Bunny vs Monkey - the early collections

Before Bunny Vs Monkey books became quite as ubiquitous as they are today they existed in a 'slimmer' format collection. Happy collecting!

These are the volumes I have in my collection: 1, 2, 4, 5 & 7.
I'm missing volumes 3 & 6 - so I hope I've nabbed the correct images off the internet!

According to this useful page there were only 7 volumes in this 'old format' series. The books were subsequently re-published in a smaller format but with 12 months worth of strips in (rather than the 6 months worth you get in these volumes) and that was enough to set BvM on the way to world domination!

Unique Dandy comic up for sale this week

There's a fascinating copy of The Dandy up for sale here, previously owned by artist Duncan Scott, who died in 2021- as the seller explains...

Published by DC Thomson October 30th 2010.

This comic is number 26 of only 37 that were created specifically for the artists and staff working on The Dandy relaunch comic. The back cover was originally left blank for signatures etc.

This copy was given to DC Thomson artist Duncan Scott. Later on before his death he agreed on my request to draw The Bash Street Kids, Colin the Vet and The Neds.

...the auction runs until Tuesday lunchtime - good luck if you bid!

Ka-Boom - the art of creating comics (part 3)

Currently running at the Story Museum in Oxford is "Ka-Boom - the art of creating comics" - details here. There's plenty of original art featured in the exhibition.

I showed an initial selection here
A second selection here here

And here's some more...
Hot-Shot Hamish art from a 1980 issue of Tiger

17th August 1996 Dennis the Menace cover for the Beano by David Sutherland

more Dennis the Menace art from the Beano - dated 17th August 1996 - art by David Sutherland

2000AD covers by John Higgins

Billy's Boots artwork - on the caption this is credite to John Gillatt - but it looks much more like the work of Tom Kerr to me. Intriguingly there's a (c)2001 on it - where was Billy's Boots being printed / originated in 2001??

and some Jamie Smart art to finish off

Bunny vs. Monkey

The insane battles between a bunny, a monkey and all sorts of other woodland cuties (albeit often armed to the teeth with ridiculous, eye-popping end of the world weaponry) continues in Jamie Smart's Bunny vs. Monkey book 4, which is now out.

All previous volumes are available at the Phoenix comic webshop here where you can buy volumes 1-3 for £25 (here) - Bunny vs Monkey, it 's the most bonkers fun you can have in comics right now.

Doctor Who - part 1

To celebrate the launch of the new series of Doctor Who this evening I thought I'd see what Who type stuff I've acquired over the years...right, I've had a look and the answer's not much...enough for one 'new' Who post today and a 'classic' Who post tomorrow.

First up then is Where's the doctor? a Where's Wally type of book but with the added bonus that the pictures are all by ace cartoonist Jamie Smart (whose work I mainly know from the DFC and the Phoenix comic but he's done loads of stuff (http://www.fumboo.com/))

Who are we looking for
How hard can it be to find them? Oh, I see...
