Digimon Xros Wars Super Digica Taisen
"Digimon Cross Wars The Great Super Digica Battle") is the third Digimon card game. From the 5th Set onwards, it was renewed to Digimon Xros Wars Super Digica Taisen General Strikers Shoutmon and Dondokomon act as the navigators of the arcade version. The game worked in tandem with the Digimon X Arena and the Digimon Xros Loader. The service terminated with the 7th Set.
Overview[edit]
At the start of the game, the player is given the option to play solo, play against two other players, or purchase cards. If the player chooses to only purchase cards, the game ends immediately afterward. Next, the player selects a General (Commander), who serves as the player's alter ego. The D-Skills available to soldier Digimon vary depending on the selected General. Afterward, the stage is chosen; enemy strength differs by stage, and each stage clearly displays its difficulty level. Victory is achieved by defeating the enemy, advancing by increasing the control rate, and ultimately annihilating opposing forces.
Most controls are handled by rotating the drum-shaped Digimon device, Dondokomon, located at the center of the monitor. The device has additional functions as well, such as pressing the central button to confirm actions or timing button presses during attacks to increase the damage dealt to enemies.
Starting with Version 3, DigiMemory cards were introduced. When scanned, these cards activate special effects associated with legendary Digimon.
Ver. 1~4[edit]
Three Digimon positions—Hidari (Left), Mannaka (Center), and Migi (Right)—are deployed on the field. At this point, card scanning is available. If the player does not have enough cards, Digimon displayed on the ticker, such as Shoutmon or Agumon, can be deployed instead. Each turn, the player selects one Digimon to engage the enemy forces, initiating combat.
Battles are resolved using a rock–paper–scissors system, where Digimon attack or receive damage based on the outcome. Each move corresponds to a different combat stance:
- Goo: Counterattack or interception stance.
- Choki: Standard attack or assault stance.
- Par: Quick attack or fierce attack stance.
Ver. 5~7[edit]
At the beginning of each turn, the player selects a General Command, which increases attack power, defense, or hit rate. The amount of the increase depends on the General's specific abilities. If a DigiMemory card has been scanned, its corresponding command will appear and can be activated by selecting it.
Next, the player selects Digimon commands. In earlier versions, only one Digimon could be commanded to attack per turn; however, starting from Version 5, the system was changed so that commands are issued to all Digimon simultaneously in a single turn. The available commands are limited to those granted by the General Command or the Digimon's attributes. If a Digimon shares the same attribute as the selected General Command, only that attribute can be chosen, making the player's move easier for the opponent to predict. However, winning the resulting rock–paper–scissors battle can trigger a Critical Hit Command Chance, which seals the opponent's counterattack and provides a decisive advantage.
Terminology[edit]
DigiXros can only be performed between compatible Digimon. Valid DigiXros combinations are listed on the back of Digimon cards that support this feature. Successfully performing a DigiXros greatly increases the gauge.
- DigiSoul Gauge 「
The DigiSoul Gauge fills when the Digimon takes damage or is attacked. Once the gauge is fully charged, a special move command is added to the command selection screen; if chosen, this special move takes priority over the opponent's actions. When activating special moves, additional power can be accumulated by rotating Dondokomon, triggering DigiBlast. If Dondokomon's power is fully charged, a powerful special move called DigiStorm is unleashed, which attacks all enemy Digimon. Even if both DigiBlast and DigiStorm are activated by the same Digimon, the encounter is treated as an Aiko Battle.
- Aiko Battle 「
An Aiko Battle occurs when both Digimon select the same move. In this case, command selection is repeated. If another tie occurs, the battle enters a final Aiko state, in which the Digimon force with the higher status gauge launches the attack. From Version 5 onward, once an Aiko occurs, the Aiko Battle begins immediately without repeating the command selection
- D-Skill 「D
A Digimon's special ability that activates a unique effect during battle. There are six D-Skill types: Fire, Light, Wind, Water, Earth, and Darkness.
- Interception Damage 「
When a special move is used, it can inflict damage on additional enemy Digimon forces beyond the primary target. From Version 5 onward, this damage is applied to the total HP, which represents the combined HP of all allied Digimon, regardless of normal attack targeting.
- Combo 「
A Combo is triggered when multiple Digimon with the same rock–paper–scissors attribute are present. When activated, additional damage is added to the attack.
- D-Link 「D
D-Link is activated when a specific General is selected and scanned, increasing that General's abilities.
