CECIL TAYLOR - BLUE NOTES - MANFRED SCHOOF - MISHA MENGELBERG - THEO LOEVENDIE "FRANCE - ANTIBES+" (1964-69)

This is not music or more exactly it is music but with footage from the respective concerts.
Culled from the French TV.

Among others we have the first concert of the Blue Notes in Europe, just arriving from South-Africa. After the concert and some weeks playing in Antibes at the beach (and elsewhere) they embarked to Zürich were they got offered Dollar Brand's place at the Cafe Africana.

The movie (~ 1:40) is not in high definition but the quality is easily good enough to enjoy these concerts and in case of Taylor's Unit something rather special.

THEO LOEVENDIE CONSORT "ANTIBES, 1969"

Here's a short recording by Theo Loevendie's Consort from Antibes previously offered in some comments or in the contributions section.

It was recorded the same year as the Blue Notes (in Antibes) after they left South Africa.
From both groups there was a french TV footage but apparently it has been deleted from youtube.
Which may not have a whole lot to do with this recording but it seemed like a good place to start....

BERND ALOIS ZIMMERMANN "REQUIEM FÜR EINEN JUNGEN DICHTER" (LINGUAL 1967-1969)

Although a good portion of the texts are in german it is an overhwelming listening experience (IMHO) also for non-german speakers. Sometimes the words are not clearly audible - wether german or in another language. But it doesn't diminish the impact of the score - au contraire
Since I discovered B.A. Zimmermann (about ten years ago) seriously, he has become one of my favourite composers. A friend of mine made me aware about the LP I post here - it was released not by a label but through the association of the german industries - or better its cultural society.

I was lucky enough to find it several days ago - and what a find...still the music is resonating.

Enjoy!

THEO LOEVENDIE THREE "STUDIO RADIO VARA, HILVERSUM 1967"

With all the recent postings of Theo Loevendie, I thought I'd hit the archives to seek out this set from 1967 which was aired on Dutch radio. A trio setting, Loevendie tripling on soprano sax, bass clarinet and piano. This was one of many tidbits from the early days of European free jazz uploaded to Dime in late 2007 by "sammler KK". A true treasure trove of rarities. More to come!
