  • “The ultimate goal was to build AI and understand the mind, then use it to understand science. Step one, solve intelligence. Step two, solve everything else.” — Demis Hassabis, who was just named WSJ Magazine’s 2026 Technology Innovator in a new The Wall Street Journal feature about his lifelong quest to solve the world’s mysteries with artificial intelligence. You can learn a lot about the people racing to build the world’s most powerful technology by asking what keeps them up at night. In the case of Demis Hassabis, it’s not just the complexities of AI. He’s wide awake when he should be asleep because the middle of the night also happens to be his favorite time to work. In the small hours of the morning, his brain is loose, the world is silent, and he can read, think deeply and really focus on the problems he’s spent a lifetime trying to solve. Ever since he was a boy, WSJ. Magazine’s 2026 Technology Innovator Hassabis dreamed of building a form of artificial intelligence that would be smart enough to crack the mysteries of the universe. When he started the research lab that became Google DeepMind, he turned his life’s obsession into the mission of his company. AI can already write code and rewrite emails and summarize meetings and prove abstract math conjectures and figure out why your washing machine keeps making that strange beeping noise. But in Hassabis’s mind, the whole point of intelligence is to do something with it. What he wants to do with it is make the kind of discoveries that actually change our lives. Twinkle began her career configuring routers in India. Today, she enables global edge capacity planning and strategy as a Global Technical Program Manager. In her role, she looks months and years ahead to ensure our infrastructure has the room, power, and capacity to scale. As she puts it, "I help make sure the internet has enough room to grow." That job has become more challenging as AI changes what infrastructure needs to do and how quickly it needs to scale. “A plan that made sense just a few months ago can quickly look outdated today,” Twinkle says. “There is a kind of moonshot thinking in this work… building the next size up before most people even notice they will need it.” Explore opportunities to help build Google Global Infrastructure → https://goo.gle/46yYsVD

  • Across Europe, thousands of individuals and businesses large and small are using Google tools to grow their businesses and transform their communities. Take Renault Group, which is reinventing French automotive production with AI. In Renault Group's factories, Google AI is helping prevent breakdowns and detect manufacturing defects in real time, cutting factory downtime and production defects in half. Or Polish biotech company Ryvu Therapeutics, which is using Google Cloud to transform the pace of oncology drug discovery, enabling a 2x speedup in simulation times and reduction in false positive drug structures by 50%. And it isn't just advanced and highly resourced enterprises who are benefiting. Entrepreneur Danilly Carvalho used Gemini to scale her skincare brand IPERA from County Clare, Ireland to global markets. Danilly used Google tools to completely rebrand her business and prepare for international expansion, helping her to ideate and develop a new brand name and logo, generate website prototypes, compliant labels, and analyze regional consumer trends. Within a year, online sales had increased by 45% and her local Irish business had expanded to seven countries. 👉 Watch Danilly Carvalho's inspiring story below 👇 and read the full EU Economic Impact Report to learn more about how Google contributed more than €200+ billion to the EU GDP in 2025 https://lnkd.in/exQRwT_6.
