Picking up those brushes again.

Hi and welcome to the occasional mutterings of Dave Doc, a military modeller and some time gamer. Gaming and model making has given me a real education, History & Geography(obvious really), Artistry, Politics, Economics, Logistics, Project Management -you try building miniature armies without the last 3.

I will use the blog to record my creations & the odd occasion I actually do some gaming.

I have always been inspired by the aesthetic side of gaming. Playing on well constructed terrain using excellently painted units is always a joy.

7 Days to the Rhine & Necromunda top ups

First painting of the year completed .

First up 5 T64’s to take my total to 10 which is a lot for a 7 Days game . Hopefully the campaign game will kick off later in Jan .

They are from the Battlefront TY range . Simple enough kit , with a Tamiya rattle can and oil washes with a highlight.

I had also picked a set of GW Hive Scum before Xmas so I have completed these . I did a pure white undercoat and then used the Vallejo Xpress paints , in this case a lot of primary colours . They certainly do the job. They will probably get a wash to tone them down a bit in future but for now I like them as they are .

Plenty more on the paint desk at the moment .

Necromunda - Market and M1’s for 7 DTTR

I have been clearing out more bits from the seemingly never ending part done pile of paint table lurkers .

Previously having completed the Necromunda market place terrain set I had picked up some 3d printed figures from ETSY that will be set dressing , or gang hangers on etc .

Checking through the lead pile I had some original old school Van Saar figures so I thought I would crack these off too. The are smaller in stature than the newer plastics of course , but they can be used as Juves and Van Saar are supposed to be a bit weedy anyway.

That gives me enough to do different gangs with lots of weapon options too . I might just pick up another box of Grav Cutter riders as a whole game with them might be fun!

Having completed the A10s for 7 Days I went looking for some other American kit I had picked up in a swap a while back . Mostly it’s just built plastic, but there were a few nearly finished MERDC paint jobs on some  M1 Abram’s so I have completed these - well until I get some stowage etc sorted for them

4 is certainly enough for a 7 Days force , so perhaps a few APCs and infantry units might get added . Though I now find myself looking at a little project for Blackhorse Cavalry (11th Cav ) for the Fulda Gap . I have some more built M1’s that I fancy doing in the green /black paint scheme sometime.

Next thing to think about is what to start painting for the challenge .

Necromunda- terrain bits

Over the last few weeks I have completed some terrain items for our Necromunda set ups . The Underhive market place set from GW and a couple of terrain base squares . I am waiting delivery of some 3d printed traders to add to it .

I picked up a couple of hard plastic floor tiles used for workshop/garage areas and have given these a distressed look that fits in with how James has painted his stuff . We can also use these to put on top of wall sections to give some more height options on our battlefields .

That’s is for now..

Necromunda - Meet the DerrFlingers” - Van Saar gang

Bit of left field randomness going on here . JamesM has been busy building terrain for his Necromunda revisited collection and now has plenty for a game . We got one in over at Pendrakens shop a couple of weeks ago so MartinC and I are doing out own gangs.

Back in the 90s I had some Van Saar so I have created a new gang .I have a few of the metals hanging around in the lead pile and will add them even though a little smaller than the new plastics.

I used some of the new Vallejo Xpress Lizard Green over a dark green undercoat which had been heavy dry brushed up an ochre then white/ochre mix. The paint worked well dried nicely matt and covered well with depth and highlight. I still added a little extra highlight after but not much .

And the guys in GravCutters .flying around

JamesM is going to run the long term campaign so we will see how these guys do .

Not my usual fodder ,but I did enjoy doing them and the Xpress paints made doing them a fair bit quicker .

Dystopian Times - Part 1 Communications tower

This post seems the start of new project. This will be some skirmish gaming for future sci-fi dystopian world.

I picked up some bundles of MDF kits when I was at the Crisis show a few years ago and they have lain in the “to do” pile - it somehow feels appropriate to kick this project off now

This piece is 8 inches diameter by 15 inches high.

I have made this piece into a communications tower. The centre of the build is a Pringles tube. The top part is a recycled yoghurt pot . I have added a piece of car aerial with a wired in red LED to the top . The battery box, switch and wiring are in contained in the pot . This part is removable as well .

This piece was from Products for Wargamers . It went together pretty well

The stash that remains to be built
