Profile[edit]
Astora (also spelled Astra) is a popular Apptuber, and is found by the other Appli Drivers through one of his videos. Astora gets along with them well, after a rocky start with Eri, due to both having a slightly brash personalities, they come to an understanding and become close friends. Astora has a cheerful and jovial personality and is always full of energy. He's the youngest of the Appli Driver group, which sometimes makes him a bit childish, but he never loses heart in difficult situations and knows how to cheer others up. Astora is shown to be very popular in school, with all his classmates loving his App Tube videos.
His buddy Appmon is Musimon. The two are incredibly synchronized most of the time and form a truly close-knit duo. When Gatchmon first suggests he Appliarise Musimon, the buddies agree to do it immediately (instead of hesitating like Haru and Eri).
Astora's family has been iemoto (masters) of a Japanese tea ceremony house for countless generations, and Astora, as the last descendant of the lineage, was trained to be the heir. His parents are patient, and try not to put too much pressure on Astora about this, encouraging him to make his own choices about his life. Even though Astora is a very energetic person, even hyperactive at times, when at home in his family's formal setting, he is much more composed. He has learned traditional Japanese arts and is very skilled in calligraphy. Astora has long struggled with his sense of responsibility to his family and his dreams, until he finds a way to reconcile the two.
Astora enjoys posting videos of his "exploits" on AppTube, where he is very popular. He has a catchphrase he often repeats: "Do I feel it? Don't I? I totally do!", alternatively "Will I? Won’t I? Of course I will!" (ノレる? ノレない? 超ノレる! Noreru? Nore nai? Chō noreru!).

Etymology[edit]
The name Torajirou is composed of the kanji for "tiger" (虎 tora) and "next son" (次郎 jirō). Possibly a reference to his cat-like face and the colors of his clothes. The surname Asuka means "flying bird". Possibly after the Asuka period of Japan, and a likely reference to his family being very traditional. His nickname "Astora" comes from a combination of the first two kana letters of his surname and name, "Asu" (あす) and "Tora" (とら), as well as a likely reference to Astra (アストラ Asutora), a software used for video broadcasting.

Anime[edit]
Digimon Universe Appli Monsters[edit]
Astora appears for the first time in episode seven of the Appli Monsters series.
Astora was born in 2005, the son of Asuka Ryūtarou, the manager of a teahouse, and Jenny, an Englishwoman. The family lives in Kodaira, a city in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and in 2016, Astora attended Takanodai Elementary School (grade 5-2). One day, he watched a funny video on AppTube and began to dream of becoming an AppTuber, even though he feared his father's disapproval. While he was still lost in thought, a drone dropped a box containing an Appli Drive and Musimon's chip from the sky. Musimon played with it all day. Towards sunset, however, Astora said goodbye to Musimon, feeling obliged to carry on his family's traditions and give up his dreams. Musimon begged him not to abandon him and to listen to the music of his heart, eventually managing to convince him. Astora receives his father's permission to use AppTube and begins posting funny videos under the pseudonym "Astra".
On November 5th, Haru and Gatchmon come to visit him after spotting his Appli Drive in a video. When Watchmon disrupts the clocks, Musimon materializes for the first time and defeats him, purifying him of the L-Virus. Two weeks later, Haru introduces Astra and Eri, with whom he initially disagrees due to their oversized egos. In December, Rei steals Ropuremon and Gomimon's chips from Haru. The kids try to follow his trail through the Net Ocean, but instead end up being ambushed by Sakusimon. Rei and Hackmon unexpectedly rush to help them, forcing Sakusimon to make a strategic retreat. Astra and the others discover that Hajime, Rei's younger brother, has been kidnapped by Leviathan. After Sakusimon's defeat, Rei returns the Chips, but then goes on his own.
On January 14th, Astra and Eri battle Tellermon, who is infected by the Virus. Astra nearly falls from a roof in the AR-Field, but Eri grabs his hand and saves him. A few days later, Astra, Musimon, and the others accompany Haru to his grandfather Denemon's old laboratory and meet Timemon, who shows them the story of Leviathan and Minerva, the creator of the Appli Drives.
On February 18th, Ryūtarou falls ill due to stress. Although he recovers quickly, Astra is worried and confused, unsure if he wants to spend two years in a Zen temple in Kyoto training to become the heir to the tea house, as his father wants. Dreammon puts him to the test, and Astra finally manages to overcome his anxieties. Thanks to Dreammon, Mediamon is able to evolve into Entermon and defeat Medicmon, who had infected the health advice app used by Ryūtarou. Astra then explains to his father his decision not to move to Kyoto.
