Various Artists - MusiCares Tribute to Dolly Parton, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 2-8-2019

Here's another MusiCares tribute concert. This one honors Dolly Parton.

I'm running out of MusiCares concerts to post. (I only have one more after this.) The problem is, these annual concerts have small audiences who have to pay big donations to get in, plus there are metal detectors. So audience bootlegs are almost unheard of. The reason we have a worthy recording of this one is that it was broadcast as a one-hour special on Netflix. I streamed the audio from that, and cut it into mp3s. Let's hope this isn't a one-off and other MusiCares will come out in similar ways.

This concert followed the usual format: guest stars singing covers of songs by the person being honored, then that person giving an acceptance speech, then that person playing a couple of songs. In this case though, it seems Parton only sang one song at the end.

Unfortunately, this album is quite short for such concerts at less than an hour. That's because some songs were not included in the Netflix special, and I couldn't find them elsewhere. I know at least Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sang a duet version of  "Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You." I'm not sure if there are others. (As usual, if anyone has any of the missing songs, please let me know so I can include them.)

I also found it a bit surprising that Emmylou Harris didn't sing a song, since she was there. She and Linda Ronstadt gave a short introduction speech for Parton. Perhaps she did sing, and that's another missing song. Or it could be she didn't sing out of respect for Linda Ronstadt, who gave the introduction speech with her, but can no longer sing due to troubles with her vocal chords. Since Parton, Harris, and Ronstadt recorded two "Trio" albums together, it might have been rough on Ronstadt seeing the other two sing but not her. I don't know, that's just a guess.

At least what we have here has excellent sound quality.

UPDATE: On February 19, 2026, I updated the mp3 download file. When I first posted this, it was missing "Jolene," performed by Pink. In my original notes, I commented that this was a shame, because that's one of Parton's signature songs, along with "I Will Always Love You." But a kind person sent me this missing song. Unfortunately, the sound quality is rougher than the rest. Also, it got cut off at the end. The person who sent me the song said it was taped off the TV, and that's when the broadcast ended, so maybe that's all that's available. As a result, I put it at the end. I did my best to improve the sound quality. I used the MVSEP program to split the vocals from the rest and then I ran the vocal through a Reverb Removal filter. That helped a lot, but still, there was only so much I could do.

This album is 50 minutes long.

Various Artists - MusiCares Tribute to Paul McCartney, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 2-10-2012

Here's another MusiCares tribute show. This one celebrates Paul McCartney's music career. It's a bit short as far as these types of concerts go, but what's here is very good.

The usual format for these kinds of tribute concerts is a series of stars sing covers by the performer being honored, then there's an acceptance speech, and then the performer plays a couple of songs at the end. That's how this one went as well, except Paul McCartney performed two songs at the beginning as well as three at the end.

Actually, he did one more: a cover of "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" performed as a duet with Diana Krall. However, this is sourced from a DVD, and that wasn't included, so I don't have it here. Also, Katy Perry sang "Hey Jude," and the Foo Fighters sang "Jet," and those aren't here either, for the same reason. If anyone has those missing songs, please let me know and I'll be happy to add them in.

Additionally, Cirque du Soleil started the concert with a medley of "Get Back," "Hello Goodbye," and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." But I edited that out because it was a visual performance done to the record versions.

What's here is pretty great though, which isn't shocking considering McCartney was one of the best and possibly the most commercially successful songwriters of all time. Particularly interesting is the finale, a version of the Beatles medley "Golden Slumbers - Carry That Weight - The End" with McCartney, Joe Walsh, and Dave Grohl dueling on guitars.

As mentioned above, this has been officially released on DVD. However, there have been no audio releases. The sound quality is excellent.

This album is 54 minutes long.

01 talk (emcee)
02 Magical Mystery Tour (Paul McCartney)
03 Junior's Farm (Paul McCartney)

Various Artists- MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 1-29-2010

So far, I've posted three MusiCares tribute concerts. I recently got a request to post this one honoring Neil Young sooner rather than later, so here it is. I still have five more to post after this, so look for those eventually as well.

Tons of talented stars showed up to sing their favorite Neil Young songs. There's a lot of great music here. Unfortunately, there's also some that's missing. This comes from a DVD of the event. Generally speaking, only a small crowd of the rich and famous attend these MusiCares concerts, so bootlegs of them are very rare. We know from media accounts that three songs were performed that weren't included on the DVD. Those are:

"Long May You Run" by Stephen Stills & Sheryl Crow
"Comes a Time" by Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin & Lucinda Williams
"A Man Needs a Maid" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

If anyone has any of those so I can add them, please let me know. I found a video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers song recorded on a cell phone and posted on YouTube, but the sound quality is terrible. I'm guessing a lot of the banter between songs was cut out as well. Actor Jack Black was the emcee, but he's not really heard at all in the recording.

Typically, the person honored in these tributes performs a couple of songs at the end of the concert. But while Neil Young was there, and gave a short speech, it seems he didn't perform any songs.

Here's a good account of the concert by someone who attended:

And Rolling Stone Magazine published a bunch of photos from it, here:

Various Artists - A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys, Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, CA, 2-8-2023

A few days ago, a commenter suggested I should post this concert. It so happened that I already had it all ready to go (except for making the cover), which is the case for countless hundreds, if not thousands of albums. But since it was requested, I put it at the top of the pile, and here it is. It's a Grammy salute to the Beach Boys from 2023.

This tribute was shown on prime time television, so that meant it was faced paced, and with lots of guest stars. Famous actor Tom Hanks started things off with a spoken tribute, and actors John Stamos and Drew Carey also had turns to speak.

I found a video of this concert, converted it to audio, and then broke it into mp3s. So I don't think it's circulated as an audio bootleg before. The music is unreleased, and the sound quality is excellent.

This album is an hour and eleven minutes long.

01 talk (Tom Hanks)
02 Help Me Rhonda (Little Big Town)
03 talk (John Stamos)
04 California Girls (Weezer)

Norah Jones - Tryin' to Keep It Together - Non-Album Tracks (2020-2023)

Here's another collection of non-album tracks from Norah Jones.

The Covid pandemic dominated 2020 until 2022. During that time, Jones kept quite busy with frequent home concerts. She played enough unique songs in those concerts for me to post two albums of those (as well as all of his home concerts in full). This avoids all of that in other to avoid duplication. Additionally, during this time she hosted a podcast and played even more unique songs. I'm avoiding all those as well. Hopefully those will be the subject of a future album or two posted here, though she also has released an album of highlights from her podcast, called "Playing Along."

The first two songs are bonus tracks from her album "Pick Me Up Off the Floor." Tracks 3, 4, 7, 8, and 10 are unreleased. All of those are from concerts, though most of those were not in front of audiences due to the Covid pandemic at the time. For the two that did have audience applause, I got rid of that using the MVSEP program, so they would better fit in with the studio tracks.

Tracks 5 and 6 are bonus tracks from her 2021 Christmas album, "I Dream of Christmas." The song "I Dream of Christmas" was co-written by Jones, so it's a bit strange it was only a bonus track for the album that was given the same name as the song. Track 9, "Steer Your Way," is from a Leonard Cohen tribute album. The last two are also from a concert, but an officially released one, celebrating Willie Nelson's 90th birthday.

This album is 45 minutes long.

01 Street Stranger (Norah Jones)
02 Tryin' to Keep It Together (Norah Jones)
03 Yes We Can Can (Norah Jones with Emily King, Abeena Koomson-Davis & Amy Helm)
04 Help Me (Norah Jones)
05 I Dream of Christmas (Norah Jones)

Norah Jones - PBS Soundstage, St. Ann's Warehouse, New York City, 1-27-2010

The flood of "PBS Soundstage" concerts continues with a 2010 concert by Norah Jones.

In November 2009, Jones released the studio album "The Fall." It was one of her better reviewed albums, and it sold well, selling three million copies worldwide. She went on practically every show that allows musical performances to promote it, including this one.

Most of the songs are from that album. However, at the end she played her two biggest hits ("Don't Know Why" and "Come Away with Me") plus a cover of "Strangers" by the Kinks.

I had a really tough time finding a source for this. As I write this in April 2025, the video can't be found on YouTube, and the audio isn't on any of the usual bootleg sites. But I dug deep and eventually found a way to stream it, recorded the audio as I streamed, then converted those to mp3s.

This album is 52 minutes long.

01 talk (Norah Jones)
02 I Wouldn't Need You (Norah Jones)
03 Tell Your Mama (Norah Jones)
04 talk (Norah Jones)
05 Light as a Feather (Norah Jones)

Norah Jones - VH-1 Storytellers, New York City, 4-27-2012

Here's yet another "VH-1 Storytellers" album. This time, it's Norah Jones.

I'm especially pleased to present this, because it seems exceedingly rare. I've been looking high and low for these Storytellers episodes, but not only could I not find this one, I barely even found many mentions of it through Google searches. But eventually, to my great surprise, a search request at SoulseekQT finally came through. Hopefully, this posting will help rescue this from obscurity.

In 2012, Jones released her fifth studio album, "Little Broken Hearts." This performance was part of the tour to support that album. She played three songs from the album, "Little Broken Hearts," "Happy Pills," and "Miriam."

This album is 49 minutes long.

01 Come Away with Me (Norah Jones)
02 talk (Norah Jones)
03 Little Broken Hearts (Norah Jones)
04 talk (Norah Jones)
05 Happy Pills (Norah Jones)

Norah Jones - Unique Home Concert Songs, Volume 2 (2020)

To make sure I don't forget to post it, here's the second Norah Jones album that gathers up all the songs that were only on the home concert albums I posted here previously and not on any of her other albums.

As I did with Volume 1, I just want to make clear that everything here has been posted before, when I posted 14 albums of Jones' 2020 home concerts. But I figure that some people who may not want all 14 of those albums might be happy with just these two.

As with Volume 1, most or all of the songs are covers. That helps explain why she didn't put them on her usual studio albums.

There's not much else to say, so I'll leave it there.

This album is 41 minutes long.

01 Song of the Highest Tower (Norah Jones)
02 We'll Be Together Again (Norah Jones)
03 How Deep Is the Ocean (Norah Jones)
04 Straight Up (Norah Jones)
05 Amazing Grace (Norah Jones)
06 What a Difference a Day Makes (Norah Jones)
07 I'll Fly Away (Norah Jones)
08 Blue Christmas (Norah Jones)
09 Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Norah Jones)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15950368/NorahJ_2020_UnqueHomeConcrtSongsVolum2_atse.zip.html

As I did with Volume 1, I made the album cover by putting together a montage of covers of the home concert albums I'd previously posted. I didn't have quite enough to fill up nine slots on both albums, so the last few are from other Norah Jones albums that I'd made.

Norah Jones - Unique Home Concert Songs, Volume 1 (2020)

This is an unusual album for me to post, because everything I've posted here has been posted before. I've posted no less than 14 albums of Norah Jones' home concerts from 2020. That's a lot of music. That vast majority of that consisted of Jones playing songs that she'd already done elsewhere. I think it was interesting hearing them done in solo acoustic mode, usually quite different from the album versions, but they had been done before. So I thought it would be useful to gather up all the songs from those home concerts that were unique to just those concerts and never recorded anywhere else. It turns out there was enough for two albums. So this is the first one.

The songs here are presented in chronological order of when she performed them. She started in mid-March 2020, mere days after the Covid pandemic became a worldwide phenomenon, and this album continues until mid-June 2020. The vast majority of the songs are covers.

If you look at the mp3 tags, you can see which songs are from which albums I've made. But since many people don't know how to look at those, I'll also explain here. The first six songs are from "Home Concerts 1." The seventh song is from "Home Concerts 2." The eighth song is from "Home Concerts 3." The ninth song is from "Home Concerts 4." The tenth song is from "Home Concerts 5."

This album is 38 minutes long.

01 Patience (Norah Jones)
02 Joey (Norah Jones)
03 You and Me (Norah Jones)
04 Lucky (Norah Jones)
05 I Remember Clifford [Instrumental] (Norah Jones)
06 I Am Missing You (Norah Jones)
07 I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (Norah Jones)
08 Permanently Lonely (Norah Jones)
09 I'll Be Seeing You (Norah Jones)
10 Light Wind Blowing (Norah Jones)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15950366/NorahJ_2020_UnqueHomeConcrtSongsVolum1_atse.zip.html

Instead of making a normal album cover, to show how this was a compilation of selected songs from albums I'd already made, I used a montage of the photos for the albums in the home concerts series.

Norah Jones - Theatre Antique, Vienne, France, 7-11-2023

As I write this in late July 2023, I was very pleased to find a Norah Jones concert from only about ten days ago, July 11, 2023. What caught my interest is the fact that this Paris concert was broadcast on French radio, so the sound quality is excellent.

However, I kind of regret posting this concert, because there were more problems than I anticipated. But don't worry about that, because I think I've overcome most of them and made this a good listen.

According to setlist.fm, the first four songs are missing: "Just a Little Bit," "I'm Alive," "Can You Believe," and "Something Is Calling You." That's unfortunate, but there's nothing I could do about that.

But it turns out most of the applause after each song was missing, as well as nearly all of the banter between songs. My guess is that's because there was as French DJ who talked at virtually any time there wasn't any actual music playing, in order to translate banter into French and/or make commentary. That's a pretty certain guess, because there were a few examples of that left on the recording. (I cut that out, although I was able to keep one bit of banter, track 13, after even more careful editing.) So that left me the problem of fixing the ends of nearly every song, patching in applause from other songs to make it sound like a normal crowd response each time. That turned out to be more difficult than expected, because there were only a few spots I could use of crowd noise without talking over it. Hopefully, it will sound good from the listener's perspective, even though I ended up using some crowd noise bits over and over.

Then I realized there was another problem: the bass levels were way too loud. So I had to edit each song for that, changing the mix to have less bass.

It's still unfortunate that this isn't a complete concert recording, and I'm especially annoyed about the missing banter. But the other problems have been fixed, leaving you with a professionally recorded concert from only about ten days ago at the time I post this.

This album is an hour and nine minutes long.

01 What Am I to You (Norah Jones)
02 Sunrise (Norah Jones)
03 Flame Twin (Norah Jones)
04 This Life (Norah Jones)
05 Killing Time (Norah Jones)
06 Little Broken Hearts (Norah Jones)

Norah Jones - Fragile - Non-Album Tracks (2001-2002)

In 2002, the debut album of Norah Jones was released, called "Come Away with Me." It was a huge hit, to put it mildly, selling nearly 30 million albums worldwide. In 2022, a 20th anniversary deluxe edition was released. That contained a bunch of previously unreleased songs. There were enough for a new album of these stray tracks, though it's a short one. So here it is. If you enjoyed her debut album, this is very much in the same vein.

I already had posted some of the rare tracks on this deluxe edition release through my stray track albums from that time period. So I skipped all those. However, I did include two alternate versions of songs I've posted elsewhere: "Something Is Calling You" and "Peace." I felt those versions were different enough and interesting enough to be worthy. I also included two versions of the same song here, "What Am I to You." The second version, at the end, is done acoustically, and again is interesting enough for inclusion.

This album is 33 minutes long.

01 What Am I to You (Norah Jones)
02 Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most (Norah Jones)
03 Walkin' My Baby Back Home (Norah Jones)
04 World of Trouble (Norah Jones)
05 Something Is Calling You [Alternate Version] (Norah Jones)
06 What Would I Do (Norah Jones)
07 A Little at a Time (Norah Jones)
08 Fragile (Norah Jones)
09 Peace [Alternate Version] (Norah Jones)
10 What Am I to You [Acoustic Version] (Norah Jones)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15132959/NorahJ_2001-2002_Frgile_atse.zip.html

I've made a ton of album covers that are photos of the pretty face of Norah Jones. I thought I'd try something different this time, so I Googled her name plus the word "art" and found this image. It was made by Mulyadi Burham. All I did was crop it and add the text.

Norah Jones - Come Away with Me 20th Anniversary Livestream, Allaire Studios, Shokan, NY, 4-28-2022

Here's something fresh, in that the whole thing was recorded two weeks ago as I write this (in early May 2022). In 2002, Norah Jones released her debut album "Come Away with Me," which went on to sell nearly 30 million copies, making it one of the best selling albums of all time. Last month, she released a super deluxe 20th anniversary edition of that album, with lots of outtakes. To celebrate that, she recorded a home concert on April 28, 2022, consisting solely of all the songs from that album, plus three of the recently released outtakes. She's posted the whole concert on YouTube for free, so I figure it's okay if I convert it into mp3 format and post it here.

As part of celebrating that album, she reunited with the same musicians she recorded the album with. It's a small combo of just a guitarist, bassist, and drummer, plus her own piano. Another guitarist, Jesse Harris, who was also on the original record (and wrote the breakthrough hit "Don't Know Why") joined in for just one song, "Shoot the Moon."

As mentioned above, you can find the entire concert on YouTube. It's very professionally filmed, with multiple cameras swooping over the musicians. That also shows that while this is a home concert played in front of only a handful of people, it wasn't recorded in Jones' home. Instead, it was recorded in someone's home/studio in Shokan, New York, with dramatic bay windows looking over the Hudson River.

This concert is an hour and 17 minutes long.

Norah Jones - Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz with Norah Jones (2003)

I recently had a commenter ask me to fix some dead links of Norah Jones albums. I figured while I was at it, I would fix all the Jones albums needing fixing. So I edited all the albums that needed fixing, adjusting the volume balance between songs and fixing the mp3 tags. It turns out the vast majority needed at least some changes, so if that means anything to you, you might want to redownload those.

While I was fixing those albums, I noticed that I hadn't posted one of them that I'd thought I'd posted. So here it is. Around 2003, Norah Jones did a few collaborations with Marian McPartland, an expert piano player who already 85 years at the time (and passed away in 2013). During these collaborations, Jones pretty much exclusively sang jazz classics more than she's ever done at any point in her music career. I've posted another album of them doing classics together, but that was a live show. You can find that here:

https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot.com/2019/03/norah-jones-marian-mcpartland.html

This, by contrast, is a studio album. However, it's an extremely rare one, and usually is not included in Norah Jones discographies. Also, the performances come from a radio show rather than proper studio sessions. I've only included half of the album here, because there is about 22 minutes of conversation between the songs, and I've cut all that out. This is just the music, which greatly includes the repeat listening potential for the album.

All but one of the songs here are covers of classics. The one exception is "Don't Know Why," which also is a cover but first came out as a huge hit by Jones in 2002. The songs are just McPartland on piano and Jones on vocals.

Even with all the conversation tracks removed, this album is still 37 minutes long.

01 September in the Rain (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
02 In the Dark (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
03 Comes Love (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
04 For All We Know [Instrumental] (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
05 I Can't Get Started (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
06 Don't Know Why (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
07 Peace (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
08 The Nearness of You (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)
09 Beautiful Friendship (Norah Jones & Marian McPartland)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15603469/NorahJ_2003_MarianMcPrtlandsPianoJzz_atse.zip.html

For the cover, I found a photo of McPartland and Jones singing together during McPartland's 85th birthday party. Jones actually was much further away, almost to the far end of the piano. But using Photoshop, I moved her closer to McPartland so I could have both of them appear larger in the photo.

Norah Jones - Dear Someone - Non-Album Tracks (2018-2019)

I've been so busy posting Norah Jones's home concert collections that I haven't posted as many of her stray track collections. I've only got a couple of them left to go though before I catch up to the present day. Here's one more.

As I've mentioned previously, Jones is very musically adventurous with her non-album projects. It seems she's up for collaborations with just about anyone. That's especially true for this album. Only two songs here are credited just to her. Those two are the only unreleased songs, and they feature her doing rare cover versions in concerts. The rest are all collaborations, generally for other people's albums or singles. Note also that one song, "Christmas All Over Again," is done by Puss N' Boots, a band she's a part of.

There's one more collaborative song as a bonus track. "Make No Mistake" is a Keith Richards song and is performed with him. The only problem is that it comes from a concert bootleg and the sound quality isn't as good as the rest, thus the bonus track status.

This album is 44 minutes long.

01 Searching for Love (Doyle Bramhall II with Norah Jones)
02 What Is This Thing Called Love (Willie Nelson & Norah Jones)
03 Okolona River Bottom Band (Mercury Rev with Norah Jones)
04 Don't Go to Strangers (Norah Jones)
05 Borderline (Norah Jones)
06 Christmas All Over Again (Puss N Boots featuring Norah Jones)
07 Never My Love (Jakob Dylan & Norah Jones)
08 Dear Someone (Lila Downs & Norah Jones)
09 Take It Away (Norah Jones with Tarriona Tank Ball)
10 I'll Be Gone (Norah Jones & Mavis Staples)
11 I Forgot (Norah Jones & Rodrigo Amarante)

Norah Jones - Home Concerts 14, New York City, 11-12-2020 to 12-24-2020

I'm happy to be presenting the next in my long series of Norah Jones home concert albums. But there's bad news in that this might be the last one. The number of songs she did in her home concerts slowed down in November and December 2020, ending with a Christmas song the day before Christmas. When she posted that, she said she would be back with more in 2021, but it's mid-February 2021 as I write this, and she hasn't done any of her usual weekly home concert shows.

By now, if you've listened to some of the albums in this series, you should know the drill. She plays all the songs alone on either piano or guitar. Everything is officially unreleased, but the sound quality is pretty good. Most of the songs were done by her in different formats before, but there are four here that seem to be new: "What a Difference a Day Makes," I'll Fly Away," "Blue Christmas," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." During this time period, she did repeat some songs she played in previous home concerts, but I didn't include any of those duplicates.

I've added in two songs she did at a Tom Petty tribute concert in October 2020 as bonus tracks. They sound just as good as the others, but they're only bonus tracks because A) they weren't done as part of her home concert series and B) I've posted them on a different album already.

This album is 42 minutes long, not including the bonus tracks.

01 You Are Not Alone (Norah Jones)
02 Until the End (Norah Jones)
03 Don’t Know What It Means (Norah Jones)
04 What a Difference a Day Makes (Norah Jones)
05 [Talk to Me Of] Mendocino (Norah Jones)
06 Hurts to Be Alone (Norah Jones)
07 Space Captain (Norah Jones)
08 talk (Norah Jones)
09 I'll Fly Away (Norah Jones)
10 Blue Christmas (Norah Jones)
11 talk (Norah Jones)
12 Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Norah Jones)

Only a Broken Heart (Norah Jones)
Time to Move On (Norah Jones)

Re: the album cover art, I got tired of using screenshots from her home concerts, since those look very similar to each other. Instead, I searched Norah Jones's Instagram, and found this artistic photo looking at her at the piano through a window. It dates from September 2020.

Norah Jones - Home Concerts 13, New York City, 10-22-2020 to 11-5-2020

Here's another in a long line of Norah Jones home concert albums. I waited a little bit to see how things would shake out for the next album or two. She has slowed down a lot, for the first time, for the Christmas holidays. But she's promised to post more in the new year.

Hopefully by now I don't need to explain much. If you've listened to any of the previous home concerts in this series, you should know the drill. This is about 45 minutes of her playing songs solo from her home in her unique style.

Perhaps the most notable thing about this particular album is the cover. This is a compilation of three performances of four songs each. (I didn't include any songs that she played in previous home concerts, and I think there was one or two of those here.) The middle performance took place very close to Halloween. So for that she dressed up in a Halloween costume, as the Hamburglar from the McDonalds fast food chain. Note also in the back two kids in their own costumes. I'm assuming those are her kids. They came out and danced around for one of the songs.

01 Picture in a Frame (Norah Jones)
02 talk (Norah Jones)
03 Just a Little Bit (Norah Jones)
04 Blue Bayou (Norah Jones)
05 talk (Norah Jones)
08 My Dear Country (Norah Jones)
09 talk (Norah Jones)
10 Wake Me Up (Norah Jones)
11 talk (Norah Jones)
12 Man of the Hour (Norah Jones)
13 Down by the River (Norah Jones)
14 talk (Norah Jones)
15 Rosie's Lullaby (Norah Jones)
16 Sleep Won't Come (Norah Jones)
17 talk (Norah Jones)
18 Hands on the Wheel (Norah Jones)

I discussed the album cover above. It comes from a screenshot I took. I couldn't find an ideal screenshot clearly featuring both children. But you can see the head of one (in an alien mask) on one side of her, and part of the body of the other one on her other side.

Norah Jones - Lady Secret - Non-Album Tracks (2016-2017)

I've been so busy posting Norah Jones's 2020 home concert material that I've fallen behind posting her earlier material. So here's another one of her stray tracks albums. Hopefully by now I've posted so much of her music that I don't have to keep repeating myself that her non-album material is more varied and interesting, in my opinion, so you might like this even if you aren't a big fan of her well-known hits.

The song "Lady Secret" is a great example of why her stray tracks are more varied and interesting than her album material. I love her willingness to try just about anything. This is a comedic song done as part of a trio. The words are very funny, and the video is great too. (Search for it on YouTube.)

Another example of her variety here is that she does a solo acoustic guitar version of "It's Raining Tacos," a novelty song by Parry Gripp. I have no idea why she did that song, of all songs, but it probably had something to do with the fact that she had some young kids at the time. It's a good example of how she'll try all sorts of things if not on album, whereas she plays it safe with what she puts on her albums.

Four of the songs here are officially unreleased (not counting the bonus tracks). But I'm maintaining a high level of sound quality, so those four sound just fine. As for the two bonus tracks, "You Don't Know How It Feels" is fairly rough, but I wanted to include it as a bonus track since it's such a great Tom Petty song. "Hickory Wind" sounds better, but just barely missed the cut.

This album is 43 minutes long.

01 Time to Move On (Norah Jones with Kristen Wiig)
02 Move Along (Candles with Norah Jones)
03 You Are So Beautiful (Charles Lloyd & the Marvels with Norah Jones)
04 It's Raining Tacos (Norah Jones)
05 It's Not Christmas 'Till You Come Home (Norah Jones)
06 Unchained Melody (Norah Jones)
07 Bad Wind Blowing (Jack Grace & Norah Jones)
08 Lady Secret (Norah Jones, Sarah Oda & Tarriona Tank Ball)
09 Ripple (Norah Jones)
10 Love Has No Pride (Tedeschi Trucks Band & Norah Jones)
11 Black Hole Sun (Norah Jones)

Hickory Wind (Norah Jones & Cory Chisel)
You Don't Know How It Feels (Norah Jones with Kristen Wiig)

The cover art photo comes from the Petty Fest in Los Angeles in 2016. The first song and one of the bonus tracks were played at that concert. The photo was drenched in red light, and I thought that looked cool,so I used it without making any changes.

Norah Jones - Home Concerts 12, New York City, 10-1-2020 to 10-15-2020

As I promised, here's the next in my rush release of Norah Jones's home concerts. This gets me almost caught up to the current day. I only have one more to go after this. So I can post other things for a while before I get back to her.

I must admit, part of my motivation in posting this particular album on this particular day is to display the album cover that shows Norah Jones encouraging people to vote in the upcoming US presidential election. Please vote! Your vote really does matter.

Getting back to the music, this is pretty much just like the other albums in this series. On some other albums she's played guitar sometimes, but she's on piano the whole time here.

As usual, most of the performances are solo versions of songs from her albums. But "Borderline" is Joni Mitchell tune "Dear John" is by Ryan Adams, and "What Would I Do without You" was done by Ray Charles.

This album is 46 minutes long.

01 Borderline (Norah Jones)
02 talk (Norah Jones)
03 Dear John (Norah Jones)
04 You’ve Ruined Me (Norah Jones)
05 Sleeping Wild (Norah Jones)

08 Light as a Feather (Norah Jones)
09 What Would I Do without You (Norah Jones)
10 Seven Years (Norah Jones)
11 Uh Oh (Norah Jones)

Norah Jones - Home Concerts 11, New York City, 9-10-2020 to 9-27-2020

For the past couple of days, I've put Norah Jones on a fast track, posting one of her home concert albums each day. That's so I don't fall more and more behind, since she consistently does a mini-concert every single week. Here's the latest. I'm getting closer to the present day as I write this on November 1, 2020, but I should have another one for tomorrow as well.

Once again, there's not much for me to say. If you've liked the other albums in this series, you should like this one too. She focuses on playing piano this time, and the mix of the piano and her voice is better than last time. As usual, she mostly does original songs from her albums. But she does a nice cover of the all-time classic "Amazing Grace," which I don't think she's ever played in public before.

This time around, the total length is 52 minutes.

01 Toes (Norah Jones)
02 talk (Norah Jones)
03 It’s a Wonderful Time for Love (Norah Jones)
04 talk (Norah Jones)
05 Out on the Road Again (Norah Jones)
06 Lovesick Blues (Norah Jones)
07 Straight Up (Norah Jones)
08 The Sun Doesn’t Like You (Norah Jones)
09 Heartache (Norah Jones)
10 Cold, Cold Heart (Norah Jones)
11 Flame Twin (Norah Jones)
12 Amazing Grace (Norah Jones)
13 Take It Away (Norah Jones)
14 Street Stranger (Norah Jones)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15849019/NorahJ_2020_HomeCncerts11__9-10-2020_to_9-27-2020_atse.zip.html

Once again, I didn't want to have the same ol' same old photo of Jones sitting at her piano for the album cover. I came across a nice photo of her taken recently for the cover of "Downbeat Magazine." So I stripped all the usual magazine headline text from around it and used that.

Various Artists - Tom Petty's 70th Birthday Bash, 10-23-2020

Here's something that I think is great if you're a fan of Tom Petty's music at all. And who isn't a fan of Tom Petty's music? Petty died in 2017. Had he lived, he would have turned 70 on October 20, 2020. There has been a yearly tribute concert in his hometown of Gainsville, Florida, on his birthday each year since his death. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a normal concert wasn't possible, so a virtual home concert was held instead, with different artists sending in their cover versions of Petty songs from their homes. The entire concert was well over five hours long. I've cut that down to three hours to make a really strong concert.

Somewhat strangely, this concert was broken into three different parts. The first two parts were only played on SiriusXM satellite radio. The first part consisted mostly of performances by Gainsville musicians. Most of those musicians are obscure, with no officially recorded music whatsoever. In cutting this concert from five hours down to three, I mostly cut from the first part. There are a lot of generic and unremarkable covers of Petty songs by bands you've never heard of, such as the Arts in Medicine Hospital Band and Jeff Slate's Weekend Wilburys. But there were some excellent performances by some unknowns, so I've included those. There are were a few songs by more famous artists sprinkled in early, such as one of my favorites, Larkin Poe, doing a song with Steve Ferrone of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on drums. Another Heartbreaker, guitarist Mike Campbell, also helped with a song by Starcrawler.

For the second part of the concert, a different SiriusXM DJ took over. The focus on Gainsville musicians ended. Instead, more famous musicians from all over were featured, starting with Eddie Vedder, lead vocalist of Pearl Jam. This section continued through the performance by the Raconteurs.

The final and longest section tended to feature the most famous names, though a few lesser knowns are scattered in as well. This last second was made available on video at Tom Petty's official website and other places. You can find all of it on YouTube if you want to watch and not just listen. Since this section is much more widely available, most press accounts mistakenly asserted that was the entire concert. But in fact it was only about half.

Now, let me explain some more about what I chose not to include. There were five songs performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers scattered through the concert. Judging by appearances, they're from different years of Petty's long careers. I didn't include any of those because I felt they didn't fit the rest of the concert. They were typical versions of his famous songs, like "Refugee" and "I Need to Know." Most of the songs were done by other musicians in the concert, so including them would have increased the repetition of songs a lot.

There also were a lot of spoken word sections. I removed nearly all of those. They're nice to hear once or twice, but they don't have much replay value after that, in my opinion. I've only included the between song banter by Mike Campbell & Benmont Tench, the lead guitarist and pianist, respectively, of Tom Petty's band the Heartbreakers. They did a mini-set of three songs, and the banter between the songs was an important part of that, in my opinion. Nearly all the talking was in the last section of the concert. If you watch that on YouTube, you'll hear nice spoken tributes to Petty by his wife Dana, his daughter Adria, Stevie Nicks, a poem by George Harrison's wife Olivia, and more.

Most of the songs sound great. But a few were recorded from homes with poor recording equipment. I rejected a few songs due to sound quality issues. I didn't include a version of "Yer So Bad" by Adam Sandler mostly because it was so poorly recorded. The songs by Beck and Susanna Hoffs also were not recorded well, but I included them because they just barely sounded good enough for my ears, and I particularly like those two artists.

Another problem was that there didn't seem much effort to prevent multiple versions of the same songs. For instance, there were no less than four versions of the song "Wildflowers!" I removed two of them, by the bands Grouplove and the Arts in Medicine Hospital Band, while keeping the versions by Eddie Vedder and Brandi Carlile. The song "Honey Bee" was another problem. There were three versions that I decided to keep, by Larkin Poe, Grace Potter with Reysonator, and the Foo Fighters. There were all good, and all different from each other. I removed some other songs that were done more than once. There are a few other songs with two versions: "American Girl," "Room at the Top," "Runnin' Down a Dream," and "Walls (Circus)." Since the concert is so long at three hours, I figure a few of those are okay.

Almost all musicians played just one song. There are a couple of exceptions though. As mentioned above, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench did three songs together to end the concert. Norah Jones played two songs. And Margo Price and Lukas Nelson each did one song, but then also did a duet together.

As I mentioned above, this a great concert. All sorts of my favorite musicians were included, and they did excellent versions. Honestly, I could hardly have picked a better line-up myself. If you like Tom Petty at all, please give this a listen!

Another point I want to mention is that the vast majority of the performances were done on or just before the broadcast date, from the musician's homes, but there are a few exceptions. The Gary Clark, Jr. and Jason Isbell performances comes from concerts in 2017. The Killers did their song "American Girl" in concert. I don't know the date or location, but they played that song a bunch of times in concert from 2017 to 2019. Eddie Vedder's version of "Wildflowers" is a solo acoustic version done without an audience, so it sounds much like the others. But it actually was done in 2017 at some point after Petty's death and not made public until this concert.

Oh, and one last thing: as Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench repeatedly said at the very end of the concert, if you're a US citizen, please VOTE in the election on November 3rd!
