MASAYUKI TAKAYANAGI "ACTION DIRECT" (ALM-URANOIA, 1985)

Already some months on my posting-list Nick has provided us with a surprise!

This is noise/industrial or whatever you may call it - long before such a monicker was used as a reference for a musical style.

A remarkable experience - played by:

MASAHIKO TOGASHI & MASAYUKI TAKAYANAGI "PULSATION" (PADDLE WHEEL, 1983)

UPDATE: New rip from another LP courtesy of Nick. Links see comment no. 16..........

The collaboration between Masayuki Takayanagi and Masahiko Togashi yields some music which is quite special for both discographies. They never played in such a manner before or after.
Note: The rip has a continous buzzing and during the quieter parts a kind of crackling. I tried to remove it - but to no avail. Yet it is still a good listen (sonically) and a marvellous achievement by the musicians (musically!!).
Hopefully it will see a proper reissue...

Enjoy!

MASAYUKI TAKAYANAGI "FREE FORM SUITE" (THREE BLIND MICE, 1972)

As my reservoir on Masahiko Togashi (deleted ones) comes almost to an end, I'll continue the japanese series with another great master.
As far as I know most recordings of Masayuki Takayanagi are available. I got this CD from a Company in Hamburg which sells tea. Let's have a mouthful.
"Free Form Suite" is a mixed bag insofar as there is a more "traditional" part - the first three tracks - and than a more powerful part called "Free Form Suite".
Not his most ferocious music - but listen for yourself.

In Germany there is an idiomatic expression which goes roughly ... "on one foot there is no good standing".

I found the second foot some days ago.

Masayuki Takayanagi & Kaoru Abe "Mass Projection" & "Gradually Projection" (1970, DIW-424/425) FLAC

Here are two of Abe's earliest recordings, dating from 1970. Takayanagi plays electric guitar and Abe alto sax, a Japanese flute called shakuhachi (used here with a reed) and on the second disc bass clarinet and harmonica (!) are added. Note that in order to recreate the original schedule of the concert, the Gradually Projection disc should be played between the two pieces of the Mass Projection disc.
Anyway, I'd recommend to listen first to Gradually Projection as it is the less agressive of the two (with particularly beautiful bass clarinet work) ... Mass Projection can be filed under the "very hardcore" etiquette so be prepared. Take a look at this screenshot of the disc's two tracks opened in Sound Forge which should give you a good idea [http://i29.tinypic.com/i6au02.jpg]. Hehe.

To conclude, here's a link to informative reviews of Abe records written in the Opprobrium magazine, with a piece on Mass Projection [http://tinyurl.com/2omz36] and a link to a discography [http://tinyurl.com/3xvubx].

Enjoy,
Pierre

PS : I am looking for the "Live at Gaya" box set, so please get in touch if you can help !
