The Baxter Society saved my life, and now I'm gonna save yours.

A loyal member of "The Baxter Society", an international order of monster hunters, Shiv travels across North America looking to put down creatures that prey on the living.

While his less polished nature and criminal past make some of the more traditional members of the Society wary, no one can deny his effectiveness.

Overview

Shiv is fighting in the ritual on behalf of the Baxter Society. His wish is unknown, but Shiv's motivation is to prove his worth to Grey Talon and the Baxter Society.

Biography

Shiv's criminal past is described as "bloody" and "tortured", and according to those who knew him at the time, he did horrible things.

Shiv claims that the Baxter Society "saved his life", and his change of heart seems to be genuine, though others still don't trust him or believe he deserves redemption.

Shiv was chosen by Grey Talon as his replacement in the Baxter Society. Shiv has been in the Baxter Society for "a few years" and feels that he's still not respected by the other members, fearing that they may turn on him. It's implied that Shiv feels lonely.

Shiv mentions that the Baxter Society have "their own problems" at the time of the ritual, which is why they aren't currently after the Troubadour. While their exact problems are unknown, Shiv tells Holliday that "if we don't clean up our own house you'll be wishing for Troubadour-sized problems".

Shiv allegedly "took something that doesn't belong to him".

Shiv is referred to as a biker.

Personality

Shiv takes pride in his appearance, especially with his hair. He claims that he doesn't need to do his pompadour as he "wakes up looking this pretty". Other characters often compliment Shiv's hair.

Shiv loves knives, and appreciates quality bladework. He's also enthusiastic about stabbing things. Characters are often skeptical of Shiv's skills as an "amateur" in the Baxter Society, but he's confident in his own abilities.

Shiv enjoys drinking bourbon and frequents Jezebel's. He intends to get a drink with his allies after the ritual if he wins. Shiv also enjoys bowling.

Shiv hates cats.

Appearance

Shiv appears as a slender young man with reddish skin, black eyes, thick eyebrows, a tall black pompadour, and sideburns. He has a wooden prosthetic right arm that is longer than his real arm, with a metal hand. He wears a white shirt with a brown strap to carry his gun, a skin-tone undershirt, red pants, a brown belt, beige heeled shoes with brown soles, a brown fingerless glove, and carries a bomber jacket on his left arm. He carries a gray amulet with a red glass on his hip (seemingly inspired by the blood key from the movie Demon Knight), that glows red when Shiv is at full Rage. His weapon is a square shotgun with a foldable knife attached that he uses with Killing Blow. He is considered attractive.

Information

Shiv's weapon name, the Busted Flush, is a hand in Poker of four cards of the same suit (colour and type) and one of a different suit. It's also an expression referring to a promising thing that ends up failing its potential.

Grey Talon

Grey Talon chose Shiv to act as his replacement in the Baxter Society.

Grey Talon has high hopes for Shiv, despite his criminal past, and holds him in high regard, placing Shiv in the top 8 of people he'd want fighting alongside him.

One of Shiv's goals in the ritual is to prove his worth to Grey Talon.

Drifter

Drifter knew Shiv before he joined the Baxter Society. If he kills Shiv, he calls him a "disappointment" and mentions that killing him feels "Shakespearean". He also mentions that, had Shiv not "put himself in a muzzle, maybe he'd be worried". When hunting Shiv, he refers to himself as an "old friend". How Shiv and Drifter met each other is unknown.

Silver

Silver loathes Shiv with a passion and refuses to believe he could change from his criminal past. She believes he deserves a fate worse than death.

Silver can't believe Grey Talon stood up for Shiv.

How Silver and Shiv met each other and why Silver hates Shiv is currently unknown.

Venator

Venator doesn't believe in Shiv's change of heart, waiting for him to slip up and ruin his "charade".

Venator is puzzled by Grey Talon's choice of protégé and believes that Shiv should be dead. He warns Grey Talon that, if Shiv slips up, he won't be able to protect Shiv from the Swords of Saint Benedict.

Character Interactions

• Multiple characters compliment Shiv's appearance, calling him "pretty boy", "handsome bastard", "impossibly handsome asshole", and a "shampoo ad with knives".
• Shiv respects Holliday and offers her a place at the Baxter Society. If they're on opposing teams, Shiv promises to kill the Troubadour on Holliday's behalf. Shiv loves Holliday's hat.
• Shiv respects Lash's moxie.
• Lady Geist calls Shiv attractive and asks to have a drink with him after the ritual.
• Ivy expresses admiration for Shiv. McGinnis wants to talk to Shiv and "fix him". Yamato will simply remark "nice hair".
• Haze and Vyper respect Shiv's taste in knives.

Removed Lore

• In removed voice lines, the Patrons said that Shiv "had been" a father and had a "monster inside him" called "The Beast". These lines were removed in the Old Gods, New Blood update.
• Infernus used to call Shiv a "blood mage".
