The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

Thanks to Joyce for today's questions!  You can become a Hodgepodger right HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 425

1. It's been said the best things in life are free...are they? What are some of those things?  Hugs! A kiss! A hand to hold! A sweet word whispered in an ear! Visiting a friend in the hospital! Compliments offered honestly! A smile! A shoulder to cry on! An ear listening quietly! Just being present when needed!

2. Stars or stripes? Red, white, or blue? Apple pie or homemade ice cream? Do you like hotdogs? If so, what do you like on yours?  Yes, I like hotdogs (prefer all-beef), I like them with mustard, onions, sweet pickle relish, OR kraut OR, chili, AND sometimes with just ketchup.  I even like them sliced and sauteed in scrambled eggs!

3. One thing on your summer bucket list?  No summer bucket list, I'm afraid.  No vacation time with the new job.  Any plans to make it happen soon? I have a winding road trip planned in the back of my mind but it won't happen anytime soon.  Something to look forward to - and I'll be contacting some of you along the way!  Up through Alabama and into Michigan then across Ohio and back down through the Carolinas before getting back to Florida. I'm going to do it one of these days.

4. What's your summer anthem? Yes, you need to have one.  It's 9:00-1:00, but you get the idea!!

5. What's something you love about America? If you live outside of America, tell us something you love about the place you call home.  This kinda says it all...

6. Insert your own random thought here. I am so excited that my community here in Mas Verde is having our first potluck in over a year on Sunday, July 4th!!!  I even bought a new t-shirt to wear!!  I'm sitting with Judy & Tim.  Al & Theresa are going too.  I think it will be well attended.  My new shirt looks grey in the picture but it is really muted blue...

Thanks to Annie for today's questions!  Join in HERE!

That's Entertainment!

Welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4... I am so happy you continue to participate and I know Toni would be as well. I miss our talks. We were very much alike and shared so many of the same interests. Actually, I never met anyone like her before and I miss our talks so very much.

Let's talk about entertainment, okay?

1. Do you have an actor or actress whose movies you hate to miss?  None that I HATE to miss, but I enjoy Sandra Bullock movies.

2. Is there a movie or TV program you could watch over and over again?  Somebody Feed Phil, on Netflix.  I think I am on the 5th time for all four seasons.

3. Do you have a list of books or magazines you are hoping to read over the summer?  No. Would you share it with us?  Bonus: do you make a cuppa something or a snack when you read?   I read in bed, so no snacks.

4.  What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?  Oldies, gospel, country, bluegrass, soul.

From Annie:  I hope you are enjoying these questions and that they help with your blogging content.  If you have ideas or subjects you would like to see on here, let me know in the comments here or on my regular blog.

Monday's Weekend Recap...

Friday, right after work, Cheryl (Helen's niece) and I met with an auctioneer at Helen's house to talk about him buying everything in the house.  We have a contract with Treasure Hunters (as mentioned previously) but the husband had to have open-heart surgery and that pushed our sale into September or later so she offered us the name of an auctioneer who she trusts and has worked with numerous times.  He was very nice and will come this week (on two days) to load up the furniture and dishes, etc.  He offered a sum that was less than we hoped for but was kind of expected.  We are both okay with it and neither of us wants to do a sale on our own.

Friday evening, I met good friends Shirley and Heather for dinner. We enjoyed catching up and Heather told us that come fall, she will be moving to Virginia to be closer to her kids who are settling there.  We are happy for her.  Our little dinner group of six has now dwindled to two, though we do have a few more months with Heather here before she leaves.

Speaking of Heather, she has three cats and volunteers in the cat room at the SPCA.  She offered to come over on Saturday to help me gather Lilly and Vinny into their carriers so I could take them to the Vet for their annual shots and check-ups.  She came and we made quick order of it and got the two cats captured and caged with little or no anxiety.  Hooray!  They got their shots, got their nails trimmed, and were given a good report.  Lucy goes next month for her shots. They didn't want to do them now with her surgery just a few weeks ago.

Sunday School and Church were both good yesterday. I love my church and my fellow worshippers are more and more like family. After services, I went to Helen's house to meet a realtor who will handle the sale of Helen's house for us.  I should hear from him today or tomorrow about numbers.  Once the house is empty, I will hire a cleaning company to go in and clean it.  I told the Realtor that I won't be spending any of Helen's money on upgrades or painting, etc.  Selling as-is and the new owners can do their thing.

Tonight I am meeting a friend from church, Diana, for dinner at Glory Days.

Thanks for your visit today!

Peace & hugs!

Sunday Stealing... Getting to Know You

Thanks to Bev Sykes for today's questions!  You can join in HERE.

 Stolen from Sign Up Genius

   1. Do you like or dislike surprises?  I guess it depends! Why or why not?  I don't like being surprised by a snake or a big bug but when loved ones show up or someone thinks enough of me to have a surprise birthday celebration... that's just fine!!

   2. In the evening, would you rather play a game, visit a relative, watch a movie, or read?  I don't have any relatives close by now but would love to visit a relative. I would watch a movie or read a book before playing a game.

   3. Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why?  Neither one of those really makes me excited but if someone handed me a ticket and paid for the vacation I would choose Alaska over Hawaii.  Alaska just seems like it would be more interesting.

   4. Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job? And why?  Give me that winning lottery ticket, please, and I could help so many folks1

   5. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?  I don't really want to go back in time but if I could keep Joe from getting sick, I sure would and that was just a few months ago.

   6. Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?  My phone, I guess, but I'm not attached to it like many.

   7. How many pairs of shoes do you own?  I counted... an even 24, which is crazy because I only wear two or three pairs most of the time.

   8. What would you do if you won the lottery?  Pay all the bills off, re-do some of the house, help family members who need help, give to my church, and travel!

   9. What form of public transportation do you prefer? (air, boat, train, bus, car, etc.) If you are considering "car" public transportation, then that is my preference. I like driving.

   10. What's your favorite zoo animal?  I haven't been to a zoo in so many years. I guess I have to say the big cats. I would not miss them.

   11. If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?  See #5.

   12. How many pillows do you sleep with?  One.

   13. What's the longest you've gone without sleep (and why)?  It's been a long time since I stayed up really late, but it was more than 24 hours.  I couldn't do it now.

   14. What's the tallest building you've been to the top in?  The Empire State Building, I guess.

   15.  What are your hobbies?  Blogging?  I haven't pursued any other real hobby in a long time.

Peace & hugs!!

The Saturday 9...

You can join the Saturday 9 right HERE!  Thanks to Crazy Sam Winters for the questions!

One Bad Apple

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme.

One Bad Apple (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is a play on the old saying that one bad apple can spoil the bunch, or that the bad behavior of one member can reflect badly on the whole group. Do you think that's true?  I think it CAN be true but that depends on who the bad guy is and who and how strong the good guys are.

2) The Osmonds began as The Osmond Brothers, a barbershop quartet that performed at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Today there are 9 Disney Resorts all around the world, as far away as Shanghai. Have you ever been to a Walt Disney property?  Just Disney World in Orlando.  We live 40 minutes from there and had season passes for several years when the grandkids were little.

3) By the time the Osmonds made this record, Donny had joined the group and became their breakout star. Without looking it up, can you name any of the other four brothers who performed in the video clip? Alan and Jay, I think...

4) In the 1970s, adolescent girls learned through teen magazines that Donny's favorite color is purple, and that he was especially fond of purple socks. Today, socks are a very big business. There are designer sock manufacturers and even a sock of the month club. Is there a wardrobe item you're very particular about?  Not anymore, unless you count a purse. I am particular about my purses.  Oh, and my slacks MUST have pockets.

5) Donny and his younger sister Marie had their own TV variety show. One regular segment had them performing a medley of popular songs, and it began with Marie singing, "I'm a little bit country," followed by Donny's musical reply, "I'm a little bit rock and roll." In this regard, are you more like sister or brother? Probably more like sister, Marie.

6) Donny's popularity continues today. Fans have seen him win Dancing with the Stars (season 9) and come in as a runner-up on the first season of The Masked Singer. Do you watch either of these shows -- or other competition series, like American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent, etc.?  I used to watch DWTS every week and every season but it got old pretty fast.  I did watch American Idol this year and enjoyed it.

7) Donny has also appeared on Broadway. He surprised audiences and got rave reviews as arrogant bad guy Gaston in Disney's Beauty and the BeastTell us about a time when your behavior surprised those who know you well. Gosh, I don't know if my behavior surprises anyone - especially those who know me well.

8) Donny is also a grandfather, many times over! Sam admits she's not crazy about that revelation because it makes her feel old. What's something that makes you feel your years? Ha!  Every day. And I posted this on FB yesterday... kind of says it all!!

9) Random question: We're filling a pinata with your favorite candies. What should we buy?  Heath bars, anything caramel, anything Dove, anything Ghiradelli...

Peace & hugs!

Friday Fotos...

Once again, not much new to show you.  This working puts a cramp in my style! LOL  Not going to the farm (Joe's client) every week leaves a hole too.  BUT... here are just a couple of new things...

-----------------------------

On my drive to work each morning, I pass this mural on the side of an insurance company's building. I love the vintage postcard look and finally got stopped at the red light in a good position to snap the picture!  It is through the car's window, so not a great picture, but you can see it anyway.

Snapped this one of Lucy.  She continues to heal but has been licking her incision.  It still looks okay and doesn't seem to be infected.  She will look 'funny' for another month or so until her fur grows back in, but she is still my sweet Lucy.  Sorry for the glare from the lamp.

I meet the auctioneer today, after work, to talk about selling Helen's household goods.  Cheryl will be there too.  I am having an early supper (lupper) with my friends, Shirley and Heather!! Really looking forward to that!

Peace & hugs!!

Whimsical Fashion Fun 2021...

There isn't a linky and there aren't any rules!
Check out the dress and pick the shoes that go best with the dress!
Have some fun! It's just a whimsical thing!
Photos always from The Storybook of Dreams & Beauty.

I thought this was such a sweet dress.
Count down 1-2-3 for the shoes and tell us which ones
she should wear for her special event.

My Thoughts:  I really like the dress (maybe for me 55 years ago!).  The shoes, not so much but since these are what we were given, I will go with #1 because of the lower heal.  What are your thoughts?

The Wednesday Hodgepodge!

A big thanks to Joyce for today's Hodgepodge! You can join in right HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 424

1. What's something that reminds you of your grandmother?  Well, I had three grandmothers.  Red Mohair/(step)Grandma Cameron; Cheddar Cheese & Fried Chicken/Granny Kelly;  Kool-aid Popsicles/Grandma James.  Tell us why.

Grandma Cameron gave me a red mohair sweater for Christmas when I was in Junior High and I felt SO grown up wearing it! Loved that sweater!  Just like this...

Granny Kelly made the best fried chicken ever and she always had a block of cheddar cheese in the fridge when I visited because she knew I loved it.

Grandma James always had Tupperware popsicles made in the freezer when we visited - but we couldn't have them in the living room where they might melt on the carpet.  Anyone else remember these?

2. Is your life currently more 'moonlight and roses' or a little more 'every rose has its thorn'? Elaborate.  Oh gosh, neither one for me.  Life isn't all moonlight and roses now but it also isn't thorny, either.  Let's do rose petals softening the way...

3. June 23rd is National Pink Day...favorite thing you own in any shade of pink?  I have a pink t-shirt that I like to wear.  A favorite thing found in nature in any shade of pink?  Any kind of pink flower!  Your favorite pink food or beverage?  Pink lemonade.  Your favorite shade of pink?   I love pink, but especially a really soft and muted pink...

4. Last thing that had you 'tickled pink'?  Getting my new job!

5. What are two or three words that describe your style.  Casual and comfortable.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I mentioned it in another blog, but I am really enjoying the HBOMAX series, Treme'.  It is set in New Orleans a few weeks after Katrina (season two is a year later...).  Some tough things, some rough language, but great music, some great musicians, and a good line-up of actors.  I love New Orleans and have been four times.  This show makes me want to go back soon!  Katrina was, what, nearly 16 years ago now.  I was last there six years ago. Have you been?  This is my favorite New Orleans picture...

Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's questions! You can join in right HERE.

Tuesday 4

Questions...

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in honor of Toni Taddeo...

1. Do you have a favorite movie to recommend?  I haven't been watching movies lately.  I am always ready for one of the old Fred Astaire, Donald O'Conner, Gene Kelly movies though! Hard to beat 'em!

2. Do you have a schedule for your day or do you wing it? Now that I am working again, yes I do have a schedule and rarely have a spare afternoon to just wing it. I look forward to those, though!

3. What are you eating/cooking  lately?  Anything that is fast and easy.  I've been spending a lot of time in the frozen food aisles at Publix looking for pre-cooked, fast & easy.

4.  Do you surf on your computer? Tell us about it, won't you?  I don't "surf" much anymore because Amazon.com is my go-to 99% of the time. Don't have to look elsewhere these days.

Monday's Weekend Recap...

This one will be short.  It was a whirlwind weekend for me.

I found out a couple of weeks ago that to get the "death benefit" through social security, an appointment is needed and they only do phone appointments right now, so mine was on Thursday.  The man I spoke with was very nice and asked about 50 questions that didn't seem relevant at all but necessary. Anyway, the $255 should show up in my account in a week or so. Done. That was Thursday.

Friday morning was a coffee and donut get-together at the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission Regional Office and I was invited to go. Got to meet a bunch of folks who work there and with who I have already traded emails with so it was good.  Back at the office, I finished all the training things but one.  It has a 3-hour time limit and includes a test so I will do it today or tomorrow.

Saturday was my cleaning day.  Oh my gosh, was my house dirty! I hadn't done much of anything for a few weeks so the main living areas (kitchen & living room & bathrooms) got torn apart.  I worked for almost five hours and my body felt it. I mopped all the floors and emptied that water three times. Yikes!  I washed throw rugs too.  Feels good to get it done.

Sunday was church.  After church, I went to Haverty's to pick out my new chairs  (go here #6 if you didn't see my post about it).  Melanie was so sweet and I got the decisions made fairly quickly. The chairs I ordered have a smaller footprint and are fabric instead of leather.  I'm happy - but have to wait 10 weeks. TEN WEEKS! So, come fall I should have two new chairs. Sigh. I purchased the insurance again because if the cats shred the fabric, they will fix it!! Worth it. AND... I still didn't use the entire amount of the credit and that money will go into my account within three days. Score again!

I filled my car with gasoline, picked up some groceries at Publix, and got home to do some laundry. That's it.  I have been marathon watching "Treme" on HBOMAX.  It has four seasons and is about New Orleans right after Katrina. Some tough subjects and language but great music.

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves you and me!

Just a reminder to my followers who get my blog by email...  That option is being taken away from us sometime in July.  You will have to remember to use the link  https://tdorsaneo.blogspot.com/  to find me each day or subscribe to a service (free) like Feedly  https://feedly.com/   You can use Feedly for any blog or news service you want to see on a regular basis.  It is how I keep up with all the folks I follow.  It is pretty easy to navigate and customize.

Love Me Some Surveys

Stolen from LoveMeSomeSurveys

1. Ignoring nutrition, could you live off veggies for the rest of your life?  Yes, but I would miss the meat.

3. Can you walk in heels, or do you feel awkward in them?  I could years ago but never again with bad ankles and artificial knees. I always felt awkward in them.

4. Any TV shows you sit down weekly to watch?  LOL... how about daily?!!

5. Will you tell someone if there’s something in their teeth?  Yes.

6. Do you ever actually make your bed?  Yes, every day!!

11. What do you miss the most about your past?  My recent past... I miss Joe, of course!

Saturday 9...

Thanks to Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE.

Papa, Can You Hear Me?

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every

Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Papa, Can You Hear Me? (1984)

This song was chosen in honor of Father's Day. Hear it here.

1) The song begins with a prayer to "God, our Heavenly Father." Do you often pray?  Yes, I do.  Prayer and devotions set the tone for my days and I whisper prayers throughout the day as well.

2) This song is from the movie Yentl. Set in the early 1900s, it tells the story of a Polish girl determined to receive a religious education, even though the custom of the day banned girls from studying the Talmud. What subject do you wish you knew more about?  These days, I am reading lots of information about fish and Florida wildlife!  I am enjoying it!

3) It took Streisand more than 15 years to get Yentl made. Studios initially rejected the project, telling her that audiences no longer want to see musicals. Then, because it centered on Judaism, she was told it was "too ethnic." But Yentl was a success at the box office, becoming one of the most profitable movies of the year -- and since Barbra was producer, director, and star, she enjoyed those profits. Tell us about a time you're glad you stuck with something.  First I will say that Yentl is a very good movie.  I am not a Streisand fan anymore but the movie was really good.  I'm glad I stuck with playing the trumpet and wish I had stuck with piano lessons. I have never been one to stick to things... once I figure it out or figure out how to do something, I tend to lose interest in it.  My mom even told me once that she was surprised when I stuck with the trumpet - 5th grade-12th grade. I did not stick with tap lessons, ballet lessons, modern jazz lessons, baton lessons, piano lessons, organ lessons, clogging lessons.... get the drift here?  I get bored and have to move on.

4) The movie, and this song, were so popular that they earned a parody on The Simpsons. (See it here.)  That video has had more than 250,000 views. Before the Yentl parody, what's the last YouTube video you watched?  I watched a sermon by a pastor recommended by our blogging friend, Barbara.  I enjoyed it so much, I watched the one before and the one after.  Here is a link if you missed it.

5) Barbra Streisand's father died suddenly, the result of complications after an epileptic seizure, just after her first birthday. He held degrees in both English Literature and Education and was a school superintendent. Do you know anyone who made a career in education?  Oh my yes, my cousin Bob and his wife, Patti, my sister Patti, my sister-in-law Jo Anne. My sister Tammy taught for a while and may get back to it. My great-aunt Chloie was a truant officer!

6) Sam's own father wasn't an educator, but he is crazy about the local library. He's there so much the librarians greet him by name. Do you have a library card?  Not anymore.

7) For family barbecues, Sam's dad proudly dons his "Kiss the Chef" apron and mans the Weber. What's the last thing you cooked on the grill?  Nothing. Joe was the grill master. I'm not even sure I know how to start it.  I need to learn!!

8) He takes his grilling very seriously and jealously guards his marinade recipe. Do you have a recipe you're willing to share this morning?  There are many recipes I have shared under my recipe tab above.

9) Sam's father hates it when his daughter swears. What's the latest curse word you used? (It's OK, we don't blush easily.)  I do confess that I occasionally say hell and sh?t.  I try to behave and it rarely happens in company with anyone other than the cats.

Peace & hugs!
Jesus loves me anyway!

Friday Foto Time...

Fridays have been rolling around FAST since I have been working again. Wow!  I will be finishing a week of online training modules at work today and am sure glad to be done with them.  So many policies and procedures to become familiar with.  There have been quizzes after some but thankfully not all of them!   Anyway, I took some photos at work to share today...

This is the building where my office is.

This is the road to and from and I took this picture of the horse trail notice.

This is the welcome center where visitors pay for access to the park and/or the shooting range.

This is the education center. I haven't been inside it yet but hope to get a visit soon.

This is my office and yes, that is actually a Rolodex sitting there.  It is now in the drawer!
The woman who had this office before me retired after 32 years and that spelling gizmo
I posted about last week was in her desk.  They told me she was not too computer savvy.
I don't have her job... just her office. She was full-time.

I had a nice dinner out with Tim and Judy last night. We went to Carrabba's and it was yummy.  I had shrimp, scallops, fettuccini alfredo, and a nice salad.

Peace & hugs!!
