Celeste/Lore
Even in a world of magic, some things are still rare and unusual. So what is a unicorn to do? Announce her presence to the world and potentially have poachers looking to saw off her horn? Or hide in plain sight at a Coney Island Side Show where most folk would assume her appearance was just part of an act?
Over the years "The Dazzling Celeste" has grown into one of the more popular attractions on Coney, and while the applause from a cheering audience is appreciated; what keeps her waking up in the morning is the found family she's made at work.
Keruba the Mermaid.
Blockhead Lenny.
Chickenwing.
Ted.
These were her people. So when she discovered that one of her own sold part of their soul in order to cover a gambling debt, Celeste knew it was time to step out of the shadows and do whatever it takes to get it back. Is revealing her power to The Patrons a risk? Yes. But that's tomorrow's problem... her family needs help today.
Overview
[edit | edit source]Celeste's goal in the ritual is to save her friend who sold a piece of their own soul. Celeste also seems to want safety about being a unicorn.[1][2]
Biography
[edit | edit source]Not much is known about Celeste's life before joining the sideshow, although she has been hiding her identity as a unicorn her whole life.[3] It's implied she knows other unicorns, as she calls her powers "the mysteries of her people".[4] Celeste herself says she isn't divine, but she is powerful.[5] It's also implied that she's holding back her true powers.[6]
Celeste's existence as a unicorn is questioned by skeptics who don't believe unicorns are real.[7][8][9] Some of them believe that she glued a horn to her head.[10] Only her closest friends know her true identity as a unicorn.[2] It's currently unknown if unicorns look like humans or if Celeste is just using a disguise. Celeste says unicorns are supposed to be found in the woods.[11]
Celeste has frequently caused accidents and injuries when performing or training her acts.[12][13] She used to close kids' birthday parties with Light Eater until she faced multiple lawsuits, likely due to burning people with it.[14][15] Celeste used to be a regular at a glassblower's convention, although she stopped getting invited back after she added Shining Wonder to her set.[16] She frequently broke her friends' things while practicing Shining Wonder,[17] and ended up taking it out of her set after causing too many concussions.[18]
The Paradox Organisation have tried to steal Celeste's horn.[19] If Celeste is killed, Haze notes that the OSIC would want an autopsy.[20]
Celeste seems to have a Brooklyn accent.
Personality
[edit | edit source]Celeste hates hurting other people, expressing remorse when killing enemies.[21][22] She often tells other misfits that people like them and her need to stick together.[23][24]
Celeste likes being on the sideshow, and thinks it's a comfortable life.[25][26] She often suggests to other characters that they come to the circus after the ritual.[27][28][29] Celeste occasionally offers people a job at the sideshow.[30][31]
Celeste likes to compliment other women, often commenting on their appearance.[32][33][34] Celeste doesn't like when people she finds pretty try to kill her (which is implied to have happened before).[35]
Celeste is scared about revealing her identity as a unicorn to the public.[36] However, she also feels tired of hiding her whole life,[3] believes that the secret was going to get out sooner or later,[37] and while she loves Coney Island, she feels like she's outgrown it.[26] While her nature as a unicorn is a secret to the world and, for the most part, her allies,[38][39] the enemy heroes in the ritual know that she's a unicorn.[40]
Celeste loves her jacket and thinks it's "awesome".[41]
Appearance
[edit | edit source]Celeste appears as a skinny white woman. It's currently unknown if she also has a horse-like unicorn form. Her neck is elongated, and she has a gap in her front teeth. Her face and hair are covered with makeup, usually being stars and glitter. She wears large star-patterned earrings and has a large, glowing unicorn horn coming out of her forehead, that glows as she gains Radiant Daggers stacks. Her hair is a gradiant of blue, pink and purple tied into a huge twisting ponytail that extends to her waist. Celeste wears two small neckscarves: the inner one being blue and the outer one being red. Celeste's weapon is a baton with a similar pattern to her horn.
She wears a white, pink and blue acrobat outfit with purple details, a loose black jacket with spikes on her sleeves, fingerless purple gloves, and high-heeled black boots with unicorn horn-patterned heels.
Celeste's body is covered in monocromatic tattoos, alluding to tattooed ladies who worked as sideshow attractions in the 19th and 20th centuries. The designs of the tattoos include horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, stars, unicorns jumping through fiery hoops, ice creams, harps, carousels, and a poodle wearing a birthday hat.
Celeste's fingernails are each painted a different colour.
Character Relationships
[edit | edit source]Blockhead Lenny is one of Celeste's found family members.
Celeste dislikes Lash for beating Lenny in the Bear Pit.[42]
It's implied that Lenny is the friend who sold his soul.[43]
Celeste is close friends with Mo and Krill.[44]
While on opposing teams, Celeste says people like her and Mo were supposed to stick together.[24] Additionally, Mo wants to cry if he kills Celeste.[45]
Krill tells Celeste that she doesn't need to spend her life hiding in a circus, likely meaning that they knew she was a unicorn before the ritual.[46]
Abrams is friends with Celeste and her found family. He knows Blockhead Lenny is having troubles and asks Celeste how he's doing.[47]
Abrams seems to be one of the few people outside of Celeste's family who knows she's secretly a unicorn.[11]
Infernus and Hank
[edit | edit source]Infernus is friends with Celeste and her found family. Celeste invites Infernus to come over to say hi to her family at the sideshow.[48]
Celeste refers to Infernus as "Fern".[31] She's also familiar with Hank and asks Infernus how Hank is holding up.[49]
Wraith has a marker on someone named "Dutch", who seems to be a friend of Celeste as she demands Wraith to forget the marker.[50]
While Celeste isn't fond of Wraith, she does think she's "pretty charming".[51]
