Human see, human do

I received my first COMC order of the year Monday. I requested shipment on July 12 and it was originally slated to arrive in late August. Instead it showed up in 17 days. That's record time. During a period when ebay service is all over the map (yet I am hounded by PROVIDE FEEDBACK emails the second I receive an order), it's nice to see someone picking up the slack, especially with all the past complaints about COMC delays.   This COMC order is a reflection of my tour through various web sites, card blogs, social media, whatever. Whenever I saw a card that I liked, into the COMC cart it went. That means sometimes when I pulled a card out of the shipment I was like "what'd I order this for?" The only explanation is "human see, human do." I wanted the card at that time.   So here's a look at me jumping off a bridge just because everyone else did it.   Much of these knee-jerk orders involved Dodger cards. I couldn't tell you where or when I saw ...

My frustration in list form

As a fan who roots for the Dodgers, I find three recurring elements of the game more frustrating than any other. The first is leaving runners on base. I'm sure every fan of every other team feels this way about their team, too, but the Dodgers I am positive have led the league in runners stranded for at least the last 35 consecutive years. The second is seeing a pitcher that your team surrendered willingly turn around and beat your team. I witnessed this with Eric Stults just a couple of days ago. I could sit here for 15 years and not come up with a reason why the Dodgers couldn't hit Stults. The third is seeing a pitcher own your team year after year as if the only reason for his career is to beat the Dodgers. I've been aware of this one since I could root for a specific team. Over the years, I've come to know certain pitchers dominate the Dodgers. John Candelaria, Dennis Martinez, Mario Soto, Chris Carpenter. But I never had any numbers to back it up. Was i...

Define the design: 73T, 76T, 08T

First off, I would like to say, a hearty, long-overdue, much-deserved congratulations to ... Heh, heh. Don't worry. I'm not congratulating them . They'll be patting themselves on the back long into next year. They don't need me. So, instead, I've decided to ignore them. And it may last all the way through 2010. (However, if I happen to hear one more Yankee say, "it's been a long time," I am going to set out to play every lottery and visit every casino in the country for the REST OF MY LIFE until I win enough to buy a baseball team. Then I'm going to pool my vast cash-laden resources with a few richy-rich Cubs fans who r eally know what "a long time" means, rename my club the Antiyankees , and make the team's mission statement as follows: "We will do everything possible to make sure the Yankees don't win again until every other team has won 27 World Series titles.") No, my congratulations are going to the 2008 Topps se...
