I hate ants!
My previous transit flat was a horrible ant kingdom. It was probably built on an anthill. Ants and their main predator, the cicaks were everywhere.The ants got into my boxes even when there were no food or sugary stuff in them. They got into my picture frame, my files, on my bed and even in my laptop! Waking up in the morning with ants bite marks became a normal thing. I spent more than hundreds buying things to control the population. Semua bende yang claim boleh bunuh semut I beli. A can of ridsect aerosol would last only about a week. I also tried those serai wangi solution that claimed can keep ants at bay. Serata rumah tu I lap with serai wangi. After sometime, I manage to control their existence, ada jugak semut tapi tak sebanyak when I first moved in. After months living there, I looked for a new place and my first goal was, nak cari tempat without pests. I didn’t want to deal with lizards and ants anymore. I checked a few places, apartments yang dah ada previous tenants semuanya tak lepas syarat. Tahi cicak & semut merata-rata! So when I found my current apartment, I was ecstatic. It was brand new, and high up in the sky, takde semut, takde cicak… and also, tak de neighbour (for the first 2 months). I was very happy pasal tak ada cicak & semut! I made sure that my things from my transit flat were ants free before I brought them to the new apartment. Semua isi kotak dah kena sembur with insecticide & dettol disinfectant. Rasa macam kerja jadi biosecurity officer kat NZ airport je tau. Maka bermulalah hidup indah bebas semut selama 7 minggu… tapi kusangka panas hingga ke petang, rupanya hujan tak sempat angkat kain.
I went to Amareka for 2 weeks and less than an hour after I came back, I saw and ant trail in my kitchen. Rasa nak hysteria! I followed the trail and found a sarang semut in a box of aluminium foil which was not mine.
Kisahnya, while I was away, my friend moved into my apartment. She needed a place to stay for a few weeks before she leave for her postgraduate studies abroad and I was happy to have her stay at mine. It was NOT her fault that the ants got there. She didn’t realize that the ants were in the box and in other things that she brought from her transit flat to my place (previously, she also lived in the same ant-infested block as mine). By the time I got back, the ants have travelled far and wide in the apartment! *sigh*. Bermula kembali aktiviti lama memerangi semut setiap hari.
Today, when I dah siap nak keluar mencari sesuap nasi kat kedai makan, I went to the kitchen to wash my hand. I saw an ant trail and this time their home is in a little match box (also not mine!). Orang lain mungkin tak nampak, tapi mata I memang dah macam ada radar semut. Nampak aje! Dipendekkan cerita, I berjaya keluar dari rumah hanya selepas 1 jam lepas tu.
