Weissert walked one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his third save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Mariners. All three of the right-hander's saves have come since June 10, but the first two opportunities arose while Aroldis Chapman was getting a rest due to a heavy workload. That wasn't the case Wednesday -- Chapman pitched the eighth inning and faced the top of the Seattle order, while Weissert was called on the retire the 4-5-6 hitters for the M's and got the job done thanks to a double play grounder from Dominic Canzone. Weissert seems to have earned the trust of manager Alex Cora, and over his last 15.2 innings dating back to May 16, the 30-year-old reliever has a 1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB with a win and eight holds in addition to his recent batch of saves.

Latest Red Sox News
Gregory Weissert : Notches another save
Garrett Crochet : Fans eight in seventh win
Crochet (7-4) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in a 3-1 victory over the Mariners. He struck out eight without walking a batter. The southpaw recorded his 10th quality start of the season on 96 pitches (70 strikes), including 17 swinging strikes. Crochet has provided the Red Sox with at least six inning in five straight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's delivered a 2.65 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 47:6 K:BB through 34 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Angels.
Alexander Bregman : Will get tested out Wednesday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Bregman (quad) will undergo testing Wednesday to see where he's at strength-wise and to determine what's next in his progression, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Recovering from a right quad strain, Bregman resumed running in early June but noted last week he is running at only about 50 percent intensity. It's possible he'll receive the go-ahead Wednesday to accelerate his rehab, but the Red Sox should have more on the third baseman's status later this week. Bregman could skip a rehab assignment, but even if that happens he does not appear close to returning.
Jordan Hicks : Throwing live BP on Thursday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Hicks (toe) will throw a live batting practice session Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Cora wasn't sure what the next step for Hicks would be after facing hitters Thursday, though he did indicate the hurler would need a rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list. Acquired from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade, Hicks has been shelved since early June with right toe inflammation. He was moved to the bullpen by the Giants in mid-May and presumably will be in line for a relief role in Boston.
Kutter Crawford : Resumes mound work
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Crawford (knee/wrist) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will throw another one Friday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Crawford reverted back to playing catch after a recent bullpen session didn't go well, but he has now resumed mound work. The right-hander will continue to ramp things back up as he eyes a rehab assignment.
Connor Wong : Filling in for resting Narvaez
Wong will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners. Though he'll get the start behind the dish in the series finale, Wong doesn't appear to be making a serious push to supplant Carlos Narvaez as the Red Sox's No. 1 catcher. Narvaez has produced a .917 OPS since the beginning of May, while Wong is slashing just .179/.289/.179 over that same stretch of action.
David Hamilton : Drawing third straight start
Hamilton will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Hamilton will pick up his third consecutive start at the keystone and has been an early beneficiary of Sunday's trade that sent Rafael Devers to San Francisco. His playing time could begin to dry up by the weekend, however, as the Red Sox are preparing to welcome another everyday player in Wilyer Abreu (oblique) from the injured list. Abreu's return will create a logjam in the outfield that could result in Roman Anthony seeing more starts at designated hitter and Kristian Campbell moving back to second base.
Carlos Narvaez : Out of Wednesday’s lineup
Narvaez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Seattle. Narvaez started at catcher in both of the first two games of the series, so he'll get a breather in Wednesday's matinee. Connor Wong will fill in behind the dish and bat ninth for the Red Sox.
