The Red Queen

And hubby. Mustn't forget...  er whoever...

The Queen is a pretty imposing figure. The King... well, poor guy...

That face is downright evil. I've allowed myself to be influenced by the 'original' as far as colour schemes go, but with some differences. Weirdly, the black paint pen colour is showing up as bluish here - looks strange on the photo, don't get the effect on the model.

The King isn't really that small at all. It's just that the Queen is so big.

Caliver pulp figures

I was tempted to say Minifigs pulp figures, but for the sake of accuracy...

Figures from two separate ranges Caliver now own. The back row are described as 28mm, really a bit bigger than that. The front figures are by Matchlock Miniatures and are true 25mm - though optimistically called 25/28mm!

If the Matchlock  figures are 'bread and butter' types, you can't say that about the Rogue Miniatures on  the back row.  Couldn't resist the Britannia or Child Catcher figures... Although described as 28mm, the figure between Britannia and the Child Catcher is actually 32mm.  Described as 'Unidentified. Flying. Officer, it is obviously from UFO  but in fact is also a very good Movellan!  Might get more of these. Incidentally, the bases weren't provided.

Personal view of these? Like them and will be buying more. Delivery took 10 days.

Bought in Brighton

Anyway, enough about the (expletive deleted) Post Office, what did I get in Brighton? From the Toy Museum of course... And yes, well worth a visit...

Lots of Lledo and similar in there so I took the opportunity to grab a load of horse drwan transport - less than £3 each so well worth it.

And a Metropolitan Police car. Already have a couple but frankly Newhaven is the sort of place where you need as many as you can get!
Update - did a little bit of painting on some...

28mm LK II

At the moment I seem to be working very slowly on several different things. This is the German WW1/Interwar LK II by  Empress Miniatures I bought at Partizan.

As usual I've just gone for a straight block colours paint job, no fancy shading or weathering...

The Pz1A is in the (long) queue...

28mm Very British Civil War

At least, they used to be. Now they are liable to be involved in other things.

More figures from Scotland, they even came with their own transport.

As well as standard bearers and a machine gun.

Biggest unit (or could be two) are the Boy's Brigade. You will notice, probably because of their origin, there is a definite Scottish theme.

The small contingent of regulars brought an 18 pounder to the party.

This lot seem to be the local townsfolk acting as a militia.

Now this lot look very Russian...

The Scots themselves seem to have up to three units. As I recall from 1897, a number of Scottish militia units in the late 19th Century did wear grey.

This lot are in tarten trews...

While this lot got the tin hats.

While this lot got the tin hats.

So once again, thank you Mike...

There's nothing there...

I'm seeing things. It's a mirage...

There's nothing there...

There's nothing...

There...

A few of the other figures I got from Mike. They're painted better than I paint them.

Some of the other figures from the RAFM Dunwich Horror set. Gives an idea of the size of the Horror! Again, all figures were painted when Mike sent them.

A retro landing party

Continuing with my repurposed retro ship's crew I've made a landing party.

Command group - the leader in the middle, security NCO on her right and shuttle pilot on her left.

And the squaddies. Must do something with the eyes. Or probably not.

Messing with a seaport

At some stage I need to 'design' and build somewhere to base the fishing fleet and possibly cargo ships. As a start, I've started messing about with a few ideas.

To start I'm looking at a harbour. I haven't settled on a design yet - just looking to see what 'might' work. Later, I'll probably check out plans for real harbours.

This simple design, with or without a river, looks quite functional. I don't think anything smaller would work. Things like a lighthouse are currently 'optional' for the village - lots more storylines for isolated lighthouses. This setup doesn't have much behind the harbour so I think I'll need at least 2' more table. That would make it an 8x4' table.

One thing that seems to be working is the use of some old cut up cork tiles for the harbour walls, etc. It's obviously very basic and stylised but looks OK and, as I had the tiles lying around, cheap!

So that's the beginning. Haven't got a name for the place yet. As Newhaven is my equivalent of Arkham - and will/should have it's own dock area - this is the equivalent of Innsmouth. Looking for a range of small craft to further populate the place I've ordered some stuff from Anyscale Models. No idea what they're like, I'll post them when they arrive!

Newhaven Nightscape

The strange monument in the park. Brought back from... somewhere... by the University. It seemed to cast a baleful influence over the entire park..

Darkness falls quickly. Tired. A park bench...

To sleep, perchance to dream... standing by the monument in a washed-out world of unearthly colours... standing next to a strange beast. He could feel the evil, a disinterested kind of evil, a creature that... didn't care. It had it's own reasons and desires.

A creature not of this Earth... in his mind he could see it's homeland, on a far away moon... strangely eager to show him around this strange dreamscape. To see another Earth, to see what lived so close to us. A world of monsters...

Cold fear surrounded his heart as the creature showed him... things. That even his church was desecrated by an unspeakable evil...

Of creatures that preyed on the dead in the graveyard...

Strange gods worshipped by strange acolytes... gods that could be seen, gods whose evil could be felt, tearing away the layers of his mind...

Just as the churches were occupied by evil, the houses of the Dreamscape had inhabitants, voracious creatures eagerly awaiting the opportunity to slip into the real world and feed...

Dawn arrives, and knowledge of that terrifying night floods his brain. A human brain that was never designed for such insight...

The Homecoming Day Massacre

Missed Valentine's Day, and of course these events actually took place the day after Homecoming, but...

Police engage the fishmen at the front of the parade as the Naval escort comes up in support.

While at the back the Fishmen decide not to attack the High Priestess and acolytes of the Church of Dagon.

The people at the back are just beginning to realise something is wrong.

The fighting at the front is fierce with casualties on both sides.

The fishmen are starting to feel the pressure.

While panic is setting in at the back of the parade. Some people are fleeing, others still don't know what's happening...

A view down Church Street as the fishmen at the back of the Parade start their charge. Most people in the crowd are simply unaware yet what is about to happen.

As the crowd at the back starttrying to get away the lady with the pram is caught...

Totally unaware of what is happening at the back the police and Naval escort chase of the surviving fishmen and start their pursuit.

The crew of the Lovecraft don't realise what is happening as the crowd starts to mill about in confusion - many still haven't seen the fishmen...

They killed Alice!!!

Lovecraft's crew have realised something is up and start towards the back.

One brave lady fights back and shoots a Fishman before being overcome herself.

The vicar tries to call the police and escort back but isn't having much luck.

The fishmen continue to wreak havoc but they are starting to face resistance. The fishman who killed Alice is itself killed, as is one of the crew of the Lovecraft.

As more of the crew of the Lovecraft start engaging the fishmen they decide they've caused enough damage to the humans and break off the action.

At a loss of 5 of their own they killed over a dozen humans, including 2 policemen and one of the Lovecraft's crew. It had proved a hard day for the town of Newhaven.
