Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

Cold War gone Hot - New terrain bits

I have a bit of a painting plan for the winter to work through the "to list". I am working up in scale overall starting with the smaller stuff first mostly.

I was given some 6mm terrain items in late 2018 to add to the WWW3 collection , so I have finally got these knocked out.

Each tile is a5 sized or 8 x 6 . One is made up of bombed out residential buildings the other is a bit of an industrial space.

rubble made from crumbling some hardened terracotta colour Milliput.
The workshop building had 84 windows altogether, each with 8 panes to highlight  - that was fun!

For now that sees off the outstanding 6mm items in the the "plan"

and its good to be back productive again.

Cold War Gone Hot - Bridges

I mentioned before i was looking for some better bridges as I thought the resin ones i have are just too small. I went on a interweb trawl looking for model railway ones so here are the ones i found.

These are N gauge MDF kits for a short and long single track girder bridge . The are by In The Greenwood Laser . They are 45mm wide , 47mm high , and 97mm and 145mm long respectively.
The price was reasonable , the  service from the the company was quick, and they are a nice simple kit to put together.

I made some supports and ramps from some 2mm MDF bases I had in stock. The end supports and bridges have small magnets in them to enable the main bridge to be removed to pack them  away easier - and allow me to add other bridge types in the future too.

I gave both bridges a spray in an olive drab colour and gave them a bit of highlighting work. I added on roadway detail by making it in Powerpoint and print it off on heavier paper and glueing on with PVA.

Cold War Gone Hot - More Soviets

Just another top up for my Soviets , with a mixed bag of T80's , BTR60's MT-LB, BRDM2s, and BMD3s. Plus some OT64 and OT65s  for other WARPAC forces - anyway enough of what would seem to be random collections of letters

So currently that completes the various soviet stuff I have from the lead pile , until I get a bit more infantry

I am going to do some small NATO forces from the Brits, Germans and the US to complement the stuff the other guys have , just so I have forces for both sides as well.

I picked up some more building from Timecast at the York show, and these on the workbench now as we have another game in couple of weeks.

New Year new projects - Cold War gone Hot!

As alluded to in the New Year post I have my eye on a couple of new projects. There will be a new man cave in the first half of the year - bigger and better with a large permanent table. With having a larger table I have decided to go for some smaller scale projects , but be able to do larger battles with them.

The first project will be 1980s Europe with the Warsaw pact forces deciding to march westward. I picked these GHQ tanks upon the 80's mostly after they were first released so its good to finally see some progress.

This lot are the the various British - Chieftains, Challengers, Scorpions , Scimitars , Warriors and Rapier launchers.

for now this has used up the unpainted brits , I have Germans , and Americans to do plus a horde of Soviets. I will need to work out some proper orbats etc and pick up the various other bits I need. But its a start
