the 1st ever giant robot fight might be scripted for entertainment, is the conclusion I draw from the fact that it's already happened and wasn't broadcast live
According to MegaBots, the duel consisted of several rounds, spaced out over several days to give the teams time to repair their bots. Gui Cavalcanti of MegaBots told The Verge that there were no points or scoring — it was purely winner-take-all by knockout. Additionally, the weight, power, size, and weapons of the bots were “left to each individual team,” and they were designed “to not cut through metal, but instead to damage it.”
supposed to be broadcast on Oct 17th, 7pm https://go.twitch.tv/megabotsinc but not on any network or website I've ever heard of.... so, what that about?

the Japan entry is from Suidobushi, and known as Kuratas, the Chinese entry is from Great Metal, and known as Monkey King

Don't watch before taking a nap... the future is now. Robots on wheels, that can jump. Warehouse workers across the world are suddenly obsolete if this thing can move things from shelf to shipping
Boston Dynamics is best known for its bipedal and quadrupedal robots, but it turns out the company has also been experimenting with some radical new tech: the wheel.
The company’s new wheeled, upright robot looks like a cross between a Segway and the two-legged Atlas bot. It hasn’t been officially unveiled, but was shown off by company founder Marc Raibert in a presentation to investors. Footage of the presentation was uploaded to YouTube by venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson.
Raibert describes Handle as an “experiment in combining wheels with legs, with a very dynamic system that is balancing itself all the time and has a lot of knowledge of how to throw its weight around.” He adds that using wheels is more efficient than legs, although there’s obviously a trade-off in terms of maneuvering over uneven ground. “This is the debut presentation of what I think will be a nightmare-inducing robot,” says Raibert:

mega bots are a go... here's how they are building it
They've created a YouTube series that follows the design, fabrication, and testing of America’s first mech in preparation for the world’s first Giant Robot Duel between us and Suidobashi Heavy Industry of Japan.
