I think the most important question is: why does anyone comply with what one incurious, self-centered, and self-important man, Linus Torvalds, says?
Why is that most important? Because Linux does not belong to Linus Torvalds. It belongs to the world. Torvalds only gets to dictate if the people who are best-positioned to take that power from him fail to do so. From where I sit (as an outsider), he should have been removed from the project, or at least have his dictatorial power removed, long ago, and the primary problem is that there is no structure or will to actually do that.
Under these conditions Linux is a hierarchical, and therefore right-wing, project. The project allows a single man to dictate the future evolution of a global good. Let's drop the illusion that it is "free" or "open" till that changes.

This time I had no choice
It occurred close to people that I love with all my Atma.
As with any vehicle crash, one party didn't pay attention, the other party had way too high a speed, to counteract the stupidity of one party.
The small vehicle flipped on its side and rolled over. The mini bus het so much Kinetic and Potential energy that it continued on slamming into a tour bus, shaking up the individuals who were dancing inside.
I am grateful that everybody was at least wearing their seatbelts. I am not grateful that none of the vehicles had working airbags, which means that the vetting of the vehicles, for safety, left a lot to be desired.

Been off here for a week since my Dad died last Saturday.
He was 83. His diagnoses of Alzheimer's was confirmed just after his death, so what with that and his frailty, his death was somewhat of a release.
Mum died over three years ago which makes me an 'orphan'. Not sure how I feel about that - ask me again later in the year.
Still, I'm ready to face the Mastodon world once more - and it's lovely just to see the great array of tooting from you wonderful people.
