21 years and counting ... until now

For awhile there, I thought it actually would be 59 years and counting before I landed this card. But last week my counting came to a merciful end after a 21-year wait. It's strange how long certain cards elude me. Specifically, I have tried to figure out why this particular card was so evasive. Here is my basic thought process concerning this card: Me: Well, it IS 1989 Donruss . You didn't buy many of those cards. Me, quickly realizing I'm an idiot: But '89 Donruss is EVERYWHERE. You have 7 versions of most of the other Dodgers in the set. Me: It's a quirky and popular card. Orel Hershiser was huge in 1989 and you can't get more charming than showing the top pitcher in the majors juggling. People probably hung onto this card longer than other cards. MQRIAI: But '89 Donruss is EVERYWHERE. You have 7 versions of most of the other Dodgers in the set. Me: People probably hoarded their Hershiser cards thinking they were going to be valuable. And ther...

T206 has killed retro for me

It is minus 17 degrees right now up here. That doesn't have anything to do with this post. But I thought I'd mention that just to show you that you can actually string a thought together under those ungodly conditions. Or maybe not. You'll be the judge of that. OK, if you've been wandering the blogs the last couple of days you have noted the screaming about the National Chicle set that Topps will be releasing this year. I'm not going to jump into that, basically because I don't have anything new to say. And the mother of all posts on the topic has already been written. But it's also because of this: I am officially sick of retro card products. I know. I can't believe it either. I think I've written at least 300 times on this blog alone and about 700 more times on other blogs how much I smoochy smooch the retro sets. I think I may have threatened to drive somewhere and kick some random collector's ass because he disparaged the good name of a re...

My last day of doing what I want

Another vacation week has come and gone. This is my last day of doing what I want, so I'm going to do what I want and post cards from some trades. But first a brief vacation recap: Snow. Wind. Can't see 2 feet in front of me. Ah, good times. Through it all, the good mail carriers still delivered card packages to my door. I haven't posted the contents of those cards yet, because I'm still working on the cards that arrived pre -blizzard. These cards are from the one and only Spastik Mooss of The Great Sports Name Hall of Fame , and Brian at Play at the Plate . I'll start with The Mooss ' cards. First, here is my first 2009 Sweet Spot Dodger card. I saw it on the GSNHOF site and instantly claimed it. It's a nice-looking card, but there is no way I'm putting down 30 bucks for one of those Sweet Spot tins at Target. I heed the warnings posted on the internets . Well, sometimes. A very early card of the Dodgers' current closer, Jonathan Broxton . So e...
