Born to criminal royalty, Kaori and her brother Yamato always knew they were destined to run The 7th Moon after their father's passing. For years they ran the organization as equals; leading to profit, success, and plans for expansion to the United States.

The idea was simple. Kaori would stay in Japan and maintain things at home, while Yamato would travel to America to set up an international presence. Unfortunately for the siblings; this plan didn't sit well with some of their more insecure underlings, who bristled at the idea of being led by Kaori in Japan.

The coup was swift and violent. Yamato gave his life protecting Kaori, but in doing so ensured that she and a handful of loyalists were able to escape Japan for America.

When she arrived stateside, the contact her brother was supposed to meet greeted her and her retinue. Unfamiliar with the gender of Japanese names, the man addressed her as Yamato. She thought to correct him, but decided that the best way to keep her brother's memory alive was to take his name and live out his dream.

Overview

Yamato's wish in the ritual is to make the Seventh Moon powerful enough to take over New York. She also hopes to solidify her brother's legacy, as she is still grieving his death.

Yamato predominantly speaks Japanese, although she also knows how to speak English.

Biography

Born into a Japanese crime syndicate, Kaori used to lead the Seventh Moon with her brother, Yamato, before a brutal coup took his life and forced her out of the country. The coup occured because several of the Seventh Moon's underlings didn't think Kaori was fit to lead them. Arriving in New York less than a year before the Maelstrom, Kaori met with her brother's contact in America, who misidentified Kaori as Yamato. Deciding to keep her brother's memory alive, "Yamato" took up her brother's name and began rebuilding the Seventh Moon in New York.

In the current day, the Seventh Moon has become an infamous street gang. Leading the organization by example, Yamato seeks to control people and places she believes will bring her closer to taking over New York. She currently wants to speak to someone named "Molly Molenzo", a woman incarcerated at Rikers Island who got stabbed by Vyper. While the Seventh Moon is still growing, the organisation's power in New York is only a fraction of what it once was in Japan, and Yamato herself is in a "life of exile". There are supposedly people in Japan who are still hunting Yamato. Now, Yamato seeks the Patrons to ensure her rule over New York and to solidify her brother's legacy.

The sword Yamato uses is an ancient heirloom. She inherited it when her predecessor died, and someone else will inherit it when she dies.

It's implied that Shadow Transformation is a power Yamato inherited from her family.

Personality

Yamato is the ruthless leader of the Seventh Moon, and leads the organization by example. She once murdered someone for owing the Seventh Moon a "C-Note" ($100). She often attempts to threaten her teammates to get them to obey her. Yamato also takes great offence from the enemy team fighting her, intending to exact revenge for their "rudeness".

Yamato is cruel and antagonistic to most other heroes. This generally goes unnoticed, since none of them speak Japanese, which she is aware of.

Yamato is commonly described as "scary". She doesn't remember or keep track of how many people she has killed, which she perceives as a virtue.

Yamato respects elders and skilled fighters. She also believes family is important. She's still grieving her brother's death and has allegedly "overcome grief and betrayal" to participate in the ritual.

Appearance

Yamato's current model is inherited from Neon Prime. She's a tall cyborg-like Japanese woman with gray skin, fully black eyes, long tied purple hair, and a tall forehead. Her limbs have robotic joints. She wears a chest plate and arm plates of golden samurai armor and a purple skirt, and carries two futuristic samurai swords.

Yoshi has shared multiple concept art for a possible Yamato redesign that matches her new backstory.

Yamato (brother)

Yamato loved her brother, and now wants to honor his name and believes that he's watching her in the afterlife.

Shadow Transformation is implied to infuse Yamato with her brother's soul.

Wraith

The Seventh Moon is rivals with Wraith's criminal organization.

Yamato views Wraith as her main hurdle towards conquering New York. She also hopes to take over Wraith's business.

While on the same team, Yamato intends to betray Wraith later.

• Yamato respects Grey Talon for his age and skill. She also acknowledges Apollo's potential.
• Yamato wants to turn Mo into a coat and Krill into a hat.
• Yamato likes Paige, likening her to a "puppy that pisses on the rug: stupid, yet strangely endearing".
• Yamato thanks Ivy for taking care of Mendoza. However, she also undermines Ivy's skill and says she wants to take over Spanish Harlem for the Seventh Moon.

In Neon Prime, Yamato had children. Her father is also mentioned, and it is believed that he was the character Ghost/Spectre, who became Lady Geist.

A popular fan rumor is that Yamato in Neon Prime was an alien obsessed with Japanese culture. This rumor is incorrect, based on what is known about her character and faction from old voice lines and the Neon Prime lore document.
