Pulp? You have to have at least 1 cult!

Elheim figures. I might get another set of the foot soldiers, probably not quite enough here.

Left plain and definitely wargames standard.

I painted the cult leader as a fishman ( or whatever - at the moment sticking with the name given in the ship's log rather than Mythos...)

Three riflemen - more useful than tommy guns to me!

Still working out their storyline - got three ideas so far! And do I wait until I've got more of the figures?

I wasn't going to buy these yet...

It's just that, when I looked over the Elheim website after I bought the last Elheim lot I realised that some of their figures weren't Elheim, were being discontinued, and they didn't have many left. So I sent my next Elheim order in early...

This is the Force 20 lot I wanted to quickish. For 1/72nd they seemed very small.

Also got a load of other actual Elheim figures.

This is the important picture. It shows that the '1/72nd' Force 20 figures fit in well with the '1/76th' scale Langley seamen. Which is what I want really.

1/72nd Elheim figures

More figures for my 'smaller' Pulp games. The figures are  from Elheim and are 1/72nd, not 1/76th, so can be expected to be bigger that Langley figures. This is generally true but some of the Elheim figures show a bit of variation in size so overall they mix well.

These are PO6, professor, nurse, scientist and patient. I think the scientist is supposed to be holding a hypodermic syringe or something.

This lot are from DS01, Force 20 historical Port of Call figures.

Looking further into it turns out they aren't Elheim figures, but made by a US company called Force 20...

Elheim seem to have been making them under licence but the range is being discontinued!

More Force 20 figures - more are on order before they become hard to obtain in the UK.

Force 20 are owned by Covert Intervention Games in the US.  However, they are also advertised by TheHobbyDen so I assume can be ordered from there as well.

Assorted Fishmen

To be honest, I consider these to be amongst my worst paint jobs.  However, it seems only fair to include them in the blog as they're playing their part in the Mythos. Besides, they look OK at a distance!

I've got enough walking and swimming fishmen for most scenarios.

Still got a few more to paint up. Don't know why I've painted the bases on the walking fishmen blue rather than green or grey.

Hawker Hurricane

I've never bothered much with air support in my WW2 battles in the past but seem to have been acquiring a number of  aircraft recently starting with the balsa pulp planes. So it seems reasonable to make a conscious effort to look out for cheapish planes and build up my air forces... so when a couple of nice looking Hurricanes came up, seemed reasonable to put a bid in.

Not bad for £7 including postage.

Built with undercarriage down - I can live with that!

Ki-46 Dinah

Following all those Japanese aircraft models Tim Gow showcased on his Megablitz site. I succumbed to temptation and sought out a Dinah on EBay. The Dinah was always one of my favourite aircraft back in my early youth when I did make Airfix aircraft as well as tanks - my memory of my own model, painted in a white scheme, is still quite vivid...

That is a stunning colour scheme!

The red props are my contribution and certainly not Chapter Approved.

But then the colour scheme is meant to be 'hemp' rather than white and I haven't bothered with the yellow transfers on the leading edge of the wings either.

Test post 2 - the Germans

My WW2 forces are best described as chaotic. Some are survivals from the 60s, they then run a complete gamut up to  now. Scales, 1/76th, 1/72nd, 1/300th, 15mm, 20mm, 28mm...

So, perhaps concentrating on 1/76th to 28mm late war Germans. Not all in good condition or finished.

As I think I said - chaotic.

I would again say yes, the 'smaller' tanks fit in OK as do the bigger ones. I also think it was a good choice to just use a single storey for the buildings, perhaps two stories would be a bit overpowering.

I did get carried away putting everything out.

This little lot must represent at least four different manufacturers over a thirty year period - at least they are all nominally the same scale.

Ones from the past - a converted Airfix armoured car. The Airfix armoured car was weird - a strange hybrid between the 231 and 234 series - the 75mm PaK40 gun of the 234/4 on a 231 chassis. So, new superstructure and balsa turret gave my 1970s/80s armoured divisions a more typical armoured car - this is the sole survivor of half a dozen, now replaced by more accurate Frontline Miniatures vehicles. The 105mm artillery piece is the Revell offering, probably 90s, - I still have the other gun and horse team in it's box.

...And how my paint schemes have changed over the years...

These date back to the 1960s though have had a number of paint schemes. This scheme must be late 60s-early 70s.

Being repaired rather than replaced helps date this one. The 1980s were a time of unemployment, so the new gun and mantle suggests that era. Didn't have much money for new stuff. Not sure when the commander lost his head! Nor do I know where the rest of his Regiment is.

The 90s then up to  2007 was the next major 'expansion' - these are early ones, mainly Matchbox. Had a lot of Matchbox kits. 122 is a simple gun conversion - my original and long gone Pz3s were converted Stugs with carved balsa turrets. Think I saw one of those turrets a while back, not sure where.

Think these are Frontline figures - got a lot of them. Must get round to painting the hubcaps.

Continuing the dappled scheme - R04 is a Headquarters vehicle - had to allocate this thing somewhere.

Size comparison of Airfix and 'Deagostini' models - I originally matched the Deagostini tanks with Armourfast, they are slightly bigger than Airfix.

On the other hand, the Tiger is a lot bigger than Airfix!

Tiger Tiger

Back in April I mentioned buying some Panthers and Tigers in Norwich.

 Since then I've been slowly painting these and the Tigers are finished.

20mm tanks are not something I paint all that well. For German Late War I decided that I liked the dappled colour scheme - sand with brown and green patches, sand dots covering the brown and green to give a dappled effect. Only seen a couple of pictures of German tanks using this scheme, most of mine do though not always with the dappling.

I usually hand paint markings and again have a 'standardised' method - red on white numbers, first digit 1-4 for company, they're all 1st Platoon so second number 1, 3 tanks per platoon numbered 1-3.

The Panthers represent the first two companies, the Tigers are the 3rd and 4th company. Twelve tanks, my standard for a '12 Tank Armoured Division'!

Found in the attic

Over the years I must have had thousands of 1/76, 1/72 and 20mm tanks and things. In time, they have tended to be packed away in various places and more or less forgotten. So, there I was looking in the attic when I came across a box...

Mostly Russian.

 I thought that this lot are all Frontline models. In fact, I'm part way through painting a recent order from them now. However, Frontline don't have any KV85s in their catalogue so I must be at least partially mistaken.

 This one is an oddity.  I used to have a number of JS2s that were converted from Airfix Stalin 3s with balsa turrets. Looks like in later years I found one of the turrets and simply stuck it on a KV turret - don't remember doing that!

 Airfix Shermans I used to have in vast quantities - looks like a few survived. It is possibly (but perhaps unlikely) that some of these are 50 years old.

 Airfix also produced 'toy' versions - had a few of these but not many.

 They're quite easy to identify.

I'm sure that the attic will produce more MIA vehicles in future - sometime over the summer I might start sorting all all my WW2 stuff!

Panthers and Tigers

The same trip to Norwich that netted those 6mm trees also netted this lot!

Well, most of them anyway.

Looks expensive but they were £4.99 each and 3 for 2! So at about £3.30 each, a lot cheaper than anyone else's 1/72nd figures. I've compared them with other manufacturers and they are virtually identical size wise.

Already had one Tiger from a previous visit so only bought 5(?)

The Ferdinands are from the Italian campaign - they have machine guns. It also said that on the display box.

Already had a couple of Somuas so topped this up with a third.

There's no manufacturer's name name on the box, but the display case does tell you the actual model depicted. Some on EBay are described as being by Deagostini, others as Eaglemoss. Or they could be ixo / antyla!

The down side of these cases is that the vehicles are attached using a strange triangular tamper proof thread. In the past these have been a pain to undo - but I manged to find a set of screwdrivers that included one head that would undo them!

So result is a lot of good, detailed vehicles that will need repainting. Not sure when I'll get round to that...

Further thoughts... might use those spare display cases at some time as well...
