Ka-Boom - the art of creating comics (part 3)

Currently running at the Story Museum in Oxford is "Ka-Boom - the art of creating comics" - details here. There's plenty of original art featured in the exhibition.

I showed an initial selection here
A second selection here here

And here's some more...
Hot-Shot Hamish art from a 1980 issue of Tiger

17th August 1996 Dennis the Menace cover for the Beano by David Sutherland

more Dennis the Menace art from the Beano - dated 17th August 1996 - art by David Sutherland

2000AD covers by John Higgins

Billy's Boots artwork - on the caption this is credite to John Gillatt - but it looks much more like the work of Tom Kerr to me. Intriguingly there's a (c)2001 on it - where was Billy's Boots being printed / originated in 2001??

and some Jamie Smart art to finish off

Roy of the Rovers monthly - part 3 (of 5)

I've looked before at The best of Roy of the Rovers monthly...

Part 1 is here; part 2 is here; part 3 is here; part 4 is here and part 5 is here

...and I always knew that there was a follow-up series entitled Roy of the Rovers monthly. I've recently acquired a partial run of this reprint comic series so I thought I'd document, as much as possible, which characters are in which issues so that you can track down issues of particular interest.

Part 1 of my look at Roy of the Rovers monthly is here; part 2 is here
Without further ado then...

The best of Roy of the Rovers monthly - part 5

The final selection of the best of Roy of the Rovers monthly (sob!)

Issue 21 - 100% Mighty Mouse action! 100! Julio Schiaffino art! No Roy!

Issue 22 - for once there's a whole lot of Roy in this issue, as well as a bit more The safest hands in soccer

Issue 23 - the second best Marks brothers in history and a weird cover - the attacker in the red shirt is a midget compared to the goal and the keeper is so far behind the goal line that I've no idea why he's bothered diving at all

Issue 24 - Nipper and the safest hands in soccer are up this month...

Issue 25 - John Gillatt provides the cover and all that's best about this issue; there's also Roy and Tommy's troubles

Issue 26 - Total Hot Shot Hamish and nothing else - the usual madness ensues...

Issue 27 - the final issue of the run, plenty of Nipper (including some of him playing cricket in the way that footballers do in the summer) and a smidgen of Roy

The best of Roy of the Rovers monthly - part 3

Issue 11 -  mainly Nipper but a bit of Roy as well - all wrapped in a cover with that iconic Melchester kit

Issue 12 - a whole heap of Billy's Boots here plus a bit of Roy to round out the issue

Issue 13 - a whole heap of Hot-Shot Hamish (yes!) in this particular issue, featuring a typically dynamic cover by Julio Schiaffino

Issue 14 - Roy's front and centre in issue 14, but in fact almost the entire issue is given over to The safest hands in soccer

Issue 15 - The Marks brothers (sadly not as entertaining as the Marx brothers) and a bit of Roy Race's schooldays
