Finnish band KUUSUMUN PROFEETTA was born in 2001, a band that grew out of and initially partially co-existed with long time band Moon Fog Prophet. One might say that they in fact were the same band: Kuusumun Profeetta is just Finnish for Moon Fog Prophet after all. And the latter did release an album in 2002, which was to be their last under that moniker. But as the new band name also brought with it a slight change in stylistic expression, one might as well regard them as separate but closely related entities in their own right.
But even as their life as Moon Fog Prophet came to an end, they had already established their new identity as Kuusumun Profeetta, making their debut as a Finnish language act in 2001 with Kukin Kaappiaan Selässään Kantaa. And when playing live they were strengthened by Irina Niemelä on saxophone and Daniel James Finley on percussion and backing vocals at this point in time. Later on their live excursions might occasionally be strengthened by one or more of a group of additional musicians: Jyrki Laiho (guitars), Elli Keltto, Emmi Sydänmaa and Ilana Vähätupa (backing vocals). 2002 also saw their second release Jatkuvasti Maailmaa Pelastamaan Kyllästynyt Supersankari hit shelves, around the same time as Italian label Mellow Records decided to release the final Moon Fog Prophet disc Taunting Tin Bells Through The Mammal Void.
The following year Jyrki Laiho (guitars) and Samuli Peltoniemi (trumpet) became the latest permanent members of the band. In 2004 Sanansaattaja Oraakkeli Salamurha Hyökkäysvaunu was released, their third full length production as Kuusumun Profeetta. A popular album, and their first to hit the Finnish album charts.
At this time the band started cooperating with composer Harri Kerko, and 2006 saw the band release a new album that bore the fruits of this crative union: Hymyilevien Laivojen Satama. This cooperation was continued live as well, with two extensive performances that saw Kerko conducting and the band incorporating a multimedia show. But then matters returned to normal again, and when Lyhtykuja was released in 2008 it was a regular band effort. One year later they released Myrskyn Silmään, their first live DVD.
The next couple of years turned out to be silent ones for this Finnish act, due to the individual members being active elsewhere. Apart from a few live appearencs, the most noteworthy to report from this period was the inclusion of Harri Sippola (guitars) as a permanent member. But the band hadn't been completely at ease for this period, as documented when they announced that a new album was on it's way in May, the forthcoming production to be called Huutoja Hiljaisesta Huoneesta. With 2012 set as the tentative year of release. (progarchives)

Futuro Antico ‎– Dai Primitivi All'Elettronica (1980, LP, Italy)

Futuro Antico was a short-lived collaboration between the two Italians Walter Maioli (Aktuala), Riccardo Sinigaglia and Gabin Dabiré (from Burkina Faso). The synthesis between ancient, ethnic and analog electronic music is just perfect, the minimalist repetition with slight changes lends associations to slow growth; cyclic repetition gives the listener an opportunity to discover the sounds, to meditate, to go into the music, join the same journey through ancient, primitive cultures and modern electronic soundscapes. Originally released in 1980, the sound is completely analog and warm. (forcedexposure)

Folk music has never been very popular in Italy, probably due to the strong differences between the music traditions of the 20 Italian regions, and it's never been as commercially successful as it was with Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare.
Though the progressive rock fans will find NCCP's inclusion here out of place, the group surely deserves a mention for their passionate search of old folk tunes, rearranged and reworked with a modern feel, and in this sense can be considered an example of progressive music.
Formed in Naples around 1967 by composer Roberto De Simone, that never was an active member but rather a sort of inspirer and executive producer, the group released their first LP in 1971 on the small Rare label. Their music, since their beginnings, was strongly based on reworkings of traditional tunes from Naples and its region Campania, with multivocal parts and acoustic guitars, flutes, percussion and all sorts of ancient popular instruments.
A second album, a double one, came in 1972 with new member Nunzio Areni and in the same vein as the previous one, but a little more elaborate from the musical point of view, but success and interest came with the third album, recorded live, and again simply titled with the name of the group.
The band had an intense live activity all over Italy and reached a great, unexpected success with their fourth album, Li sarracini adorano lu sole, and a single taken from it, Tammurriata nera. This song was a late 40's post-war popular song, an exception in the group's repertoire compared to their 16th and 17th century usual tunes.
Following their success, Ricordi reissued in 1975 their first two albums, now spanned over three LP's and with different titles and covers.
In 1976 the folk opera La gatta Cenerentola, represented in many Italian theatres, was again very successful, and the band has kept playing until now, with concerts in every part of the world, and still based on the leading figure of female singer Fausta Vetere.
Long time member Eugenio Bennato left the band in 1976 to form a similar band, Musicanova, along with Carlo D'Angiò, also in the first album line-up. (italianprog)

Angelo Branduardi E Chominciamento Di Gioia – Futuro Antico I (1996, CD, Italy)

"SERIE "FUTURO ANTICO"
Funky brutal drums, mad organ solo, fuzz guitar are brilliantly mixed to softer sounds. The song "Malaria" was selected by Rolling Stone Indonesia as the 44th best Indonesian song of all time.

Taberna Mylaensis ‎– Populu E Santi (1976, LP, Italy)

Pubblicato in Italia all' inizio del 1977 dopo ''Fammi Ristari 'Nto Menzu Di To Brazza" (1976), il secondo album. (RockBottom)
