Titan comics - GI Joe - the rise of Cobra

I've looked before at the various titles produced by Titan Comics. They're typically short-lived and tied in to some pop culture event / film like Indiana Jones, The X Files, Tomb Raider and plenty others. Find all previous blog posts about them here

Today it's a shout-out for the GI Joe - the rise of Cobra comic series from 2009. Just the 6 issues.

As far as I can tell these are the issue dates...
Issue 1 was dated 13th August 2009 - 9th September 2009
Issue 2 was dated 10th September 2009 - 7th October 2009
Issue 3 was dated 8th October - 4th November 2009
Issue 4 was dated 5th November - 2nd December 2009
Issue 5 was dated 3rd December 2009 - 6th January 2010
Issue 6 was dated 7th January 2010 - 3rd February 2010

Lion club

Just a shout-out for ace ebay seller philcomics - a finder of ace comics stuff, well worth a follow. Here's an interesting item from a recent sale (for £20) it's related to the Lion club.

I've looked at Lion comic plenty of times in the past (here) but never with a focus on Lion club.

I know that for the Hulton titles (Eagle, Girl, Robin & Swift) there was plenty of ephemera produced by their respective clubs but I'm not sure what else Lion club collectors could look out for. The loop on the bottom of the badge makes me that, like Eagle club, there was 'room' on the badge for something to indicate that if you were a member of the club for 2, 3 or 4 years there you'd get something to attach to your original badge. They were stars on Eagle club badges (see below).

Comic flyers & adverts

Just a shout-out for ace ebay seller philcomics - a finder of ace comics stuff, well worth a follow. Here's a few examples of some of the adverts / flyers that they had up for sale recently. If this is the sort of stuff you love then keep an eye on their ebay site for upcoming auctions.

UPDATED: The Political Cartoon Society

I've looked before at publications associated with the Political Cartoon Society (here). My posts about their newsletters can be found...
part 1 is here
part 2 is here
part 3 is here
part 4 is here
part 5 is here

And now some more books published by the PCS have been found...

and I've just realised that (prolific author of books about politics) Tim Benson wrote a book called Strube - the world's most popular cartoonist - that was badged as being from The Political Society...

If you know of other titles that were badged as being from The Political Society then do let me know, thanks!

Strips 78 - award nominees & more

I've looked previously (here) at things to do with the Strips 78 comic convention.

I recently spotted this ephemera related to the convention being sold on ebay by acesales1966 (well worth saving as a favourite seller). The detail of the award nominees was well worth saving for posterity I felt.

Spellbound comic club

Just another shout-out for just about my favourite seller on ebay - yes, it's that finder of comic rarities, phil-comics

Make sure you follow them and then you won't miss out on rarities like this...as Phil says...

Spellbound Comic Club Fabric Wallet, Papers, Pendant, Fabric Badges 1976 Rare

We've neither sold nor seen this item before and it seems to be a real rarity. Spellbound ran for just 69 issues from Sep 1976 to Jan 1978 but had a club within that time.

The fabric wallet measures 5.5 x 3.25 inches and is like new. The membership card inside is tucked in the plastic sleeve but with no writing. There's a fabric Supercat pendant badge (diameter 2 inches). A plastic badge with a 2.25 inch diameter. An introductory letter is folded in half and half again and a larger fold out sheet is also present - this has a couple of light corner creases - folded into thirds (as issued) and then in half.

A lovely set which we assume is complete, but can't be totally sure that an element isn't missing as we've not seen one before.

boom! sold for £105
