Sassanid size comparison

Some time ago I was asked how compatible Garrison Sassanids were with Lamming and Hinchliffe. Well, finally got round to sorting it.

First, though, just to mention I've finished my second Garrison unit. At the moment I'm working on a load of 'S' Range one piece castings.

So this is the comparison. Garrison, then Lamming, then Hinchliffe. As their Konti are not integral I've chopped their tops off. As can be seen they are all compatible though the Lamming rider is a bit shorter.

As I've mentioned before Garrison did produce masters for a 20(ish)mm Sassanid clibinarius. The horse of this is more or less compatible with the final 25mm horse, but the rider is much smaller.

25mm Sassanid Clibanarii

Having all those Sassanid elephants I thought I should start a 25mm Garrison Sassanid army. Looking through my stock box I found a dozen or so Clibanarii and cast another dozen to start it off. First 12 now finished...

Quite a colourful bunch.

It was around about this time that I realised that I really should touch up the pointy sticks and that I had forgotten to paint on their leather gloves...

But as they say, a work of art is never really finished. The faults aren't that obvious at ground level.

That leaves me wondering what to do next - finish the last lot of Vanha elephants, or do the next Clibanarii unit.

Seleucid/Roman HC update

I've now painted and based the second unit of shielded javelin cavalry. Because I want to be able to use them for both Seleucid and Roman armies I've just given them plain shields - red shields can act as Roman cavalry, green shields as an Allied Italian contingent. Only reason for green shields is that I painted these at the same time as the Indian chariots - no sense in changing paints all the time. Although these two units are enough for my needs there is still my 'original' unit waiting in the wings of course.

I've added standard bearers to both units. Difficult conversion - crossbar cut from a spear and paper flag. Again, I've left them in plain colours. If I did do a third unit I would probably give them blue shields.

Both units consist of a command element and four three figure bases - the command element being present to act as general or subordinate general, the other four elements make up my 'standard' 12 figure unit (standard non-Garrison I should add - most of my Garrison cavalry units are 24 figures.)

Lamming Sassanids

Plus a Minfigs elephant.

This army was in the process of refurbishment when I moved on to other armies. So, yet another army requiring work...

Quite a compact army - didn't get to finish it. Needs at least a dozen more clibinarii and some infantry. I do have 8 Hinchliffe clibinarii but they don't really match. Haven't tried it yet but I think the Garrisonones should be a reasonable match.

The figures are a lot like Bill Lamming - very solid. One need with these cavalry is to have a kontos replacement day.

These were part way through a repaint. I always liked to spend time on shields.

I did have more of these but they were borrowed by my Achaemenids.

Actually the archers also spent a lot of time with Cyrus. There is a unit of light javelins - they're still serving the earlier Monarchy.

The others either need work  to repair them or complete a repaint. The Minifigs elephants was just abandoned part way through because I don't really like it. Crew are Lamming, not sure where the original crew are.
