Calico/Lore
“It's about time someone had some class around here.
Once a decorated member of The Baxter Society, Calico left the august order once she realized that killing monsters for free was less profitable than killing people for money.
Now an in demand contract killer, Calico is living her best life ending someone else's.
Overview
[edit | edit source]Calico's motivation in the ritual is vague, but she seems to be wishing for power and protection.[1][2]
Biography
[edit | edit source]Once a member of the Baxter Society, Calico was painted as a Judas for leaving the monster hunting organisation to pursue a career as an assassin.[3][4] With her skills gained from the Baxter Society, such as Return to Shadows,[5] Calico found herself to be an exceptional assassin, earning her the nickname "the most dangerous woman on the planet".[6][7] Calico once assassinated someone named "Siegfried" under Mirage's nose.[8]
Calico has been an assassin for at least 5 years, as she was hired to kill Pocket 5 years before the events of the ritual.[9] Pocket survived the assassination attempt due Calico's bullet missing their heart.[10] It's implied that this failed assassination earned Calico a reputation for "sloppy work" amongst other assassins, which she wasn't aware of.[11]
Now, Calico is being hunted by the International Police,[12] Scotland Yard,[13] and the OSIC.[14][15] While she has successfully evaded all of them so far, Calico has seemingly chosen to participate in the ritual to gain power and protection.[1][2] She also intends to "show off her product" by killing a Patron.[16] Calico has been waiting to summon the Patrons for a long time.[17]
Calico is consistently called "the black sheep" of the Baxter Society.[18][19] The Baxter Society doesn't seem to be after Calico.[20]
Calico has a son, who makes "terrible decisions" according to her.[21]
Though Calico's origin is unknown, she has a Received Pronunciation British accent.
Personality
[edit | edit source]Calico is a snob. She views herself as "superior" and classy and finds it important to surround herself with "disposable" people.[22][23][24] Calico believes that her allies should listen to her and do as she says.[25][26] A few characters view Calico as egotistical,[27][28] although Calico thinks that she's just honest with herself.[29]
Calico is very knowledgeable about a variety of topics, including the Deep,[30][31] the Troubadour,[32] and Oathkeeper.[33] She's implied to know something about Victor's origins.[34]
Calico doesn't seem to have loyalties to anyone,[35] and criticizes Warden for his "blind loyalty".[36] However, there is an implication that Calico does slightly miss the life she once had, as her "heart is cold, but it is not dead".[37] It's implied that Calico has dreams of her time at the Baxter Society.[38]
Character Relationships
[edit | edit source]Ava
[edit | edit source]Ava is Calico's Sphynx cat familiar.[39]
Calico adores Ava and refers to herself as "mummy" when talking to Ava.[40][41] She threatens anyone who may want to hurt or steal Ava.[42]
It's implied that Calico makes biscuits for Ava to eat.[43]
Pocket and Maximilian Fairfax
[edit | edit source]Calico was the assassin sent to kill Pocket 5 years before the events of the ritual.[9]
Calico enjoys "tying up loose ends" when she kills Pocket in-game.[44] She also mentions that Maximilian Fairfax will "have questions",[45] lining up with Pocket's belief that Maximilian Fairfax was the one who sent Calico to kill Pocket.
Pocket, naturally, dislikes Calico for almost killing them.[46][47]
Calico used to work with Grey Talon in the Baxter Society.
While Grey Talon is disappointed in Calico for becoming an assassin,[48] he doesn't resent her and was content to leave her alone.[20][49][50]
Calico views Grey Talon as a "relic of a bygone era",[51] but also says she will mourn his death if she kills him during the ritual.[52]
Venator knew Calico from when she was in the Baxter Society, but loathes her now that she's an assassin.[53]
Venator believes that, for the right price, Calico would be willing to kill Ava.[54]
When killing Calico, Venator mentions that it was "for Grey Talon".[55] He also references the 30 pieces of silver that Judas received for betraying Jesus when killing Calico, presumably referring to Calico leaving the Baxter Society.[56]
The Doorman is familiar with Calico and likes her.[57][58] He talks with her about "professional interests in town", likely meaning that Calico told him about her job as an assassin.[59]
The Doorman loves Ava and, in the event that Calico will be unable to take care of Ava anymore, says he'll treat her "like a queen" at the Baroness Hotel.[60][61]

Removed Lore
[edit | edit source]When Calico was first added to Hero Labs on October 24, 2024, she originally had a different background:
“Granted the dubious honor of being named Time Magazine's most dangerous woman on the planet, Calico is an enigmatic occult arms dealer that is willing to fund any and all sides of a conflict if the price is right. While her critics (and friends) would correctly identify her as being amoral, she is not without her principles... however cold and calculated those principles may be.
Calico's lore was updated when she officially officially released on January 17, 2025 to her current lore.
Neon Prime - Nano
