Metamorfosis – Papallones I Elefants (1982, LP, Spain)

Musicians:
Bass – Jordi Papaseit
Drums, Percussion – Joan M. Grimau
Guitar – Luis Garcia
Guitar, Percussion – Joan Ramos
Keyboards – Jaume Montcusi

The origins of this spanish (or more precisely catalan) band (not to be confused with the italians Metamorfosi or other two bands named Metamorphosis from Switzerland and the Czech Republic) date from 1979 when these 5 musicians from the towns of Tarragona and Reus in the spanish region of Catalunya joined to form a band, which they initially called Companyia Oliva Negra and later on renamed themselves as Metamorfosis.
The main composer of the band was keyboardist Jaume Montcusi, who was joined by Luis Garcia (guitars), Joan Ramos (guitars and percussion), Jordi Papaseit (bass) and Joan M. Grimau (drums and percussion).
Metamorfosis released only one album, in 1982, called Papallones i Elefants (catalan language for Butterflies and Elephants), completely instrumental.
The music is a hybrid consisting mostly of jazz-rock / fusion but also quite some symphonic prog, all the musicianship is highly competent with special mention to the excellent keyboard work of Jaume Montcusi, and will surely appeal to fans of both fusion and symphonic.
Metamorfosis disbanded around 1985 without releasing any other album. Their rehearsal place was converted into Metamorfosis recording studios of which Montcusi became sound engineer, helping regional bands release their music in the 80's and 90's (he also played as keyboardist in some cases such as in the record El bufo de la cort by the local catalan Neo-Prog band Dr. No).
By the late 2000's he was still in the business, the studio now being his own and renamed as Entrepins.
Guitarist Joan Ramos went on to play jazz with a new band called UCCAT. (progarchives)

Fulguromatic – Fulguromatic (2025, CD, Spain)

Tracklist:
1. The Sigh of a Whittled Grove (6:31)
2. The Unconceivable Curse of Atahualpa (5:19)
3. Hidden Realm (1:54)
4. Top 5 des citations d'Albert Einstein (6:58)
5. Nutriscore Z (6:44)
6. Lil' Appeau (3:44)
7. An odd Bird's Bill (4:29)
8. Grmmf (7:50)

Musicians:

Paul Cossé: Fender Rhodes, automated flute, bottle flute, voices, xylophone, piano, percussions, banjoline
Lancelot Rio: Drums, automated bass synth, voices, xylophone, piano, synth, bird call, percussions, guitars

Fulguromatic is a fascinating French duo whose music moves between Canterbury sounds and jazz-rock incorporating a light and somewhat mischievous touch from the planet Zeuhl, resulting in tremendously addictive. Captivating, both musically and timbrally, thanks to the use of invented instruments. Their first album is published by the label áMARXE and is a unique and fresh album for the progressive scene, and an almost magical experience from the first sound to the last.

CD1: Musica Urbana - one of the most impressive albums of its time; its unique contribution was to infuse the languages of rock, jazz and formal composition with flamenco, the Spanish folk tradition and the sensibility of national composers, such as Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albéniz – and then to weave all these elements into a uniquely Spanish iteration of experimental rock. A work of luminous brilliance.
CD2: Joan Albert I Felui Gasul, released a year later by Musica Urbana’s keyboardist Joan Albert Amargos and flamenco virtuoso Feliu Gasul. Again, it is marked by a seamless fusion of styles combined with a lightly-worn intensity and high degree of musical intelligence. With edge-of-the-seat playing and a mixture of compositional and improvisational flexibility, there’s also a lightness and sense of here that conceals the fiendish complexity of the compositions. Joan Albert plays acoustic piano, fender electric and clavinet, Jaume Cortadellus adds some perfectly judged flute on one of the tracks and the whole of Musica Urbana appear on another. Both are beautifully recorded and mixed - with an unusually clear, strong, sound and exquisite separation. Together they capture an explosive cultural moment - which rapidly faded as music industry values regained control.
CD3: Trio Altisent, presents for the first time recordings by Amargos, Gasul and Cortadellus made in 1984, improved and remastered for this box by Bob Drake. Amargos and Gasul went on to become highly respected contemporary composers, Benavent to work with Paco de Lucia, Chick Corea and Miles Davis. And, at one time or another, they all worked with Maria del Mar Bonet. (ReR)

Really amazing and obscure lp by this spanish band led by legendary producer Manolo Diaz. A mixture of avantgarde and serious composition with pop instrumentation, this is a a really amazing lp which borders the outer- space exotica field.
Describing the mystic impressions of an astronaut as he¿s trapped into serious trouble while orbiting¿ An unknown album even in Spain which will come as a big surprise to many a record collector. Another early 70s lost prog gem, another goldmine for beats and samples.
