The Rockets intend to bring back Green on a new contract, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Green played in 32 games during the 2024-25 season. The 38-year-old forward averaged career-low numbers in points (5.4), rebounds (1.8) and minutes per game (12.4). However, Houston appears to value his veteran presence on the bench and in the locker room. The Rockets are expected to be a title contender in the Western Conference next season after making a blockbuster trade with the Suns to acquire Kevin Durant while sending Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to Phoenix.

Latest Rockets News
Jeff Green : Expected to re-sign with Houston
The Rockets intend to bring back Green on a new contract, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Green played in 32 games during the 2024-25 season. The 38-year-old forward averaged career-low numbers in points (5.4), rebounds (1.8) and minutes per game (12.4). However, Houston appears to value his veteran presence on the bench and in the locker room. The Rockets are expected to be a title contender in the Western Conference next season after making a blockbuster trade with the Suns to acquire Kevin Durant while sending Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to Phoenix.
Aaron Holiday : Expected to remain in Houston
The Rockets intend to bring back Holiday on a new deal, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Holiday played in 62 games during the 2024-25 season, averaging 5.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from beyond the arc. Houston has been aggressive in its attempt to be a legitimate title contender next season, with the team bringing in Kevin Durant. Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks were traded to the Suns as part of the deal, which could result in Holiday playing a more significant role in Houston during the 2025-26 campaign.
Jae'Sean Tate : Expected to re-sign with Houston
The Rockets intend to bring back Tate (ankle) on a new contract, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Tate played in 52 games for Houston during the 2024-25 campaign. Even though he saw a decrease in playing time this past season, the 29-year-old could see a bump in minutes after the team acquired Kevin Durant and parted ways with Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. Tate averaged a career-low 3.6 points and 2.3 rebounds across 11.3 minutes per game.
Fred VanVleet : To sign two-year deal with Houston
VanVleet will sign a two-year, $50 million contract with the Rockets, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. In order to do this, the Rockets will officially decline VanVleet's $44.9 million team option for 2025-26. His new two-year deal will include a player option for 2026-27. A reunion always seems like the most likely outcome, with both sides seemingly motivated to get this done right away. In 60 regular-season contests in 2024-25, VanVleet shot just 37.8 percent from the field with averages of 14.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds.
Fred VanVleet : Rockets to decline option
The Rockets are expected to decline VanVleet's $44.9 million option, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports. This has always been the most likely scenario for VanVleet. However, both sides have mutual interest in a reunion, and Iko notes that they are in discussions for a multi-year contract extension. Assuming he sticks around, VanVleet will have a new weapon to play alongside in Houston's offense, as Kevin Durant is making his way to Houston with Jalen Green heading the opposite direction.
Kevin Durant : Traded to Houston
The Rockets have acquired Durant in a trade with the Suns, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. After the 2024-25 season came to a close for the Suns, Phoenix and Durant agreed to part ways and work on a trade heading into the offseason. A lot of teams became potential destinations for the superstar forward, but in the end, Houston won the KD sweepstakes by sending Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and six draft picks to Phoenix. The Suns will now have the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft as well as five second-round picks. During the 2024-25 campaign, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game, shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the arc.
Steven Adams : Signs three-year extension
The Rockets have agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract extension with Adams, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Adams was expected to be a hot commodity in free agency this summer after having an impressive showing in the NBA playoffs. The Rockets value what the veteran center brings to the table and got an extension done before he could test free agency in July. In seven games during the postseason, Adams averaged 5.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 60 percent from the field.
Steven Adams : Struggles in Game 7
Adams ended with three points (1-4 FG, 1-2 FT) and seven rebounds over 26 minutes during Sunday's 103-89 loss to the Warriors in Game 7 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Adams had a strong series overall, but couldn't make a significant impact Sunday with the Rockets attempting to utilize a frontcourt-heavy rotation. Adams was used sparingly in the regular season, playing an average of 13.7 minutes per night in 58 appearances with 3.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Adams is likely to generate considerable interest from contending teams as a free agent this offseason.
