Sweater Weather #6

A Not So Fictional Fall

Rate this book
I live for happily ever afters.
And I'm finally meeting my favorite romance author in person!

Only, all this time, I thought author, Amelie De Pierre, was a woman.

It turns out, Pierre Toussaint is the man behind the books that make me weak in the knees.
He could be the consummate book boyfriend with his dreamy hazel eyes, strong jawline, and those black-rimmed glasses. Not to mention that accent. Oh, that French accent. When Pierre speaks, I feel like I’m curled in his arms on a riverbank being fed chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Not Pierre’s arms, of course. We barely just met. And I’m just me. And he’s Pierre, internationally renowned romance author.

Seeing Pierre in person has me stammering and blushing—two things I don’t usually do.

Imagine my surprise when I receive a call a few weeks after meeting Pierre—from his agent—proposing marriage. Not that I’d marry his agent.

They want me to marry Pierre.

A Not So Fictional Fall is such a sweet romance. I enjoyed the marriage of convenience aspect of the story and I loved how it took place in the book world. I liked the family dynamic and though the romance was sweet, it felt like it moved kind of fast and I never truly felt that connection between the couple. Aside from that it was a solid read.

Savannah always said it would take a very specific/special type of story to be told for her to tackle the marriage of convenience trope. And it finally happened!

This was one of the sweetest, most wholesome, lovely, modern marriage of convenience stories I’ve read. It had chemistry don’t get me wrong! But we got characters becoming great friends and laying a great foundation before focusing on the physical. Their connection was très magnifique!

Tasha was such a SWEET TENDER HEARTED character and I just loved getting to see her flourish!

Pierre was just a gem! A true gentleman with a tender soul! And I loved seeing him get the love he deserved!

I LOVED their relationships with their families. Both separately and then with each other.

I was living for ALL the bookish things saturating this story! AND AH LOVED BEING ON MARABELLA ISLAND FOR A BIT! That was a fun little adventure.

This book, in typical Savannah Scott fashion, had me swooning, laughing, sighing, giggling, and just over all having a grand old time! It gave ALL the fall vibes I could’ve asked for!
(And I’ll be swooning over that epilogue for days to come!)

Tasha is ecstatic to go to an event to meet her favorite author, Amelie De Pierre, who turns out to be a man. Said man is sexy and French and without proper documentation to continue his US tour. The solution is a whirlwind romance and marriage of convenience.
The bones of this book are good. I love a bookish couple and a marriage of convenience in a modern setting is like catnip. It just wasn’t for me. In order to avoid spoilers, I won’t list why, but I wanted more depth and backstory for believability and a deeper connection between the MCs.
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

Edited to add:
I decided that I have to explain my rating more thoroughly because I think it's a disservice to not acknowledge why it didn't work for me. Basically this needed a copy editor to push plot and edit down the redundancy/unnecessary explanations. I read across multiple genres and steam levels, so I think another perspective is completely appropriate.
I am in no way trying to beat this book up but just having read it and then seeing so many rave reviews makes me want to explain why my review looks sour in comparison.

Now into why it didn't work for me. As mentioned above, the bones are good. Give me the feels of one of my favorite romcom films, The Proposal, and I'm a sucker. But the potential consequences to committing fraud to get someone a green card is never properly addressed. There is no incentive for Tasha to agree to this charade besides helping her favorite author and getting 250K. How could that not be a source of contention to a couple? How can that consequence not be on page? I have a friend who married a non-US resident and it is no picnic with the government.
Which brings me to insta-love. It's very tell me not show me. They don't go through any angst or turmoil. There is little backstory to bring these characters to a deep foundation of a romance. I want more than winks and French words peppering interactions to believe they're in love. Had their relationship been rooted in friendship or as colleagues, it would have made more sense than literal strangers.
The miscommunication with a language barrier also didn't make sense. Tasha supposedly had been doing an app to get her some brownie points to impress Amelie. I don't speak French, but context clues would tell me that when someone is talking about coffee, they are talking about cream, not a crime. English is part French/part German/part Anglo-Saxon. And Pierre's American readership is pretty strong for someone who needs to be told repeatedly what Americanisms mean.
There were times things were explained as if one is talking to a child. For example, in this day and age there is literally no possible way that an author would not know what a hashtag is. It came across to me like this book was meant to make an influencer (bookstagrammer in particular) feel "seen".
Lastly, this is a sweet romance (not at all a complaint! I love sweet romances too, but I think it needs clarification) - it is not fade to black. I saw another reader make that comment and I think that would deter some readers who prefer sweet only and also set an expectation that will not be realized by those who prefer a little more steam.

Reread via audio and holy swoon! Duet narration and a French accent for Pierre. It’s SO GOOD!

This is an amazingly sweet and swoony modern marriage of convenience with a dash of hidden identity between a famous French romance author and a bookstagramming personal assistant!

Things I Loved:
-Heather and Nate
-Bookstabesties!
-Rene
-“And then he speaks. Oh, sweet baguette with a chunk of gourmet cheese, this man is French.”
-That meet cute! 😂
-Très coquette 😆
-Groupie in the green dress
-“I may have been attracted to him at first—okay, I am still very attracted to him. But I’m keeping my cool. Now. I’m cool now. Forget earlier. That was awful.”
-Cher
-Wet chicken
-Pleasant
-Butt dial
-Stuart. Oh, Stuart.
-“Look at you, getting all French for your man.”
-“Why do you question my love of the love seat?”
-That kiss 🔥
-“Oh, sweet baskets of lavender from Provence.”
-Rules (and Rene again 😂)
-The Wedding
-Bert McStuffins
-PA shirt 👌🏻
-Sleep talking
-Make noise 🤣🤣🤣
-Breaking rules 😍
-Airport
-Dating ♥️
-Epilogue

There was so much sweetness, some major laugh-out-loud moments, amazing tension, and the best HEA. I’m not always sure about a modern MOC but this one hits it out of the park in the lovely town of Harvest Hollow. The Sweater Weather series does not disappoint, once again! And it is so much fun finding the little Easter eggs from the other books. Do not miss out!

DID NOT WORK FOR ME.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

Something rubbed me wrong about a lot of this and I could never get myself to connect with the characters or the story. I didn’t like how heavily this felt like the author was leaning into stereotypes rather than a natural inclusion. The forced nature kept pulling me out of the story.

They’re some cute moments and the modern marriage of convenience worked well enough (though I still do have some questions). I liked the main characters and found it a fast paced read. I was looking for something more in the end and too much was missing. There’s still the great fall setting and some good family moments too at least.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses

Update— I read this adorable story last year, and recently listened to the audiobook. I was reminded why this modern-day marriage of convenience was so good!

“When did this ambush on my heart take place? I have not been guarding myself well enough. Now I am a man who feels so much. A man who would do anything Tasha wants me to do. A man who cannot stop thinking of her.”

This modern-day marriage of convenience story ambushed my heart, and I am not upset about it. Having read all of this author’s previous works, I knew this was going to be good, but it exceeded my expectations and I genuinely loved everything about it.

Tasha is thrilled to attend an author event where she’s going to meet her favorite romance author, Amelie De Pierre. She gets a big surprise to learn that is a pen name for the very handsome, charming, and manly Pierre Toussaint.

Because of a mistake with his visa, Pierre is in need of an American wife if he’s going to be able to stay in the country and complete his North American book tour.

After a suggestion by his agent, he and Tasha agreed to a temporary marriage of convenience. Watching the relationship go from fake to very real was an absolute delight!

What I loved:
Marriage of convenience
French MC
Bookstagrammer FC
Dual POV
French phrases and cultural references
Rene
The wedding
Pierre talking in his sleep
Beautiful fall vibes
“My heart is hers”
HEA

A Not So Fictional Fall is a perfect romance for the fall season, and one I highly recommend. C'était magnifique!

Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy!

This book was so charming! The perfect cute and cozy fall read!

I loved both MC's. Their personalities were pleasant and endearing. I think their dynamic was perfect! Tasha is a book lover and meets her favorite female romance author who happens to be the man Pierre. Their first interaction was funny and loved that they became fast friends.

I love a good marriage of connivence and this was done nicely! I really like the setting of the blue ridge mountains, it really set the setting.

*****Update***** I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook that just released and I absolutely LOVED it!!! This book is one of my favorites and the audiobook just added another fun layer to the love I have for it! The narrators were so fun and brought these two characters to life. Seriously Happy Sigh to the extreme!!! If you think I'm gushing, you'd be spot on because I am!!! There are just books that make you so incredibly happy and this is one of those books for me!!! It's a go-to-read-again!!! Grab it, or the audiobook and be ready to be grinning from ear to ear. These characters are just the bee's knees!!!
I received a copy of the audiobook from the publisher, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op, via NetGalley. But I've purchased my own copies.
*****Everything below in the review is still 100% relevant and still my thoughts after listening to the audiobook!!! *****

This book!!! Definitely a reread for me! I loved it so much! So many great characters. I want the author to write stories for all of them! Rene, Heather, Bob, Stuart, the Bookstagrammers, the sisters! ALLLLLLLL OF THEM please Miss Scott! You would make many fans very, very happy! Just sayin'!!! ;-)

Tasha and Pierre were fabulous on their own but put them together and magic happened! Holy Cow!!!! I loved them so much! The mix ups that happened, the long talks, the proposals, the wedding, the family, the honeymoon morning (remember this is a marriage of convenience so no shenanigans), the friendships, the laughs, the longing glances, the lingering touches, the swooniness!!!! Seriously, alllll of it was so much fun! Savannah Scott nailed writing a marriage of convenience trope!

And can I just mention all of the funny American and French slang used throughout this book?! Tasha saying something and confusing Pierre and needing to explain it. And vice versa for Pierre needing to explain his slang or incorrect use of American slang. Wet Chicken anyone? Hahahaha!!!

I've recommended this book to so many of my IRL friends and can't wait for them to dive into it so we can talk and laugh about it! I love the joy that comes from reading books with friends and being able to discuss them! Just like Tasha and her Bookstagram friends!

Oh, stop reading my review and go grab a copy of this perfect Sweater Weather book and read it!!! Don't forget the sweater, comfy blanket, hot cocoa and sitting outside or next to a window watching the fall leaves!

Content: There are some mild innuendos, some sweet kisses but nothing further. This is a book about marriage of convenience so there is a scene where the couple is forced into the same bed for a short moment, but it was kept very mild. I would consider this a clean read but would suggest for older readers.

I received a copy from the publisher, Victory Editing NetGalley co-op, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I love, love, love Savannah Scotts rom-coms! Every single one I have read has been a hit and A Not so Fictional Fall from The Sweater Weather series is no exception. I haven't ever read a modern marriage of convenience story before and I really enjoyed this unique and fun premise. Not to mention a French main male character! This book was super sweet and swoony!

Pierre is a romance author who writes under a female pen name. Tasha is a bookstagramer excited to be going to an event to meet her favorite author. She is surprised to discover that “she” is really a “he,” the same very handsome he she saw in the hotel lobby earlier that day.
After she ends up saving Pierre from an aggressive fan following him around the hotel the two start to grow a friendship. Pierre is certainly not looking for love. As a matter of fact he has basically rejected love from his life, but when circumstances cause him to need an American wife Tasha seems to be just the right person for the job.

I loved watching Tasha and Pierre navigate their marriage of convenience. Savannah is such a fun and clever writer and this one was done so well. I laughed out loud and smiled so many times. And of course I swooned at all the super romantic scenes. We got treated to some great ones too! I loved the dual point of view so we could get in the heads of both Tasha and Pierre. I enjoyed the rules that were set up for them as part of the marriage, but the breaking of the rules was even better! The HEA was super amazing and such a joy to read! So perfect for Tasha and Pierre. You know it's good when you leave the book with a big smile but also some sadness because it's over.

Favorite moments -

Pierre and Tashas meet cute
Pierre’s reaction to American slang phrases - cheesy, you're not the boss of me, and the butt dial!
All the Bookstagram love - The friends meeting up in person and when Tasha says, “We aren’t strangers we connect everyday!”
Summer, Ben, and Cameron cameos!
Sleep talking
Rene!
Dating, Pierre’s proposal and the entire epilogue

Content awareness - Innuendo between a married couple

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"The news will leak and people will question if it could be true. Could the greatest romance nocels in the world truly be written by a man?"
...
'By a Frenchman, oui. Yes, of course.'

Enter Pierre lol!

I am such a huge fan of Savannah's writing and could not wait to get this book in my hands. I love the premise of a mistaken/hidden identity and contemporary marriage of convenience! Marriage of convenience is not seen a lot in contemporary writings but when it's done right it's one of my favorites!

Savannah does it right!

I loved all of the French culture, the bookish elements and a small town that rivals Stars Hollow!

The pacing of this book kept me glued to my kindle. It's witty and romantic and adorable!

Okay, lets start talking about the side characters...Rene and Heather. I need so much more from those characters. Read this book and I dare you to think otherwise. They both have a story...I know it's there!!!

Read this one for the fall vibes, small town charm and adorable characters!

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Content: French vibes, bookish, marriage of convenience, kisses and innuendo between a married couple and a fade to black scene between a married couple.

Pierre, oh Pierre. He's such a sugary-sweet MMC. I loved seeing a different type of quiet hero. Normally a quiet introvert MMC means he's a grump (which, I adore grumpy MMCs, so no problem there LOL), but Pierre is NOT a grump. He simply likes simplicity, peace, and quiet and has embraced the single life. Until he meets Tasha, of course.

Tasha is adorable and her sweet nature is the perfect addition to Pierre's quiet life. And again, Harvest Hollow is such a fun town. I loved seeing snippets from the other stories in the series.

All the little French phrases were such a fun addition! And of course, I loved all the bookish and author talk. Every book lover will connect with it!

*Updated review for audio book version*
I read A Not So Fictional Fall this summer and absolutely fell in love with Pierre and Tasha! So, when I had the opportunity to listen to an early copy of the brand new, duet narrated audio book, I was very excited to get to “re-read” through listening!

The narrators did a superb job of bringing all of the characters to life. I loved this story even more, if that’s possible, while listening to it. The voices are so nicely done and I highly recommend it if you enjoy audio books.

This author does a wonderful job of creating characters that feel like real people to me. I loved getting a peek into Tasha and Pierre’s lives as they navigated a modern day marriage of convenience.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, however, I own the print and ebook versions.
***
I love Savannah Scott novels and I am having so much fun reading her backlist of books. These are clean and sweet romcoms full of friends, family, and characters who communicate with each other.

I loved the way Pierre and Tasha met! It was a bit of an awkward meet cute for them, but was so perfect, too. These two connected more as friends first, even as Tasha was awed at first by the fact that Pierre was really the author of her very favorite books…books that were under the pen name of Amelie De Pierre!

Their entrance into a fake marriage, a marriage of convenience, made sense for the setting. I liked that they entered it as friends and that they truly cared for each other as they made the decision to go forward with the plan.

The way their attraction and love grew for each other was super swoony, as were their kisses! Savannah Scott knows how to bring the romance while also keeping that romance limited to kisses. The desire for more was there, but handled in wonderful ways.

I loved the morning after the wedding day, with Tasha and Pierre and his sisters! Oh boy, I was laughing out loud. No spoilers, but it was such a fun and funny moment! I loved this book from start to finish and loved that there was also a bonus epilogue available.

This is such a cute book! First of all I love the fact that Tasha is a bookstagrammer, since that’s what I do, I could connect a lot with the character. She also is audiobook reader and author personal assistant. Pierre is romance author Amelia de Pierre, posing as female author, and now has revealed his true identity. It’s definitely a meet cute with these two. When Pierre needs a wife to stay in the USA, did I mention he is French, his people propose (literally) to Tasha. It’s a modern marriage of convenience. I loved how Pierre misunderstands some of the American lingo and makes for some hilarious moments. I loved how they make rules but then break them. I loved their relationship. I felt like them staying in a treehouse together before being married was unnecessary but nothing inappropriate happens. Overall I liked this story and thought it was cute!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

Content: share a treehouse before marriage(nothing inappropriate happens), they make noise that implies “marital relations” on wedding night(just making the noise not the doing)

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This was a refreshingly (is that a word?) sweet and swoony marriage of convenience story. The characters were very likable and relatable.

Tasha is a bookstagrammer and author support person who loves books by Amelie de Pierre. She flies across the country to meet her favorite author only to find out she’s a he with a feminine pen name. She also meets four of her online book besties.

Pierre is a French romance author who is immediately Attracted to Tasha. He’s very attractive and put together. I loved his endearing way of reverting to French and then when his thoughts were too revealing, refusing to translate them for Tasha.

There were lots of laugh out loud moments, including a memorable meet cute. I really enjoyed the interactions between Tasha and Pierre. Neither one wanting to acknowledge how real their feelings were.

This was a very fun and heart warming book. I highly recommend.

Thank you @savannahscott_author and @victoryeditingngc for the eARC

This was the 6th book in the sweater weather series and the first book I have read by Savannah Scott (also my first ARC!)

I enjoyed this book so much, it was the perfect warm and cozy love story for fall. Marriage of convenience is not typically one of my favorites but in this story I thought it was so well done!

Things I loved:
🍂The MMC was French and I loved the comedy that came from the language barrier and things getting lost in translation
🍂On that note Pierre speaking sweet nothings to Tasha in French was…(chefs kiss)
🍂The shoutouts to bookstagrammers and Tasha’s “booksta besties” was so sweet
🍂I loved how Tasha and Pierre instantly felt a comfortability with each other that was hard for them to find with other people
🍂Rene was so funny, I loved his “rules” and all of the adorable scenes that came as a result of them
🍂I also loved Tasha’s relationship with her sister, the bond they had really came through in the story
🍂The epilogue was my favorite part, it was such a sweet ending for Tasha & Pierre

I highly recommend this book for a sweet HEA read with cozy fall vibes. It is available on Kindle Unlimited as well as for purchase everywhere you can buy books.

I can't even with this Sweater Weather series! This book sang to my heart and whispered sweet little nothings to my soul and I couldn't get enough.

Right off the bat, Tasha connected with me. Hello! She's a bookstagrammer, an avid reader, and she adores everything about the autumn season. But best of all? She totally fan-girls over her favorite author and what happens when she goes to meet her virtual book friends and said author had me laughing, swooning, and lapping up every droplet of French charm that I could get my eyes on.

Pierre is every reader's dream...and more. He oozes magnetic appeal and I was crushing as hard as Tasha.

"Those dimples are a crime. They are definitely making me want to do illegal things right now."

Savannah Scott delivers a believable, modern-day, marriage-of-convenience and I was shocked at how invested I was. The honeymoon scene had me laughing soooo hard. Besides the undeniable attraction and connection between Pierre and Tasha, I think Rene almost stole the show. He is an extremely hilarious, yet supportive, best friend.

From start to finish, this book was everything I dreamed it would be. Yay for crossover characters and for a brilliantly engaging and delightful plot.

Content: mild romance (kissing, swoon, light innuendo)

I thought this book was ok…if that. I’m really sad bc I love the other books in the Sweater Weather series, this one just wasn’t it…😩 I think the author tried so hard to incorporate the ‘Frenchman’ aspect that she made it cringey. Plus, I now think that I don’t like the marriage of convenience trope lol. Their relationship was like 9 weeks in total? They went from just friends, then his friend said something, and suddenly he’s in love?? Idk….I feel like it was too far fetched to include Harvest Hollow. It really limited the story unfortunately. Obviously they needed to include Harvest Hollow, but I just didn’t like it. I didn’t like how he kept talking about Rene stealing Tasha…if he’s your best friend, he will not try to steal her. If not, maybe worry about it lol. Like, let it go!!! And like I said, the marriage of convenience just wasn’t done right I don’t think. I just felt like since it was illegal and everything it was just icky😂 Anywayyyy, I probably wouldn’t recommend this book. Plus, it took me forever to get through, which is annoying! Lol

A Not so Fictional Fall by Savannah Scott is my second Sweater Weather book. I am a sucker for author meets reader trope and this one is absolutely perfect. Tasha is adorable and so funny! The thoughts that run through her head killed me. I highlighted so many phrases of hers. There were so many enjoyable moments. The Rules of Rene’s was so funny and the reactions of Pierre and Tasha were perfect. I adored Pierre’s sisters. And Bob and Stuart grew on me. I loved Heather and I really think Rene needs his own book! This is a great marriage of convenience story with plenty of lovely kisses and romantic tension between the couple. The whole book was awesome. I really loved the ending and the events that lead to it.

I know I said that Faking the Fall by Julie Christianson was my favorite in the Sweater Weather series, and it still is. But A Not So Fictional Fall by Savannah Scott is totally tied for first place! I loved everything about this book. The premise is fantastic. I love the idea of a romance-loving reader falling for an author of romances. I appreciate that the hero (the author of said romances) and the heroine (the romance novel connoisseur) had a clear connection and some mighty BIG chemistry brewing before the whole marriage of convenience thing. This made it easy for me to buy into their marriage. I don’t usually like modern-day marriage of convenience stories because they tend not to be realistic or relatable, but Savannah Scott did this trope right. I really enjoyed watching Tasha and Pierre’s relationship grow and change from initial sparks of interest, to real friendship, to love. There were some good laughs along the way, too, and some seriously swoony, passion-filled kisses. WOWZERS, the kisses were good! My favorite thing about this story, though, was watching Pierre wake up to life and love. He had put his heart into hibernation-mode, but meeting Tasha wakes him up big time. It was fun seeing Tasha weave her way into his heart. And I really loved his protective streak. I love when a guy is protective over his girl. Pierre is the best! Everything about this story is the best!

A Not So Fictional Fall is a charming and endearing read I won’t soon forget. If you are a fan of sweet romances filled with excellently crafted characters then this is definitely the book for you!

I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on October 4, 2023, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

As far as fall romance books go, this one was adorable. I will say there is zero spice in this one, but it did not detract from the romance in the book. The trope in this one was a bit different from fake dating, as it was fake marriage. (I hadn't ever read one of those before.) When I read that that was a premise in the book, I was wondering what on earth could lead to such a thing, but it all made sense once it was laid out. The story surrounding this was actually pretty unique and well done. The characters were relatable, and you really wanted their relationship to work out for real in the end, because you could feel what they felt for each other. I enjoyed all of the seasonal elements, as they made for such a good read for this time of year. I would definitely recommend this to other readers looking for a fun, romantic, fall read.

Savannah Scott's last couple of books are all about that sloooowwww burn, and...sigh. J'adore (see? Those 4 years of high school French TOTALLY just paid off!).

That's pretty much it. Right now, I feel all starry-eyed and like I can't put any more words together. I'm in love with this book and these characters.

And there DEFINITELY needs to be other books based on the characters of Rene and Heather. Not necessarily together, but...hmmmmm.

Fun, sweet and so swoony! At the beginning of the story I was a bit skeptical. I don’t like the deception. But keeping that it is fiction, I let some of the unbelievable threads slide. Although they really do hit it off from the beginning and their relationship has a sweet chemistry that felt organic. The plot is well paced. I thought it was a little unusual for a romance author to be a guy. I know there are some in real life but it seems to go against the grain seeing as how most readers and writers of this genre are women. Pierre not only is a romance author but he’s French. He has a very close friendship with a guy named Rene. Rene is cocky and obnoxious but loves Pierre like a brother. Tasha is down to earth and a great character. She really makes this book! The fall backdrop comes to life throughout the chapters. If you enjoy sweet love stories be sure to pick this one up!

So, my major issue with this book is that the MMC...okay, it's twofold. He's so aware of how women write men that it becomes so extra clear that he is written by a woman, which can go both ways--I guess--but it went thumbs down for me. And the second was that, and I could be wrong, but it was so excruciatingly clear that what was being written was not being written by a french person, like it was clearly an american author cosplaying as a french person and again--that could go two ways and a lot of people clearly enjoy it, but it seriously was nails on a chalkboard for me. It was...I dunno. it almost felt like it belonged in a kids in the hall sketch at times, and...it wasn't supposed to be satirical comedy?

Clearly tons of people enjoy this book but it was not for me--this whole series was really hit or miss for me, in the end.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Tasha & Pierre’s points of view

– in an attempt to disguise the fact someone slept on a pullout couch (by putting it away), both characters had to make loud noises suggesting they are doing something else (the morning after their wedding) to be able to get the couch back in the right position

Review:

This was so much fun! I loved how much French we got and the close friendships/relationships both Tasha and Pierre had. I adored it when Pierre allowed himself to feel something beyond the contract and to pursue Tasha for real. I loved that Tasha had fallen for Pierre quickly and was willing to play up their relationship in the moments that required it (and even when it wasn’t required). I loved Pierre’s family so much and that his friend Rene had such a large part in their story! (Especially with Rene teasing Pierre & testing Pierre’s true feelings for Tasha.) I loved Tasha’s sister and that she got to be in on how it was a farce, but also that Tasha had real feelings for Pierre. One of my absolute favorite moments of this story was when Tasha & Pierre had to stage photos with a photographer and they found themselves getting lost in it.

Summary:

Tasha is an avid bookstagrammer, author’s assistant, and voice actor for audiobooks who has the chance to meet her all-time favorite author and some of her bookstagram friends at an author event. Tasha always expected her favorite author, Amelie De Pierre, to be a woman. But when she rushes in late to the Amelie De Pierre book signing, she finds a man by the name of Pierre signing the books instead and comes to discover that he is actually the author of her favorite books. Despite the unexpected identity of her favorite author, Tasha finds that she doesn’t mind it. In fact, Pierre is not only the picture perfect look of her image of a book boyfriend, but he’s also fun to talk to. They connect over the course of the author event and leave it amicably to return home…only to reconnect once more by way of Pierre’s agent. With Pierre’s tour extending to more author events and an unexpected hitch to it, Pierre’s agent suggests that Tasha enter into a marriage of convenience with the French author after how well their connection was caught by cameras across the resort’s patrons. In exchange for her diverting her life, Tasha would be paid handsomely for her time.

Pierre likes his privacy as a famous romance author, which was easy when he used a pen name and no one knew the true identity behind Amelie De Pierre. But that’s all about to change now that he’s agreed with his agent to use his recent jump in success to stage a book signing tour and out his identity to everyone. The only thing that manages to make Pierre relax on his first stop is a charming fan of his books. Tasha doesn’t act like he’s anyone special and he appreciates the sense of normalcy she brings him. So when she offers for him to join her and her friends on a few outings, Pierre finds himself agreeing to accompany them. Even after he returns home, Pierre find himself thinking of Tasha and how she was able to ease his discomfort. He didn’t think they’d truly cross paths once again, let alone so soon, but his agent has other ideas when an issue pops up. Now Pierre has to wait for Tasha to decide if she’s willing to pretend to be his wife on paper or not. And he isn’t sure which he hopes for her to choose…

Savannah Scott’s ‘A Not so Fictional Fall’ has effortlessly stolen my heart and its place as my favorite book of the year! It’s a warm and inviting read, made for sweater weather. You’ll wish that you had a cup of hot apple cider by a crackling fireplace while indulging in the delicious slow-burn romance.

Diving into my first-ever ‘marriage of convenience’ read was more than i hoped! The story artfully weaves together moments of delightful awkwardness, palpable tension, and a simmering slow burn that had me glued to its pages, until I finished it in one-sitting.

As for the main characters, Tasha and Pierre, they are an absolute delight. Both characters are wonderful, rational, and kind making it easy for readers to connect with them. Pierre’s French origins added an extra layer of charm to the narrative, with endearing French pet names and phrases sprinkled throughout. Savannah’s portrayal of these characters is so flawless that I’d literally trust her with my life!

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for granting me the privilege of reading this book in advance.
