Steve Hunter started playing guitar when he was eight years old and has dedicated his life to music. His professional career began in the winter of 1971 when he joined a band called ‘Detroit featuring Mitch Ryder’. With that band he recorded his first ever album and the producer of that album was Bob Ezrin.

A mutual respect developed almost immediately between Bob and Steve and over the course of the next few years they worked on several projects together including 4 Alice Cooper albums, Peter Gabriel’s first solo album which included ‘Solsbury Hill’, and Lou Reed’s ‘Berlin’ album. He later toured with all of the above-mentioned artists as well as touring and/or recording with Julian Lennon, performed with Bette Midler in the movie ‘The Rose’, co-wrote and recorded songs with David Lee Roth, toured and recorded with Tracy Chapman and was involved in scoring films and music production.

This CD is a departure from Steve’s rock past but encompasses his unique style of blues and finger picking, with his ever present passion for music and with Bob Ezrin as Executive Producer. ‘Hymns for Guitar’ is Steve’s acoustic guitar arrangements of some of his favorite old American hymns. Many of these great melodies were written in the mid 1800s. “When I was a very little boy....maybe 4 or 5 years old...my grandmother would occasionally take me to Sunday church with her. I always enjoyed the sound of people gently and quietly singing those beautiful old hymns. My main goal was to try to recreate the warm, peaceful sound with acoustic guitars that I had heard as a boy in church.

"Before The Lights Go Out" is long time Alice Cooper/Lou Reed Guitarist Steve Hunter's latest solo album. The cover art and title make a statement about his failing eyesight, but don't make the mistake of thinking this is a quiet wave goodbye. As soon as you put on the first track, you will know that this is more like a Blues Rock Declaration of Independence! There are sexy grooves, luscious guitar tones and melodies galore.

As with all Hunter's releases, there is some diversity and sound imagery, not least of which is Tienes Mi Corazón where alongside his nylon string improvisation comes the sound of his own heart. And listen out for Joe Satriani adding his fire to the heat of "Mojo Man."

Also joining Steve on a couple of tracks are two great Bass players: Erik Scott can be heard on "Mojo Man," Erik is also an Alice Cooper alumni. On "Under The Bodhi Tree" is Andy Stoller. Steve and Andy toured together with Tracy Chapman during the "Telling Stories" album period, most recently Andy has been touring with Ann Wilson of Heart.

Steve Hunter is his own man; he has been around the block with a forty-five year career.

From his 1973 solos on Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies" album, his legendary acoustic work on Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill," his "Intro" to Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane" and his searing opening solos on Aerosmith's version of "Train Kept A Rolling" Most recently he can be heard on Alice Cooper's 2017 album "Paranormal" making this his ninth Cooper album appearance. The Deacon is not done yet but his life is evolving! He has challenges playing live now but his honed skill, tone, power and soul, is dished up on this hot plate of guitar driven instrumental tastiness.

Steve Hunter has been contributing his expertise, style and tone to other people’s albums for over 40 years. Starting with Mitch Ryder in 1971 and moving on to record and or tour with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Julian Lennon, Bette Midler and Tracy Chapman to name a few.

He has had a longstanding working relationship and friendship with legendary record producer Bob Ezrin since those early albums, which continues today. From unforgettable tracks such as ‘Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel), ‘Train Kept Rolling’ (Aerosmith) and ‘Intro to Sweet Jane’ (Lou Reed).

Steve has recorded four albums under his own name: ‘Swept Away’ ‘The Deacon’ ‘Short Stories’ and Hymns For Guitar’. The latter two can be currently found on most major online stores.

Most recently Steve has featured heavily on the new Alice Cooper album ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’ a successor to the hugely successful ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ released in 1975 and also completed a world tour with Alice during 2011.

‘Short Stories’ is a collection of instrumentals full of mood and color.

“I have always admired authors such as O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe for their ability to tell an amazing tale in a very few words. I am also a big fan of the old Twilight Zone series for the same reason. With “Short Stories” I’ve tried to do something similar only with music. Most of the songs on the CD are 3 minutes or less in length but I wanted each one to tell its own little story. I also think of each piece as a “sound picture”, projecting an aural image as well as telling a story. I hope you enjoy my collection of “Short Stories”.
