Generic wooden buildings

I'll be needing to sort Chinese/Indian/generic Oriental buildings in future so...
... I've quickly sorted a village. Basically, made too many of the Arab type buildings so just built over the top of some of them!

A lot of village huts seem to have had verandahs so I thought I'd make one like that as well.

The walls and roof tiles are simply downloaded and printed pictures from the internet rather than 'bought' items. In order to give a bit of variety in the planking I used horizontal planks for the front and rear of the buildings, vertical planking on the sides, doors and window shutters.

One of the downsides of using a wet PVA glue like school glue is that it causes leaching of ink. This does sometimes give strange looking colours - compare the colours here - but overall I actually like the effect! The greens and yellows just look like weathering.

OK, to sum up. I now have a small general far eastern village. Not well made or totally realistic but the overall effect is acceptable. They were also quickly and cheaply produced using materials I already had lying around (do the previously completed Arab buildings count as 'materials'?)

At some time in the future I must extend the building programme to include buildings with courtyards, plus more with verandahs.

And bigger

Two more buildings arrived to complete this tranche.

These are two separate buildings and add a couple of useful shops to the town.

Though if I were to put them at the back of the table with the backs facing the front they could just as easily act as more flats.
One thing about these - the packages arrived with some of the best protection I've come across!

Making the town bigger

Although I've now got quite a few 1/87th-1/76th buildings, most of them are more suitable for country use rather than towns. So at the moment I'm quietly building up the 'town' side of things.

Ugly looking building this - not sure if this is the front or the back. Think I'll use it as the back.

Which would make this the front... looks more 60s than 20s or 30s but it's fantasy so?

A bit prettier and probably a lot more realistic for the period.

Another block of flats - groups like these should be very useful in giving things a town look.

Ebay opportunism

Hopefully Part 1 - with Part 2 in the post...
Although not heavily involved with the 20mm WW2/Pulp stuff at the moment, I do still keep an eye out for things on Ebay. Saw these, thought 'I'll try an offer', didn't expect it to be accepted - it was, they've arrived. Needa little bit of work, but frankly for all I know in alternate Lovecraftian universes they might have had satellite dishes in the 20s/30s...
The hopefully Part 2 bit should arrive on Saturday... and makes this one look... well, I'll wait until Saturday...

A Vollmer church

As the various Faller/Vollmer buildings seem to work well I'm continuing to look out for reasonably cheap second hand items. My main aim is to avoid have to spend lots of time building kits so I'm only looking at ready built models.
Shown here with three different nominal scales of figures - 20mm, 25mm and 28mm. 28mm won't fit all that well, others look good.

The model itself is quite a bit larger than the others and looks quite impressive.
These models will, I hope, have three uses: Napoleonic 20mm, WW2 and 20mm Pulp. Obviously some items will be of use with only one or two of these - modernish industrial items not a lot of use with Napoleonics for instance... but that church will fit all three nicely. Certainly for pulp I look for two main centrepieces for games - a decent church and a decent hall/mansion/castle/university building.

6mm Terrain

Seem to be posting a lot at the moment - it won't last!

So, many years ago I had a load of 1/300th scale WW2 stuff - still, actually. Some of them were the kind that had metal wire as guns - can't remember who m,ade them now.

Also had loads of terrain, quite a bit of it being from Irregular Miniatures in fact. Anyway, some of this I put on various bits of scrap plywood and added things like walls made from matchsticks. I've sorted out some of that old terrain and put it together with the new MDF buildings - some restoration may be needed but overalkl I've got enough to act a functioning terrain board.

6mm Buildings Update

Getting there. The beauty of these is how quick it is to build a city! I won't pretend that I'm being careful about these - basically, I'm just throwing them together.

Trees are a load I picked up from Langley's in Norwich, vehicles are just undercoated Garrison - some day might finish them...

6mm Empires at War buildings

Over the last few years one of my 'neglected' projects has been 6mm SciFi. Garrison had a nice range of hover tanks, etc, and I did did get round to painting some. Last year I bought some infantry (still haven't done anything with them) and during my current spending spree I got some of the 6mm and 20mm buildings by Empires at War.

They do a couple of packs that contain 4 buildings for £10 and today I thought... why not try one...

So I did. Took, ooohh... several minutes...

They don't cost much, are easy to put together, look OK - think I'll be adding a few more.

The kits themselves are a simple 7 part 'frame.

Over this frame you then glue odd bits of detail including 'ready painted' frontages. A bit rough on close up, but fine on the table. This one is just under 7cm wide.

Scale-wise, I think they're a bit underscale - 5mm rather than 6mm - but they'll more than do the job.

Meanwhile, as I was writing this up I built another one.
