Reeves Gabrels - Ulysses (Della Notte) (Re-post)

Reeves Gabrels - Ulysses (Della Notte) - 1999

ULYSSES (Della Notte) was the second full-length solo album for Gabrels. It appeared originally in 1999 as a then-pioneering digital-only release that comprised eight songs and won a Yahoo! Internet award. E-Magine Entertainment then put it out on CD in 2000, adding a ninth track. After a hiatus of several years in availability, the rights reverted to the artist and the album is now being offered again for digital download and on CD.

Gabrels' inventive style on guitar and ironic style in writing songs--with lyrics by turns acerbic, by turns sweet--both shine in this recording. ULYSSES (Della Notte) is first and foremost a collection of finely crafted songs, all of which organically incorporate genre-bending, mind-bending guitar playing as well. All nine songs feature Gabrels on vocals, and some in addition include notable guest appearances by talented musical colleagues.

"Jewel" is one of these special tracks: it combines vocals by Gabrels with Frank Black (Pixies), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and David Bowie. "Yesterday's Gone" is a beautiful ballad sung by Robert Smith of The Cure and representing a dreamy songwriting collaboration for Gabrels and Smith, who at the time were simply friends. It would take another fifteen years for then to become band mates.

Reeves Gabrels & Bill Nelson - Fantastic Guitars

Reeves Gabrels & Bill Nelson - Fantastic Guitars - 2014

Long time David Bowie collaborator and now lead guitarist of The Cure, Reeves Gabrels, has been a friend of Bill Nelson for over 20 years. During that time a collaboration has often been discussed but it was only recently that serious plans were made for the two guitarists to record together. The result is 'Fantastic Guitars,' an album of guitar instrumentals that marries their playing in a unique and exciting way. If you love electric guitars they don't get more astonishingly electric than this!

David Tronzo & Reeves Gabrels - Night in Amnesia

David Tronzo & Reeves Gabrels - Night in Amnesia - 1995

Between slide guru David Tronzo and ex-Tin Machine-ist Reeves Gabrels, a strange, juicy chemistry takes place here on Night In Amnesia. Experimentalists who also know how to party, they flit between instruments and genres, now with a tilting boogie, then veering toward abstraction.

All the music on this albums was composed spontaneously as it was being recorded. This was the first meeting between Reeves and Tronzo.

Doom Dogs (Reeves Gabrels & Jair-Rohm Parker Wells) - Personal Nuclear Assault

Doom Dogs (Reeves Gabrels & Jair-Rohm Parker Wells) - Personal Nuclear Assault - 2000

01. Portrait of Girl with the Tin Machine Gun
02. The Wolves of Winterthur
03. Pock a Way Goes Off
04. Preamble to a Scramble
05. I Saw Myself Standing
06. Ayler's Love
07. Knit Knot
08. Muffy Meets the African Prince
09. My Baby Left Me
10. Silicon Desire
11. Where Cultures Collide

Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends - Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends - 2015

Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends are a Nashville-based power trio fronted by “one of the most daring rock-guitar improvisers since Jimi Hendrix"(www.guitar.com) who also sings, writes and produces. Each song is its own adventure when Reeves and friends perform. Originals and co-writes have sharp lyrics and well-made melodies set in rich soundscapes. Selected rock and blues covers are re-imagined in sometimes-wild ways. One Gabrels lyric says it all: “Let me bend your ear, and your mind a little too.”

Reeves Gabrels is an American guitarist, currently touring internationally with The Cure (since summer 2012), one of Britain's best-known alternative rock bands. Gabrels is known for his long partnership with British singer David Bowie, with whom he worked regularly as guitarist, bandmate, co-writer and co-producer from 1987 to 1999. Reeves Gabrels ‎– Rockonica

Reeves Gabrels ‎– Rockonica - 2004

Reeves Gabrels, a Grammy-nominated guitarist/songwriter/producer best known for both his work with David Bowie and his aggressive guitar style that combines the visceral energy of rock, the harmonic sophistication of jazz, the emotional honesty of blues and country, and an ear for the unusual. A furious cut-and-paster in the studio and an evil genius of atonal improvisation on stage Gabrels explores sonic extremes with a great, adaptive intuition for what each song needs most. He shows that his limitless technical and compositional skills can still shine without restraint.

Guitar Player's Editor In Chief, Michael Molenda says. "Gabrels is one of those guitar players that, quite simply, redefine guitar craft a bona fide 21st-century guitar god who deserves massive amounts of Justin Timberlake-style fame."

He will go down as one of the true originals in the guitar-hero pantheon, even as his fusion of fretwork and computer processing questions and redefines that instrument's very place in the rock canon. Among those who know him at all, he is either loved or hated but never ignored; this alone guarantees his staying power. You'll be hearing a lot more from him -- whether or not you know it's him you're hearing.

Reeves has also contributed music for film work by famed director David Lynch, and other bands and artists such as The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Brian Eno, Ozzy Osbourne, The Rolling Stones, Public Enemy and Natalie Imbruglia
