"Mysticae" contains the Original TV Soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone for the RAI series, "L'uomo e la magia". "Mysticae" was also the first LP published by Cometa. Movie director Sergio Giordana started to work for RAI (Italian State TV) in 1963, and since then he showed his talents for investigation documentaries. In 1972 he proposed and carried out for RAI a mini series titled "L'uomo e la magia". Having the opportunity to develop the series in eight episodes, and that joint to the fact of the great interest of the general public for the topic it was very challenging for Giordana. Since ever the Magic and Superstition influence human behavior is something extremely interesting and fascinating at the same time, and it always had the power to capture the mind and heart of mankind. Cometa Edizioni Musicali was in charge of editing the music soundtrack of this TV series. Ivana Mattei, who after more than 40 years is still the owner and CEO of Cometa Edizioni Musicali, recalls to mind: The soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone was recorded in the Forum Studio in Rome, where the brilliant Sergio Marcotulli was the sound engineer. Needless to say, "L'uomo e la magia" series and its soundtrack had a great success, and won director Sergio Giordani the international award Ondas. It was a real and proper magic.

Ennio Morricone ‎– Come Un Girotondo (1977, LP, Italy)

In 1978 Roberto Faenza directed Forza Italia!, a ferocious satire on the power of the Italian Christian Democrat party covering thirty years of Italian political history. The film was withdrawn from the theatres on the day Aldo Moro, President of the Christian Democrats, was kidnapped, and remains banned for over 15 years. Aldo Moro being the one who will end his life recommending (in his handwritten memoirs found in the den of the Red Brigades in via Monte Nevoso in Milan) to see the film 'if one wants to realize the recklessness of his fellow party members.

Ennio Morricone ‎– Revolver (Colonna Sonora Originale) (1973, LP, Italy)

Revolver is one the finest Ennio Morricone thriller score, composed in 1973 for the great Sergio Sollima’s giallo Revolver: no sweeping themes, no quirky effects, no dissonance sounds just simple ideas, executed to perfection.
Contains “Un Amico”, the beautiful theme heard in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards and the masterpiece Revolver, a 13 minute action piece that dazzles with its brilliance: an incredibly tense dramatic action music of the highest calibre.

This beautiful and rich soundtrack, written especially for "Opposte esperienze", shows  an artistic sensibility that has no equal in the difficult world of cinema,  because it reflects the passions that run and overlap in context and it is  particularly attentive to the feelings that disrupt the lives of humans who  take turns in the film. Only a keen student of human frailties may report  on the musical staff all those feelings that afflict the world daily and Ennio Morricone with his whole experience is this.

"Il Diavolo nel Cervello" (Devil in the brain) is a film directed in 1971 by Sergio Sollima and screened at the beginning of the following year; it's a psychological thriller in which tension is determined by the character's psyche more than their actions. At this time the horror audiences were into Dario Argento's suspense thrillers made up of serial killers, ferocious murders and a pinch of erotism.

After three movies in the 'spaghetti western' genre and the noir "Città violenta" Sollima then decided to make something unpredictable, and paid the consequences of his resolution: his film out went almost unnoticed, and it's been re-evaluated recently, together with the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, who had already scored Sollima's previous works.

"Il diavolo nel cervello" works on an almost-full symphonic register: on a strings background we have piano, harpsichord, flutes and brass instruments. It's a very airy work that creates moments of tension, where the pace is dictated solely by jazzy drums played with drum brushes. Undoubtedly, one of the best productions of the Maestro from those early '70s, including Bruno Nicolai as a conductor and the wonderful Edda Dell'Orso singing choirs.

4. Come Sommersi
SIDE B

Controfase is an unknown (and almost lost) masterpiece.A shadowed giant of compositional skill and deft application - a moment when all the stars and their cycles align - unique, harmonious, undeniably perfect. From Walter Branchi’s skeletal web of processed VCS3 duetting with mournful violin, to Egisto Macchi’s demonstrative percussion jousting Edda Dell’Orso’s breathless siren’s call, Morricone and Nicolai have crafted a radiant, forbidden jewel.

First ever commercial release for this Holy Grail 1972 Library LP of brooding avant orchestral, abstract percussion and analogue synth genius. Special guest appearances from ‘Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza’ and Edda Dell’Orso.

Ennio Morricone Orchestra ‎– Dedicato Al Mare Egeo (1979, LP, Italy)

Dedicato al mare Egeo is a forgotten and bizarre co-production produced between Italy and Japan from 1979, starring the famous Italian porn star Illona Staller (Cicciolina) and directed by the famous Japanese pinter, printmaker and novelist Masuo Ikeda (1934–1997) from his own script based on his novel “Ege-kai ni sasagu”, for which he won the Akutagawa Prize, the most prestigious literary award in Japan. Ikeda’s vigorous artistic activity even included screenplay writing and film directing. With this movie, Masuo Ikeda has undoubtedly left his mark on the ’70s Italian skin cinema.

The awesome, full melodic score composed, orchestrated and conducted by Ennio Morricone for this film was made available for listening on a Japanese LP (Columbia Records LX-7062) soon after the film came out in 1979. The album contained a selection of 11 tracks, and quickly became one of the most sought after items among collectors. The only CD reissue (SLCS-7119) of the score was produced in Japan in the label SLC in 1992. Apart from the original album content the CD also featured a cover version song of the main theme, arranged by Walter Rizzati and performed by Ruggero Gatti. The SLC CD was sold out very quickly and has been out of print for several years by now. Due to its extreme rarity and great artistic value, a new reissue of this score has been highly demanded by collectors. Quartet Records was fortunate enough to locate the original publisher and owner of both the music and movie rights, and kindly offered to realize a long awaited special re-issue of the score.
