Gint-a-cuffs III: Out of its misery

I normally try to space out Gint-a-Cuffs posts a little more to give the A&G haters a break. But since I have only four packs left, and I don't like posting these things on the weekend, I'll throw this one post in and we can all say "Phew!" together. One thing I want to know with this year's A&G is: where the hell are all the autographs? You used to get at least one per box. I can recall only a handful of people pulling an autographed card out of this year's version. What's with the difficulty? Again, I like A&G for the base cards and the crazy variety, but a declining rate of autos is not a selling point. All right, enough whinery. Time for Packs 21-24, which historically have been the dullest packs of the box. Observe: PACK 21 50 - Carl Crawford, Red Sox (0 points) 28 - John Lindsey, Dodgers (+1 favorite team) It's very cool that Lindsey is in this set after so long in the minors. But I don't get why Topps included him...

Trade. Cards. Deal.

I've finally reached the portion of my trading backlog where I address the massive collection of goodies sent by Smed during his spring cleaning fiesta. I've paid the postage, and started looking for some cards to send in return, but unfortunately, there's no time for anything else. Normally, with a collection of cards like this, I'd do a What's the Best Card in the Package post and force you to view the whole thing until your eyes bled and you were humming '70s commercials for the next two months. I can't do that this week. So, instead, I'm merely splitting the cards into two different posts. The first post is my 12 favorite Dodgers cards from the package. The second post -- who knows when you'll see that. There won't be anything too creative with either of these posts. It's a trade. Here are some cards. Deal with it. Oh, and thanks, Smed. Commence countdown: 12. 2010 Bowman Draft Leon Landry gold parallel: "Neon Leon...

Testament to patience

As a people, we suck at patience. And, if it's possible, we're getting suckier. People can't wait for anything. Email "takes too long." The guy driving 80 ahead of you is "too slow." How many times have you cursed your phone because you're not online in 10 seconds? I know I've done it more than once. We can't wait for food. We can't wait for a delivery. We can't wait for service of any kind. And we're getting worse. As a manager for more than 10 years, I've watched the people I hire grow more and more impatient with how "slowly" things move. And that includes their own progress. If they are not evaluated to have progressed at the warp-speed idea that they have in their heads, they are offended. Sometimes they get pissed off. Sometimes they're mad at themselves. Sometimes they're mad at me. Sometimes it's both. Personally, I blame all the Red Bull. People are impatient in their jobs, impatient...
