, loving, generous and a believer. She is a great mom to my niece and nephew, she is a great sister (we skip the in-law part), and I love her dearly.  This is Jo Anne and niece (bride in 2017) Sara...

2.  Who were you named for and do you or did you know that person?  I have no idea where Teresa/Terri came from but my middle name (below) is from my great-grandma, Verda Lee.
3.  Do you have a middle name and do you like it/use it?  Yes, Lee is my middle name, after my great-grandma.  I do use it.  I'm happy for the Lee.  Happy they didn't use Verda!!
4.  Have you ever named your car?  I have never named my car, past calling it "the Ford" or "the Kia".  Tell us about it, please!  Nothing to tell.
5.  Tell us the name of a fictional character you have never forgotten and why you remember it so well.  Stephanie Plum because I've read 25 books 'starring' her, by Janet Evanovich,  and they are always fun!  Also Scarlette O'Hara. I have read Gone With the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell, five times, and also Guinevere.  I've read The Once and Future King, by T.H.White, five times, too.  I have also read many of the Kay Scarpetta books by Patricia Cornwell. All memorable characters!
6.  Share something random with us about your week.  I am back to work this week after having nine working days off. It is a busy week, working everyone in, but that makes the time fly by.  We are at the farm this afternoon, which is usual and not random.  Helen wants us to stop by this evening to talk something over.  Her birthday is on Friday so we will find a way to celebrate. She hasn't been feeling well.  Sunday we are having the neighbors over for dinner because we are saying good-bye to our Canadian friends, who are leaving early next week.  They won't be back until November. 😔 I will miss them.

Weekend Recap on Monday...

We had a good weekend.  Not too busy, but we had some fun!

Friday morning, Joe and I had fasting lab appointments at our clinic.  After we gave our blood, we went out to breakfast at First Watch.  It is fairly new and we hadn't been yet.  They have lots of healthy choices on the menu when all we really wanted was eggs, meat, and hashbrowns. LOL  We did get our breakfasts, some good coffee and we can say we've been there, done that.  We paid over $30.00 for breakfast (with tip) and that is bordering on ridiculous, for us anyway.  We won't go back.

I did laundry and some cleaning and we got stuck in a marathon watching Strike Out (note: it is Striking Out) on Acorn TV.  Katie, at Preppy Empty Nester, mentioned it in one of her blogs last week so we checked it out and now can't wait for the next season to come out. Good stuff and thanks, Katie!

On Saturday, we continued watching Strike Out (Note: it's Striking Out) and then we took a break to watch Villanova get killed by Purdue in the basketball tournament game. It was very sad.

Yesterday (Sunday) we attended our first session (Redeemer 101) for membership in our new church. Another couple joined us, Bruce & Maryann, and they are also seeking membership. After church, we met our old friend and neighbor, Kathy, for lunch.  She is down here on vacation with her friend, Becky.  It was fun reconnecting with Kathy and catching up on the old neighborhood and people we know in common.  Becky is very nice.  This photo is the last time we saw Kathy. She and another friend were vacationing in Sarasota and we met them at The Ringling Museum that day.  You can see it was in 2005!

Here we were yesterday.  Kathy hasn't changed a bit!

Here is a photo of our old neighborhood on N. Armistead Street (not our homes, though) in Alexandria, VA.  We had a 2,400 sq.ft. townhouse with four bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room, formal living room and a walk-out family room with a fireplace and wet bar.  It was a lovely place to live but we still don't regret our move to Florida!  Both of our boys were living at home then, so the house was lively and full!  Kathy was right next door. She was a recent widow and a school teacher. Her hubby died not long after they bought the house and moved in. So very sad. She is a strong lady and we formed a good friendship quickly.  The people who bought our house are still living there, 30 years later.

I am off work one last day, today.  We have our 3-month doctor appointments this afternoon and we are having a pizza dinner with our friend, Gregory tonight.  Back to work for me tomorrow.

Oh, I need to share this, just for fun!  My BFF, Elaine, and her hubby are helping her mom clean out the house, preparing to move her into an assisted living home.  They found this tucked away somewhere and had to send me a picture of it.  Back in high school, I painted pictures of people's dogs on velvet and sold them for $10.00 (yes, including the frame made by my grandpa).  Now, Elaine's mom did not have a dachshund so I don't know how she ended up with this one, but there it is.  Made me laugh.  Thanks, Elaine and Jim, for the memories!

And, I took a picture of Vinny in the window, soaking up the sunshine.  He looks like he is all glittery!  And then there he is sleeping on my lap.

That was our weekend!  Thanks for your visit and patience with all these photos and memories!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!
