The Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  Y'all can join in HERE!

Morning Train

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Morning Train (1981)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Sheena Easton sings about her lover, who takes a train to and from work each day. When was the last time you took public transportation? Where did you go?  We flew to Ohio back in 2017.

2) His workday begins at 9 and ends at 5. Do your days stick to a predictable schedule?  Since I've been working part-time, yes I have had to stick to a predictable schedule.  That's about to change in another week!!

3) In the evening she sings that they may go to a movie, a restaurant or slow dancing ... whatever she wants. Which of those would you choose?  A restaurant, please.

4) As a little girl, Sheena Easton performed at family gatherings, not just because she was talented but because she could be a bit of a ham. When you were a kid, were more often shy or outgoing?  I am probably more outgoing than shy.

5) In the late 1980s she was the spokeswoman for Bally's health clubs. Do you have a gym membership?  LOLOLOL...  I can't stop laughing at that one.  I belonged to a gym once and hated everything about it, so no. Never again.

6) In 1987 she played Sonny Crockett's love interest on Miami Vice. Were you a fan of the show?  I don't think I've seen even one episode of Miami Vice.

7) This weekend is a good reason to have a picnic or barbecue. The best-selling barbecue sauce flavors are sweet, spicy, and smoky. What's your favorite?  Sweet, please.

8) Labor Day weekend may offer a golden opportunity for napping and sleeping in. Do you snore?  I've not stayed awake to listen... hahaha.  If I'm on my back, I can snore.  On my side, I think not.  Joe told me once that I don't snore, I purr.  Bless him.

9) Labor Day traditionally marks the beginning of the fall. Will you be adding any new fall clothes to your wardrobe?  I have purchased a couple of new tops that were on sale.  I'm still looking for something to wear to my nephew's wedding.  I'm going to hit some stores in another week or so.  I'm not a shopper.

 Peace and Hugs!

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold,
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or land,
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand:

Friday Fotos...

I've got a few new photos to share.  Wonder of wonders!!

After work yesterday, I went to lunch with neighbors Bill and Dee.  We went to Saigon Bistro, at Lakeside Village.  An artist was finishing a mural around the corner from the restaurant.  It says BLOOM and is quite beautiful.  The artist is up in the bucket and that's Dee standing there talking with the artist.  There are murals all around Lakeland and it is always fun seeing a new one.

Lakeland Anchor and Barriers is working at my house today.  They are repairing the damage done by critters under my house and will then put a screen behind the bricks all the way around the house so no more critters will get in.  The following photos are a few of the ones they took under there to show me what it looked like.  They will take pictures of the repairs.

This is where something got in the wall, in my bedroom, and woke
me up at 3:00 in the morning!!  Cats, raccoons, possums
squirrels?  Who knows.  No more of that!!

I am treating Shirley to lunch today, for an early birthday celebration.  She will be 88 on September 4th.  We always treat each other to a birthday lunch.  She loves shrimp so we are going to Fish City Grill.  Good fun and good food!  I do have fasting labs first thing this morning.  That means I'll grab some breakfast through a drive-thru on the way to work.

My snowbird neighbors from Wisconsin, Marlene and Duane, are selling their house.  If any of you have been thinking about retiring to Florida, I can highly recommend the neighbor you would have if you lived next door!!  Let me know if you want more information.  It's a two-bedroom, 2 bath, well-maintained home.  It already has the critter screening around it!! Asking $124,900.

Happy weekend!!

Peace and Hugs!

Praise the Lord! His mercy is more!
Stronger than darkness, new every morn,
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more!

Whimsical Fashion Fun...

There isn't a linky and there aren't any rules.
Check out the dress and pick the shoes you like best.
It's all for fun and just a whimsical thing!
Photos are from the Storybook of Dreams and Beauty!

⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞⧞

I saw this dress and had two thoughts... it really is whimsical, and it is like a last gasp of summer before we start seeing fall colors and moving away from the softer colors of summer.  She has her purse but still needs some shoes.  Count down 1-2-3 and tell us which ones you like best.  It's all for fun and just a whimsical thing!

My thoughts:  I do love pink and think it is an okay color for me.  I couldn't wear this dress but how fun to look that good in it and to have a place to wear it!!  I'm choosing #2 today.  I like the other colors to give a secret little pop of color as she walks or dances across the floor.  What are your thoughts?

Peace and Hugs!!

“Fear not, I am with you; O be not dismayed;
For I am your God, and will still give you aid;
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
Upheld by My righteous omnipotent hand.”

The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge of questions!  Join the fun HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 566

From this Side of the Pond

1. What is one cliche you think is nonsense? What's one you think holds truth?

"There's no such thing as a stupid question."  is nonsense because I've heard some pretty stupid questions.  But it also holds truth, especially from little kids who are just trying to learn.  "Don't judge a book by its cover." holds truth.

2. What's the last thing you broke and how did it happen?  A couple of eggs that I had for breakfast.  It was on purpose.  (Sorry, it's been a while since I broke something.)

3. Are you a fan of s'mores?  Sure.  Have you had a s'more this summer?  Nope.  It's been YEARS since I had a s'more.  Last thing you ate that you wanted to ask for 's'more of'It's easier to ask what I don't want s'more of. LOL

4. A mode of transportation you've never tried?  I've done car, truck, bus, train, plane, ski-do, snowmobile, boat, cruise ship, walk, run, bicycle, horse, bicycle cab, horse-drawn buggy...  I'm not sure what's left.  I've yet to do a zipline, a unicycle, or a bike built for two.  Will you someday?  No interest in any of those.

5. Believe it or not, next week's Hodgepodge lands in a brand new month. What's your happiest memory from the month we're bidding adieu?  Lunch/Dinner with friends; survived Debby; good mammogram results; getting work done on the house; planning retirement from part-time work...  all happy things!

6. Insert your own random thought here.   I was talking with one of the HVAC techs who was at the house yesterday, cleaning my AC vents.  He is from Egypt but loves Italy and all things Italian.  I asked if he had been to Mazzaro's Italian Market in St. Pete.  He said 'no' then asked if I had been to Moschella's in Wesley Chapel.  I had to say 'no'.  He gave me the website.  One of my first road trips, after I am done working, will be HERE!!

Peace and Hugs!

Our sins they are many, His mercy is more!

The Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's Tuesday 4!!  You can join in HERE!

Dark Academia...

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.  Toni loved to have people open their minds and think about things .. think into things.  Let's try that this week okay?
A popular trend in home décor and mood background music is called  *Dark Academia and it is based on novels set on old university campuses that have secrets, love affairs, mystery and the scenes and mood these novels evoke.    Velvet sofas, old books, Victorian wallpaper, deep high back chairs, antique photos and paintings,  candles, romantic lighting and classical music are all part of it.

1. Does this picture evoke any feelings in you?  I think it is interesting and begs to be explored!  If so share what they are, please. What is the mood it sets for you?  The first thing I thought of was "It was a dark and stormy night..."  It actually feels a bit more sultry than scary.

2. Put yourself into this scene.  Where are you going?  I've been to the theater and decided to walk back to the hotel, hoping to find a coffee shop open along the way.

3. Do you have a companion or are you going to meet someone? Who is it?  I have my two sisters along who also wanted to walk back to the hotel.  It's a girls' weekend and we are having fun exploring these narrow streets with interesting architecture and fun little shops.

4. Using your imagination describe who and what you find inside the foreground building.  Is it a restaurant, library, academic building, a home?  That building is the tea room/coffee shop we were hoping to find.  They had delicious coffee and some wonderful pastries to try. We took extras back to the hotel and won't have to get up too early for breakfast!

Peace and Hugs!!

All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness,
Lord, unto me!

Monday Again?!

The weekends are flying by... but soon I'll have six Saturdays and one Sunday again.  Soon.

My Friday started with my annual mammogram at 7:15, followed by a bone scan at 8:00.  I got those done and still made it to work by 9:00.  Remember when it used to take two weeks to get test results?  Before dinner time, I knew that my mammogram was clear and my bone scan showed normal for "a female in my age group".  Whatever that means.  LOL  But praise God for the good results!

My boss and his wife hosted dinner at their house on Saturday.  Monika was there too.  We had a Mexican feast and played our favorite marble aggravation board game.  Strawberry cake from Publix for dessert.  Lots of fun and so good.

Yesterday was Sunday school and church. I did laundry, as usual. I usually clean some, but the HVAC folks are coming back this afternoon to clean the vents in the house. They got rained out on Friday and couldn't finish, so I figured that might cause some dust in the air. That was my excuse to skip it, and I'm sticking to it.

This is a crazy busy week. I have something after work every day. It's not all bad, but it's just busy.   HVAC folks today.  The Anchor & Barrier folks for under the house tomorrow.  Lunch with my friend, Bonnie, at Reececliff on Wednesday.  Lunch with neighbors, Dee and Bill, at Saigon Bistro on Thursday, and a happy 88th birthday lunch for Shirley on Friday.

I'm counting down the days to retirement.

Peace and Hugs!!

My worth is not in skill or name,
In win or lose, in pride or shame,
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross.

The Saturday 9...

Thanks to our hostess, Crazy Sam, for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

Sh-boom

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to
answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Sh-Boom (1954)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 70 years ago this month, the Crew Cuts were singing that life could be a dream. When you awaken, can you recall your dreams?  I rarely remember my dreams.  I know that I dream but - poof - they are gone.

2) The lead singer refers to his girl as "darling," "sweetheart" and "baby." Have you used an affectionate endearment lately?  No.  If yes, who were you speaking to?  Perhaps I can count calling my cats sweet names?  LOL

3) Two members of this Canadian quartet are brothers, born 15 months apart. Do you have siblings?  Yes. If yes, how close in age are you?  We are basically three years apart.  I'm oldest, then 3 years later, my brother Randy, then 3 years later, Patti, then 3 years later  (she will tell you they got perfection and stopped), Tammy.

4) A hit in Toronto, the Crew Cuts traveled by car to appear on TV in New York. How are your wheels? Would you give your vehicle a tune up before embarking on a 1,000 mile (500 miles each way) road trip?  I just got new tires, and yes - I always have the car checked before I set out on a road trip.

5) In 54 and 55, they had five Top 10 hits. Then the Crew Cuts fell off the charts. Founding member Rudi Maugeri suspects it's because they were a "teen act" and teenage music tastes can change fast. Who did you listen to when you were in high school?  It was the 1960s!!  Beatles, Stones, Janice, Bread, Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Cher, Blood Sweat & Tears, Temptations, Supremes, CCR, Byrds...  the absolute best music!!  :)

6) A well-maintained crew cut should be trimmed every 2-4 weeks. Is there an appointment with a hairstylist on your calendar?  Every 4-5 weeks for me.  I make the next appointment before I leave the current one.

Let's look at the summer of 1954.

7) 70 years ago, Chicago Bears great Walter Payton was born. Today more than 1200 students are enrolled in Chicago's Walter Payton College Preparatory High School. Was your high school named after anyone?  Nope. Just the town.  Millersport High School (in Walnut Township).

8) J.R.R. Tolkien's Fellowship of the Rings was published. It's the first of three volumes in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Have you read the books and/or seen the movies?  I think I've seen the movies (I know the first one for sure) but didn't read the books.  Sorry.

9) Sports Illustrated was first published. As a special promotion, the premier issue included baseball cards. With the introduction of online communities and trading apps, collecting baseball cards continues to grow in popularity. Are there any card collectors in your life?  Nope.  Not in the past or more current times.

Peace and Hugs!

Friday Photos...

This has been a crazy week. I am trying to get some issues at the house taken care of that I've been putting off. There have been people here to give me some estimates, and they have taken some pictures. They have more pictures than I do!! LOL, but I do have a few to share.

This mama duck has 10 littles and they are
living in a retention pond at my work.
Co-worker, Norman, took this photo with his "good" camera.

This week's message...

This baby frog has been hanging around and was on the door's window yesterday morning.  It was driving Casper crazy.  He kept jumping at the window, trying to get him.  When I left for work, the frog jumped to the side of the house and I got this photo.  There are lots of baby frogs around.  It's wet everywhere.

This is the view of Lake Morton from the drive-thru at my bank.  Not bad!

Projects I'm working with companies to get done... screening around the outside of my house to keep critters out.  You may remember that I had an injured possum crawl under my house and die.  Stunk for three days.  Neighbor Bill says I have stray cats going under my house.  Manufactured homes are on concrete foundation blocks and ours, here in Mas Verde, have decorative bricks to cover the gap.  This picture is of my neighbor's house but you can see their screening through the bricks.  Mine will look like that next Tuesday!

The same company will also repair under the house where some of the plastic and insulation has become loose and is hanging down.  Critters have been playing under there.

Another project is to clean out the 17 HVAC vents in my house. They will make a repair where the HVAC unit comes into the house, clean out all of the vents, and when they finish, blow in a freshening vapor. This is safe for people and pets. Both of the techs who were here have cats (and babies) at home, so they understand about safety.

Those are the big ones.  I also have some other handyman-type projects to think about later.  I reported earlier about the bathroom repair.  Retirement means getting some much-needed work done!!

Peace and Hugs!!

How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!

Whimsical Fashion Fun...

There isn't a linky and there aren't any rules.
Check out the blouse and help the model decide which purse she should carry.
It's all for fun and just a whimsical thing!
Photos are from The Storybook of Dreams and Beauty.

Yep, another glamorous vintage look.  It said she was wearing red shoes and needed to pick a purse.  Count down 1-2-3 and tell us which one you like best.  It's all for fun and just a whimsical thing!

My thoughts:  I'm going to pick purse #2 today.  It strikes my fancy for some reason, and it looks like it might hold more stuff than the other two!  I would wear this blouse, I think, but have never had anything even close in style or pattern.  Hmmm.  Pearls... I call them Donna Reed pearls!!  What are your thoughts??

Peace and Hugs!

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me.

The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge questions!  You can join the fun HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 565

From this Side of the Pond

1. What's the last thing you completely overreacted to?  I didn't overreact in front of anyone but I was put out when the plumber was over an hour late getting here.  I took off work an hour early because he told me he would need extra time, and then he didn't get here until after when I would have normally been home.  Not his fault (like doctors and emergencies) but I was fuming to myself.  He did a great job and I was not unkind to him.

2. Your top five snacks?  Chips, Cheese & Crackers, Macadamia Nuts, Cashews, Ice Cream...

3. What smell always brings back some type of memory?  Chlorine.  Elaborate.  I've written about this before, but chlorine smells take me back to being 9 years old at my town's swimming pool.  I was allowed to go on my own - rode my bike a few miles to get there.  It was my first exposure to being independent.  Chlorine!

4. What's something you learned from the last book you read? I have nothing.  I need to find the joy I used to have for reading.

5. What's the next thing on your to-buy list?  A new refrigerator.  Will you make that purchase before the end of the year?  I need to get it before I go to Ohio for my nephew's wedding at the end of September.  I hug mine when I walk by it daily and ask it to keep working for a few more weeks.  So far, so good, but I keep a towel on the floor to soak up the water that keeps leaking.  (I had a repairman come months ago and he put in a new controller but said he couldn't fix the leak.  The refrigerator is too old to find parts.)

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I got my shower faucet fixed yesterday (plumber story above)!  The new one is solid, not moving around when touched, and looks pretty good!!  I'm so happy!

Peace and Hugs!!

All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness,
Lord, unto me!

The Tuesday 4...

Thanks to our hostess, Annie, for today's questions!  You can join in HERE!

More About You...

Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4..
Let's jump right into the questions for this week...

1. What are you best known for in your family or among friends?  Gosh, I don't know.  My cooking perhaps.  I'm a crazy cat lady but love all animals.  They can count on me.

2. Were you popular in school?  I wasn't part of the homecoming queen set but I had good friends, went to parties, went to the prom, and the teachers liked me.

3. Would you rather take a drive in the country or shop in town on a day off?  Definitely a drive in the country.

4. Are you a member of any societies, clubs, or associations or were you at any time?  Did you enjoy them?  I was in several of those while I was working but am not anymore.  SHRM-Society of Human Resource Managers; Republican Women of Lakeland. RCCW-Resurrection Council of Catholic Woman; DAR- Daughters of the American Revolution; many committees with the museum for work; GWFC- United Women's Club of Lakeland.  I've got a bunch of badges in a drawer somewhere.  I did enjoy them but it's too expensive and/or not relevant for a person who is retired.

Peace and Hugs!

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Weekend Recap and Currently...

I surprised the cats on Saturday.  I got up early to feed them because cats are creatures of habit, but then I went back to bed for another couple of hours.  They weren't sure what to make of me!  It was indulgent and felt great!!  I'm looking forward to those six Saturdays and one Sunday. The cats will need to form some new habits! September 5th is coming!!

I puttered around and did some cleaning but not much else.  On Sunday, Sunday school and church.  When I got home, Princess (the neighbor's dog) came running over.  I opened the door and she ran right in, looking for the cats and her usual treat.  She is a mini-Yorkie and is adorable. I chatted with her mom, Dee, and sent Princess home.

I did my laundry and got some more cleaning done.  I had leftovers from Saturday for my 'lupper'.  I cooked up a batch of cabbage, peppers, onions, and smoked sausage.  It makes enough for two meals and is a one-pan favorite.

Currently...

Outside my window:  A sunny day and not quite as humid as it has been.

I'm enjoying:  Watching The Equalizer with Queen Latifah.  I like her in everything I've seen her in.  It is streaming on Paramont+.

I'm grateful:  for so many blessings in my life.

I'm loving:  counting down the days to my 2nd retirement!

I'm a little sad:  to be leaving my job because of the people, but we are friends and that won't go away.

In the kitchen:  Not sure yet what to make for dinner.

A thought:  I need to take the polish off my toenails.  My podiatrist told me to let my nails breathe for a few weeks after being polished for a few weeks.  Hmmmm...

Giggling at:  Jeff Dunham on YouTube.

That's all I've got on this Monday, August 19th.

Peace and Hugs!

A mighty fortress is our God
A bulwark never failing;

The Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's nine questions!  You can join the fun HERE!

I Get Around

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: I Get Around (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) 60 years ago this month, the Beach Boys were singing that having a cool car helped them get girls. In your teen years, what did you drive?  It wasn't cool!!  I drove the family pickle green Rambler station wagon, standard transmission with three on the column.  We also later had a cute little black Renault, also standard transmission. This is a stock photo, but looks like it.

I didn't have "my own" car until I was divorced at age 28.  That was a medium blue, four-door Ford Escort (standard transmission).  Also not very cool, but it was new and it got me to and from work!

2) They are searching for a new place to party. This weekend, will you be visiting any bars, theaters, or restaurants?  Not planning to visit any of those this weekend.

3) When Brian Wilson was forming the group, he turned to his friend Al Jardine, his brothers Dennis and Carl, and his cousin, Mike Love. Though most of their songs were about cars, beaches, and surf, only one of those founding members was a surfer: Dennis. Do you enjoy the beach? Are you good on a surfboard?  I always have fun at the beach but I don't surf.  These days, skin cancer is a concern so I just stay out of the sun as much as possible.  My beach days are over (so are my bathing suit days!).

4) They were originally from Hawthorne, California. Hawthorne was the early childhood home of Marilyn Monroe. Since Marilyn was one of the most iconic women of the 20th century, we know you recognize her image. Have you seen any of her movies?  Yes.  Some Like It Hot; Seven Year Itch; The Misfits; Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.  Maybe another one or two, but those are the ones that I remember.

5) "I Get Around" is included in Endless Summer, the greatest hits compilation released in 1974. Influential music critic Robert Christgau said Endless Summer should be part of any basic record library. What's one of your favorite CDs?  Gosh, I have over a hundred CDs sitting in a cabinet. I have SiriusXM now but I do carry in the car Sean Detrich's "Porch Music" CD.  I play it a few times a month when I just need to chill a bit.  Music that is good for the soul!!  In The Garden...

Let's look at the summer of 1964.

6) The #1 film of the summer of 1964 was Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. Have you seen it?  Yes!!  Mary Poppins was my favorite "Golden Book" in first grade and I've seen the movie several times.  I've told this story before, but when I was in first grade, Miss Gibson had us draw a picture of our favorite storybook character.  I drew Mary Poppins with her umbrella open and her suitcase... Miss Gibson didn't know who Mary Poppins was and made me stay in at recess and draw Cinderella.  I cried at home that night and mom sent me to school with the Mary Poppins book to show to Miss Gibson.  She didn't care (and may have been embarrassed...).  Anyway, that's my Mary Poppins story.  I've loved her a long, long time before there was a movie.

7) President Lyndon Johnson accepted the Democrat party's nomination at the August 1964 convention in Atlantic City, NJ. Atlantic City is known for casinos and gambling. Do you often play the lottery, bingo, or any other game of chance?  Joe and I played lotto every week until we moved here where it isn't really easy to pick up a ticket.  I don't care for bingo.  I have been to Atlantic City, though, and won $100 playing a dollar slot machine once.

8) Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was still a baby in the summer of 1964. What was in your most recent Amazon delivery?  On Thursday, I got a new phone holder for my car that hooks to the vent.  The one I had that sticks on the windshield got cooked in this heat and I thought I would never get that sticky gunk off the glass.  I'm waiting on some new undies today!!  Yippee!!  LOL

9) Another little one born in '64 is Mariska Hargitay. The star of Law & Order: SVU is the daughter of a well-known movie star. Without looking it up, do you know who her mother was?  Nope.  I'm not even sure who she is since I don't watch either of those shows.  I had to look her up, and recognize her, and see who her mom was.  Wow!

(Jane Mansfield!)

Peace & Hugs!

Have mercy on me, have mercy on me
A broken and contrite heart
You won’t turn away
Have mercy on me, have mercy on me
Because of Your steadfast love

Friday Fotos...

I have a couple of photos to share.  Nothing exciting but here they are...

A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of a "new" lake that
was uncovered by the energy folks working in their easement.
This is another photo.  I can't get closer but it is quite pretty.

And while I was out and about, this picture shows a
shallow-water crossing with new pavement that has been worked on for
a few weeks.  The rocks on the right side of the road are for drainage.
Work can only be done on the roadways when we are closed to the public,
on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  I've watched the
truckloads of stones and bricks go by my office for weeks, so it was
good to see them finished (there are two crossings).

This photo isn't mine, but was shared on Facebook.  I was so excited to
actually see my old hometown listed and to see the canal system
that was part of our neighborhood play area.  We hiked the old
tow-paths and my dad's boat was docked on the canal that emptied into
Buckeye Lake.  I put yellow dots on both ends of Millersport.
The Ohio-Erie canal system was a massive undertaking.
The Ohio River in the south and Lake Erie in the north.

The Ohio and Erie Canal, connecting Lake Erie at Cleveland with the Ohio River at Portsmouth, was constructed by the State of Ohio between 1825-32, to provide cheap transportation and to promote the state's economic development.

The canal was 308 miles long and 4 feet deep, with 146 lift locks. Construction was largely done by Irish and German immigrants using picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows, with oxen to move heavy stones and trees. The first section, between Cleveland and Akron, opened on July 4, 1827, and the entire canal was completed in 1832.

That's all I've got.  Wishing you a lovely Friday
and a happy weekend!!
