Thankful Thursday Link-up....

Rebecca Jo, over at Knit By God's Hand, hosts a weekly linky called Thankful Thursday!  Join in HERE and be sure to visit Rebecca Jo!!

Today I am thankful for my new community here at Mas Verde.  The women gathered yesterday for a luncheon in support of Camp Braveheart.  At the end of the event, it was announced that we raised $800 for the Hospice kids' camp. Well done!!

This was the line to get lunch.  We had a nice salad and beef stroganoff, and some yummy cakes for dessert.  You can't see me in this photo, but I'm in front of the lady in the red shirt - middle of the picture.  (Photo pulled from our FB group page.)

A few ladies did a sketch that was cute about a dream.
It didn't make a lot of sense but got some laughs!

 A blurry selfie....

That's a cheerleader, a princess, a movie star and a pole-dancer standing behind the grandma who was having the dream.

I am also thankful that we have finished with our Christmas decorating.  Pictures will follow tomorrow, for Friday Foto Friends!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

Wednesday Hodgepodge Time....

A big THANKS to our hostess, Joyce, for giving us this week's hodgepodge of questions to answer. Hop over HERE to join in on this fun link-up!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 331

1.  What's something blogging has taught you about yourself?  I've been blogging for over 10 years now and have never given this a thought.  Perhaps that I can make a commitment and stick to it.  Ten years ago, I sure never thought I would have made real friends here, even meeting some in person. It has been such a beautiful experience and one that I believe will continue to bless my life.

2.  Leftovers...are you in the 'reheat and eat' camp or the 'put them in the fridge until they spoil and then toss them' camp?  If we are talking about Thanksgiving leftovers, they get reheated and eaten.  What's your favorite thing to have leftover?  Turkey, of course!  What can you not abide as a leftover?  Again, if we are talking about Thanksgiving, I can't think of one thing I can't abide as a leftover!  If we are talking about anything....most restaurant food we bring home gets thrown out with the exception of pizza.

3. 'Me time'...your thoughts?  My most consistent 'me time' is every four weeks when I go for my facial.  It's a lovely hour of pampering and visiting with my aesthetician and friend, Dawn. Totally me time.  I know several of you have mentioned you've never had a facial. I highly recommend it.  It relaxes me more than a massage.

4. When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?  I can't answer this generally because it depends on who is asking and I'm not inclined to name names.
I hope that most of the time I see where I can help and offer before having to be asked.

5. If your childhood had a smell what would it be?  My mom's kitchen.  Tell us why.  It was the soul of our home and where the best times took place.  It always smelled amazing. She was such a good cook.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Last Christmas I didn't even feel like putting up a tree.  We did a minimum of decorating and neither one of us was really 'into' the holiday.  This year it is all new!  We have had fun decorating inside and out this year.  My sister and her husband are coming and our friends Al and Theresa and Helen and Cheryl will all be around our table.  I'm already looking forward to baking and cooking another holiday meal!! What a difference a year can make!  Are you excited for Christmas this year?

Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

Tickled Tuesday....

I found this silly cat picture and it made me giggle.  Hope it tickles you too!

We changed our day at the farm to today because I have a luncheon on Wednesday....and we only have one car now.  Joe's client was fine with changing the day this week.  So I am communing with the animals today!

Happy Tuesday! Thanks for your visit. Peace & hugs!

Weekend/Holiday Recap on Monday....

Monday has rolled around again.  I just have to mention that it means something totally different to me now that I am retired!  Monday means a 9:00 a.m. meeting at the clubhouse here, fondly called Ladies Monday Coffee.  What it is, really, is a meeting of the Mas Verde movers and shakers (40+ women attend - it's a nice group).  Calendars are more important to have than a cup of coffee and volunteering is mandatory.  It's all good, though!  These morning coffee women plan and/or organize all of the events that the MV homeowners enjoy.  This week, on Wednesday, there is a luncheon that will raise money for Camp Braveheart.  I am on the clean-up committee.  A worthy cause and no one wanted to help clean-up. Someone has to clean-up so I will be helping do that.  Click HERE for information about Camp Braveheart.

Last week, several women worked to put together a BIG garage sale and raised $1,080 to donate to clean-up and supply efforts in Puerto Rico.  Our women here make things happen and I'm having fun!!  Have I mentioned how much we love it here?!  (grinning)

Now for my holiday/weekend recap....

Our son, Joey, and daughter-in-law, Darlene, arrived on Wednesday with our two grandpups, Brooke and Zoe.  They were just here two weeks ago and we are so blessed to have them close enough to visit more often!  I made grilled cheese sandwiches for our lunch and we ordered in Chinese food for our dinner.  I had been baking most of the day and was happy to not have to worry about dinner.

I had Brooke on my lap for awhile.

Thanksgiving day found me up early to get the turkey roasting by 8:30.  Most of the baking was done so finishing everything else by 1:30ish was pretty easy.  Blessings were counted.  We ate well and were all full, though I sent turkey home with Helen and Cheryl and we all had a turkey sandwich around supper time.  YUM to leftover turkey and desserts!

On Friday, Joey helped us get our Christmas decorations down from the loft in the shed.  I won't let Joe get on a ladder anymore and it hurts my knees too much so we were blessed to have Joey's help.  We stacked them in the den/catch-all room and Vinny made himself a new bed!  Silly cat!

We picked at leftovers all day. More turkey sandwiches and later some stuffing warmed over. Still good!  Al and Theresa popped in later that evening to say hello and meet the kids.

Joey and Darlene left on Saturday morning.  They wanted Sunday to relax before going back to work on Monday.  After they left, Joe and I started decorating outside and shuffling the boxes around inside.  Al and Theresa stopped in again while out for a walk.  They helped us finish the red velvet cake and had a cup of coffee/tea.

Yesterday, I did get the Christmas tree up and decorated.  We aren't quite finished outside and it will take me another day to finish inside but we will get it done!  I'll take more photos to share.  Here is our skinny "pencil" tree. Sorry, it's a little blurry.

So the new week has begun!  Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs!

A Sunday Stealing Monday Morning Meme....

Monday Morning Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. You may have heard the expression, “honor among thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from, if possible. We also provide a link to the victim's questions in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from recently asked questions from a previous post. Cheers to all of us thieves!

We stole this from Phoenix the Blogging Mama , who stole it from Karen, who made up the questions herself.

1. How has your life most benefitted from the Internet? Whether it’s meeting people, cutting business overhead, finding rare collectibles, or simply sharing funny cat pictures, share how the web has made life easier.
I really don't think this question needs much of an explanation.  The internet has made all of those things mentioned so much easier.  Amazon.com has made Christmas shopping SO easy!  I don't go out shopping for much of anything anymore.  It comes right to my door....no crowds, no looking for a parking place, etc.

2. How do you deal with negative comments on your blog?  It has been a long time since I had a negative comment on my blog, so long that I don't really remember when it was or what it was about.

3. There’s never enough time, is there?  No, even when you are retired.  What would you do with an extra three hours today?  I really don't want three extra hours today.

4. The getaway car is waiting outside – where is it taking you?  To Tarpon Springs for the day.  I would like to visit the spice shop and the garden flag store.

5. Who was your "arch enemy" in high school? Do you have any enemies today?  Sorry, I don't think I've ever had an arch enemy and I don't have any today either.  If I do, I sure don't know who they are. I hope not!

6. You’re giving the keynote address to the graduating seniors of a high school today. What’s your advice to them?  Be true to yourself and save money.

7. Thinking of words of wisdom: What's the worst advice you've ever received?  I can't think of a thing.

8. Tell us about the best summer vacation you EVER had.  It was in May (so not quite summer) and Joe and I went to Italy.  If you are talking when I was a kid, it would have been to the fishing camp in Ontario, Canada because that was always our summer vacation.

9. What do you have to have with you when you travel?  My cell phone and Kindle.  Why? Obvious, I think.

10. Would you accept $1,000,000 tax-free, if it meant you had to leave the country and never come back?  Absolutely not. First, the USA is the best place in the world to live and Second...a million dollars wouldn't last long, tax-free or not.

11. Do you believe the world will be a better, or worse, place 100 years from now?  The way things are going now, I doubt we will be here in 100 years.  It will be much worse, I'm afraid, if we haven't had the Second Coming by then.

12. Do you expect to buy a new winter coat this year?  LOL...nope.

13. If you could spend one year in perfect happiness but afterward would remember nothing of the experience, would you do so?  What is 'perfect' happiness?  I'm perfectly happy with my life and am happy to remember each day and year as they pass.

Thanks to Bev Sykes for continuing to post the Sunday Stealing Meme for us!  You can join the link-up HERE!

Happy Sunday to you!  Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

A Man in Black Saturday 9.....

Man In Black

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: The Man in Black (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Black is this week's signature color because Friday, November 24, was "Black Friday," when retailers cut their prices and consumers flock to the stores. Did you score any "Black Friday" bargains? I didn't leave the house. You will never find me out shopping on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.

2) Among the biggest Black Friday advertisers are Target,Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy. If you could have a $100 gift card to any one of those stores, which would you choose? What would you buy? I don't generally shop at any of those stores, but I'm in Target more than the others, so Target I guess.

3) Feasting and football are also popular Thanksgiving weekend pastimes. Do your Thursday-Sunday plans include pigging out or watching a game? Throw in college basketball tournaments and we did it all. Villanova won their tournament, by the way.

4) Thanksgiving weekend is a major time for travel. How far did you venture from home for the holiday? We stayed home and the kids came to us.

5) This week's song, "Man in Black," is about a singer who refuses to wear bright colors. What color are you wearing as you answer these questions? Denim blue and a white t-shirt advertising Mayfaire.

6) Johnny Cash first performed this song at Nashville's Vanderbilt University. When were you last on a college campus? What brought you there? I was last on the campus of Florida Southern College and was there for work. I've been retired since July 31 so it's been awhile.

7) The average American man wears a 10.5 size shoe, the average woman wears a 7.5. Johnny Cash wore a size 13. Are your shoes bigger or smaller than the national average? Ha! Bigger. I wear a women's size 12. My grandpa always told me that you can't build a castle on a foundation only fit for a chicken coop!!

8) He preferred his coffee very strong. To make sure what he was drank was to his liking, he carried a jar of instant coffee with him and would ladle it into his cup in restaurants. What about you? What's your standard coffee order? At home, we use a dark French roast in the Keurig. When I order out I like a dark roast French press. I like my coffee strong and black.

9) While in the air force, Cash wrote short stories under the pseudonym "Johnny Dollar." Make up a pen name for yourself. My dad made up my nickname Tee Lee so I'll go with that.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's questions!! Join the fun HERE!!

Happy Saturday!!  Thanks for your visit today!  Peace & hugs.

Friday Foto Friends Linkup....

Happy day after!!  We have delicious leftovers that will last us at least until tomorrow!  Leftovers are one of the best things about Thanksgiving to my thinking.  Time to share a few photos and linkup with Deb over at Breathing In Grace!!

Our first Thanksgiving dinner in our new home was served at 1:30.  We all dug in and I was told a few times that it was all delicious.  It is my favorite meal to prepare, especially when there are beautiful faces sitting around the table!!

The desserts were plentiful too!

I'll have more photos to share for my weekend recap on Monday's blog.  We are enjoying Joey and Darlene and the grandpups.  I'm looking forward to catching up on your posts and reading about your holiday.

Thanks for checking in!  Peace & hugs.

I wish each of you reading this a lovely day spent with those you love!  If you are traveling, be safe!

Thanksgiving Hodgepodge on Wednesday....

Many thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for giving us this pre-Thanksgiving Hodgepodge!  Take a break from the baking and basting to join in HERE!!

1. Tradition...how tightly do you cling to tradition when it comes to holiday gatherings and celebrations? For instance, do you always do the cooking, never eat at home, always go to grandma's, never miss the parade, always watch football, never change the menu, always eat at 2 PM, etc.? Have you ever celebrated Christmas or Thanksgiving away from hearth, home, and family? How did that feel?

We do not cling to tradition, past having a turkey...a BIG turkey so there will be leftovers.  The menu stays about the same with a few veggie variations.  The time depends on when those joining us can be here.  Yes, we have celebrated both holidays away from home.  For a few years, we would go to a local golf club for their Thanksgiving buffet, which is amazing and delicious, but we like staying home and having family and friends join us instead.

2. Help...is it easy for you to ask for help or are you a do-it-yourselfer? How is that a good/bad thing?

In my kitchen, I prefer to do it myself but I will easily ask for help when needed.  I don't think it is good or bad.  I'm not obsessive about it.

3. Abundance...what is there an abundance of in your kitchen?

Right now I have an abundance of sugar and flour for holiday baking.

4. Name...the smallest thing you're thankful for? the biggest?

One of the smallest things I'm thankful for is my electric roaster.  It holds a big turnkey and roasts it in about four hours.  That leaves my oven free for casseroles and rolls.  I am thankful for my roaster!

The biggest thing I am thankful for...you can't get much bigger than your home. I am SO thankful for our home here in Mas Verde. Blessed!!  (Of course, there are many, many things I am thankful for.)

5. Key...What do you think is the key to living a more grateful life?

Faith in God is the key to everything in my life, including how grateful I am for my life, my family, my friends.....

6. State your own random thought here.

This time of year causes me to reflect on memories of those we have lost from our earthly lives.  Those big family Thanksgiving gatherings full of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents.  Loud and very fun gatherings.  December is bitter-sweet because we lost Mom and Dad both in December.  Dad on December 12th (1989) and Mom on December 30th (1995).  We also lost Joe's mom on December 27th (1999).  But...my heart is filled with love and sweet memories.  The circle of life.

That random thought is just a little depressing, I guess.  It is not meant to be because I am not depressed about it or obsessed with it.  It's just always on my mind this time of year.

The kids and grandpups will be here later today and I'll be baking, baking, baking!!  So excited to have six at our table.  Double that would be fine too, but blessed with six place settings!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours (in case I miss you on the day).  Peace & hugs!!

Tickled Tuesday.....

Happy Tuesday!  Here are some very silly cat jokes as my offering for Tickled Tuesday.....

Why don’t cats play poker in the jungle? Too many cheetahs.
What is a cat’s way of keeping law & order? Claw Enforcement.
Did you hear about the cat who swallowed a ball of wool? She had mittens.
What do you call the cat that was caught by the police? The purrpatrator.
Why is the cat so grouchy? Because he’s in a bad mewd.
What do cats like to eat for breakfast? Mice Krispies.
Where is one place that your cat can sit, but you can’t? Your lap.
Why did the cat run from the tree? Because it was afraid of the bark!
How many cats can you put into an empty box? Only one. After that, the box isn’t empty.
How do cats end a fight? They hiss and make up.
What does a cat like to eat on a hot day? A mice cream cone.
What do you get when you cross a chick with an alley cat? A peeping tom.
If lights run on electricity and cars run on gas, what do cats run on? Their paws.
What do you call a cat that lives in an igloo? An eskimew!

Hope you got a giggle or two!  We have another trip to Publix today and then on to the big day!  Are you ready?  Thanks for your visit today!  Peace & hugs!!

Weekend Recap on Monday....

The weeks and weekends don't go any slower since I've retired.  I think they go faster, actually! And here we are at the beginning of Thanksgiving week!!

Friday I emptied out our bank for change so I could roll the the coins.  The bank was nearly full.  Joe and I both drop our change in it.  Joe does every day and I do when my coin purse gets too full.

We had a whopping $76 dollars and a little extra to put back in the bank for seed money!
Took it to the bank and got paper money for some extra cash to spend on Saturday.

Friday I also had lunch with my lunch bunch girlfriends.  Melody couldn't come and Cindee was not feeling well so we only had Terry, Shirley and me at first, then Heather joined us after she went by to check on Cindee.  It was fun catching up with everyone but sad that two of our group were not feeling well.

It was such a pretty day!!   We sat outside for lunch.  Look at that sky!

Saturday we had a road trip planned with Al and Theresa to visit Renninger's Antique Market in Mt. Dora.  We picked them up at 9:30.  Unknown to us, there was a special extravaganza event going on.  The line to just get into the parking lot was long and after spending nearly 40 minutes driving around to find a parking spot (through deep sand and narrow thru-ways) we gave up.  We decided that even if we found a place to park closer than two miles from the building, the crowds inside would be so ridiculous that we would not have enjoyed it anyway.

We left there are decided to visit the Lakeridge Winery again.  Al and Theresa had never been there so we were happy to rescue the day and take them there.  We also went to The Crooked Spoon for lunch and they enjoyed it too!

We took a selfie before the tasting began.

Joe and I took a selfie outside.  Not good at selfies!!  LOL

A view of the beautiful Florida sky through the grape arbor.

Sunday was laundry day again...back to Sunday laundry days, at least for a couple of weeks.  We enjoyed not doing much of anything.  I did make my menu list for Thanksgiving and from that made note of a few things we still need from the grocery.  We moved our dining room table around to allow us to put the leaf in and bring another chair out (keep them in the guest rooms). I'm getting excited about the holiday and the cooking and the love around the table!!  Joey and Darlene are due on Wednesday, with Darlene's mom, Cecelia.  Helen and Cheryl will also join us.  The puppies will be here too.

You may have seen this on Facebook, but our grandniece Nikki gave birth to our first great-grandniece, Maya Naomi.  They were released from the hospital on Sunday and Nikki posted this photo....

So that was our weekend!  Today we are running a few errands, including getting that shopping list taken care of.  How was your weekend?  Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs.

Thanksgiving Thoughts Sunday Stealing....

Thanks to Bev Sykes for finding this meme to steal for us this Sunday!  Join the fun HERE.

With Thanksgiving coming up this week, I thought it might be fun to find a set of Thanksgiving-related questions.  This came from a site called Documented Legacy

1.  What made you feel patriotic this year?  Most recently, flying the flag on Veterans Day.

2 . What do you value most about your life?  My integrity.

3.  What do you appreciate about your friendships?  That they are true.

4.  Name one person who can make you laugh, even months later. Why?  Joe can always make me laugh because he can say some of the funniest things at the most inappropriate times.

5.  What is the funniest thing you remember about a Thanksgiving past?  I can't think of anything really funny about any past Thanksgiving. Sorry.  Joe has a good story from when the boys were little though.  They were in Indian Guides and one year Joe came to the table with a full Indian headdress on.  I understand it made everyone laugh.

6.  Do you have any unusual traditions, rituals or habits around Thanksgiving?  Not anymore, but my dad was a hunter and he always hoped for just a dusting of snow on Thanksgiving morning, which was also the first day of rabbit season. He could track the rabbits if there was some snow on the ground.  He and my brother always went hunting while dinner was being prepared.

7.  Name one ancestor that you think about on Thanksgiving and tell us why.  I can't say that I think of any ancestor.  I always think of my folks and my brother though, who are no longer with us.

8.  Is there a family heirloom at the Thanksgiving table?  No. What is its story?

9.  What is your favorite
part about Thanksgiving Day?  The food, of course, and sharing it with people we love!

10. What random act of kindness did you perform or that was done to you this year that makes you feel grateful?  We traditionally deliver a meal or two for VISTE (Volunteers in service to the elderly) for Thanksgiving. That always makes me feel blessed and grateful.

11. What do you appreciate about the change of seasons?  That the humidity goes away and the temperatures cool considerably.

12. Name five things that make you happy about today.  I am retired; we have a beautiful home; we have wonderful friends; that love lives here; and that we can feel the peace and love our Lord!!

13. How has the celebration of Thanksgiving today changed from when you were little?  We no longer have the big family gatherings with cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents...there used to be 30 of us together for Thanksgivings.

14. If you could share Thanksgiving dinner today with one person in history who would it be?   Other than my folks and brother, I might enjoy getting to know my Revolutionary War soldier/ancestor.  He was John Mahaffey and I have evidence that he was a spy!  Why?  Because he was a SPY!!  (Note: it can be a relative)

15. What is one wish you have for the next generation as they begin to establish their own Thanksgiving traditions.
Love the history, love the turkey, and love the 'excuse' for the family to gather and be thankful!

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?  I bought our Butterball at Harvey's on Friday. It is in the refrigerator thawing.   Thanks for your visit!!  Peace & hugs.

Saturday 9: Son of a Preacher Man....

Son of a Preacher Man

Welcome to Saturday: 9.

Saturday 9: Son of a Preacher Man (1968)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song was originally offered to Aretha Franklin, who turned it down. What's the most recent thing that you said "no" to?  I said "no" to signing up for a cruise offered by Mas Verde.  Joe and I went on one cruise and decided it is not for us. We have many friends who love to cruise.  Count us out.

2) Two years later, Aretha recorded "Son of a Preacher Man." What's something you changed your mind about?   It won't be about cruising!!  I really can't think of anything I've changed my mind about recently.

3) This song tells the tale of Billy Ray, a young man who could be very persuasive. If we wanted to change your mind about something, would you be more easily swayed by an emotional argument, or with verifiable facts?  It really would depend on what it is but I would probably go with verifiable facts.

4) If you ordered a "Son of a Preacher Man" in a bar, you'd get a cocktail made with peppermint schnapps, gin, and lemonade. When did you last have lemonade?  It has been about six months.  I had a lemonade at Mayfaire last May.  Was it just lemonade, or was it spiked with alcohol?  It was just lemonade.

5) Dusty had a thing for maps. She admired them artistically and enjoyed using them to take long car trips. Do you use printed maps? Or do you rely on technology, like GPS or Google Maps?  I like having the paper maps in the car and always get them from AAA before a long trip, but these days we really do rely on Google Maps/Waze to get us to our destinations.

6) As a girl, she attended a convent school. There, one of the nuns discouraged Dusty from performing, telling her that if she would do better to be a mother or a librarian. When you were growing up, did the adults in your world encourage your dreams?  I was blessed with very supportive parents and they didn't push any of us to do anything we didn't want to do.  We chose and they encouraged us.  We knew while in high school that they would pay for one year of college, business school, or a technical school. After a year, we had to figure out how to do the rest.  That made us more responsible I think.

7) That nun inspired Dusty's first major act of rebellion. In an attempt to make herself look less like a future librarian or housewife, she bleached her hair platinum blonde. In school, were you much of a rebel? Or did you conform to the expectations adults had of you?  I was (am) the typical first-born.  I was not a rebel, I followed the rules and tried to always do what was expected of me.

8) Early in her career, Dusty provided the entertainment at a family summer camp. She appeared on the bill with a clown, a fire-eater, and a hypnotist. Have you ever been hypnotized?  No, I have not.  I have thought about it from time-to-time (for weight loss) but I've not done it.

9) Random question: Have you ever played matchmaker to your friends? If yes, did your efforts lead to romance?  It has been years since I fixed my cousin Tom up with my different girlfriends. Nothing came from those fix-ups. I had my brother go out with my friend, Lois, once and they didn't hit it off either. All of those were over 40 years ago.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks to Sam Winters for this week's Saturday 9!!  Thanks for your visit today!!  Peace  &  hugs.
