Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Ardennes - A few new German bits .

I am a bit behind on posting completed stuff , so just a bit of a catch up post . The latest additions for the Ardennes collection is a small up top of vehicles . The first being the Ersatz Stug ( could do with a few more ) for a poor attempt at fooling the US defenders , a resin piece from battlefront . I picked up a couple of Quad 20mm AA half tracks off e bay several months ago , and found some other half track tractors that will be used for anti tank gun transport in the stash  . I have found the STL for the Ersatz Panther/M10 and have one being produced .

Earlier in the year I had picked up a 2x2 winter town layout map from Deepcut which is a useful addition

Armoured cars

Hetzers  support for the Volksgrenadiers

Bonkers of course , a niche SturmTiger

Completed a second King Tiger .
Pleased the paint job was pretty close to the one I did 4 years ago

Will need to knock out some more infantry support next for the Germans . Then another US infantry platoon .

We are planning another winter game at the end of the month , so they will have an opportunity to fail miserably pretty soon

Ardennes ‘44 . The Chapel and winter German kit

Another little update . I had picked up,a 3D printed Chapel and this has been completed along with a stand of Nuns . Well they should provide some random event opportunities I think

The Nuns are from a Blue Moon set with priests as well - though they are very much Dracula hunters l but these 3 will do the job

I needed to add some extra German armour and I had some with a basecoat already on in the stash . I did a basic camo scheme and green brown wash . A bit of base highlight then the winter drybrush and snow gel was added .

An old Battlefront resin piece .

Next is the more base armour - Stugs and PzIV

That’s it for now - next top up here will be some more American infantry bits .

Edit - I managed to also get some Bazooka teams done for the Yanks

Ardennes’44 . More US vehicles and Volksgrenadier.

Another busy week had . More US army vehicles and the top up to take me to a full Volksgrenadier company

M18 Hellcats - one of my favourites

M8 Greyhounds - another favourite

M16 AAA Halftrack

The ubiquitous Jeep

The vehicle column now extends to 8 feet long - that enough for now I reckon

Next the German infantry

3 VG platoons and company command . Plus the reduced strength Panzer Grenadiers platoon . That enough infantry for now l will add support options , HMG’s and Mortars . Then it’s into Vehicles .

It’s been a good week .

Ardennes ‘44 - Rear echelon additions and a few other bits

This weeks additions are mostly American rear echelon pieces . These will make good scenario pieces with rear troops being caught and having to defend or escape .

Most are 3d prints from Battlefield 3D - which makes these kind of items really easy to get now .

Telegraph wagon and Armoured wrecker

GMC wrecker and covered M3 Halftrack

Dodge and Ambulance

Water trailer and various supply scatter pieces

Some new 76mm armed Sherman’s

A few new Panzergrenadiers

That’s been a period of decent focus which has now got this up and running . Still more troops to add of course , but I have enough for the first game - huzzah!

This of course means time for a new focus of course ..
