Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 6: The Biggest Weekend, Titanic Slipways, Belfast, Britain, 5-25-2018

Here's another album I thought I'd posted but actually hadn't. It's the sixth and most recent BBC album I have of Beck, at least so far. This one is a concert.

Maybe the reason I didn't post this is because it's from one of my least favorite phases of Beck's music career. In 2017, he released the album "Colors." If you look at the crowd sourced ratings at rateyourmusic.com, you can see it's one of his lowest rated albums. That said, I think the songs come across better in a live format. They seemed overproduced to me, so they lost most of that when played live.

Also, the songs were upbeat and danceable, and this whole concert is like that. It includes a fun medley of classic songs near the end.

The music here is unreleased. The sound quality is excellent.

This album is 57 minutes long.

01 Devil's Haircut (Beck)

Various Artists - A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys, Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, CA, 2-8-2023

A few days ago, a commenter suggested I should post this concert. It so happened that I already had it all ready to go (except for making the cover), which is the case for countless hundreds, if not thousands of albums. But since it was requested, I put it at the top of the pile, and here it is. It's a Grammy salute to the Beach Boys from 2023.

This tribute was shown on prime time television, so that meant it was faced paced, and with lots of guest stars. Famous actor Tom Hanks started things off with a spoken tribute, and actors John Stamos and Drew Carey also had turns to speak.

I found a video of this concert, converted it to audio, and then broke it into mp3s. So I don't think it's circulated as an audio bootleg before. The music is unreleased, and the sound quality is excellent.

This album is an hour and eleven minutes long.

Various Artists - Let's Go Crazy: A Grammy Salute to Prince, Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 1-28-2020

A couple of days ago, I posted a Grammy tribute to Paul Simon in 2022. That's not the only such Grammy tribute, although they haven't always happened yearly. Here's one from 2020, paying tribute to Prince, who died in 2016.

In the Paul Simon tribute, there was a lot of talking between songs. But in this one, this is almost no banter whatsoever. It's possible some of that was cut out of the version I found, since even the applause at the ends of songs was usually brutally cut short after just a second or two. To make this a better flowing listen, I usually patched in more applause between songs, to give more breathing room before the next song began.

There are lots of interesting versions of Prince's most famous songs here, often done by big name stars. Since most of Prince's songs are upbeat and funky, and there's no banter between songs, this plays like a party album.

Everything here is unreleased. The sound quality is excellent.

This album is an hour and seven minutes long.

Beck - Liquid Room, Tokyo, Japan, 3-31-2003

There are tons of Beck concert bootlegs (and NO official live albums), but there are surprisingly few with soundboard-level quality, for some reason. I'm posting an audience bootleg here. But before you run away, sometimes audience boots can sound just as good as a solid soundboard boot, and this is such a case. It was a long mostly acoustic concert with a solid performance, interesting banter, and lots of interesting song selections, including a bunch of cover versions he never officially released. This is one of the best Beck live recordings, period.

In 2003, Beck was still touring to support his acclaimed and most acoustic 2002 album "Sea Changes." So naturally there are lots of songs from that.

For most of the first half, it was basically a solo acoustic concert. But other band members gradually joined in here and there. By the song "The Golden Age," it sounds like the full band was playing. Then the rest of the concert continued in more of a full-band sound while still retaining an acoustic vibe.

I had very little problem with the sound on this one, until the second half. When the full band joined in, Beck's vocals were drowned out a bit by all the instruments, compared to before. So I used the UVR5 audio editing program for all the songs from "The Golden Age" on to boost the lead vocals relative to the instruments. So even if you had this concert already, this version sounds better.

By the way, here are the covers: "Kangaroo," "Love," "Do You Realize," "Magnolia," "She Thinks I Still Care," "No Expectations," "Sleepless Nights," and "Sunday Morning." Note that I added a bunch of the cover versions from this exact concert to the stray tracks album I made for this time period. Oh, and there's a very strange "goth version" of "Loser" that's almost unrecognizable.

This album is just a few seconds shy of two hours long.

Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 5: In Concert, Glastonbury Festival, Worthy Farm, Pilton, Britain, 6-26-2016

This is another concert Beck performed for the BBC.

There's a big time gap between the last BBC album, in 2003, and this one. In 2016, the year of this concert, Beck didn't have any new album to promote. However, he did play one song, "Dreams," that was an early single release for his 2017 album "Colours." So the concert is more of an overview of Beck's entire music career up until that point. Facing the huge Glastonbury Festival audience of well over 100,000, he generally did his best known songs. He also was backed by a band for pretty much the entire concert.

The entire concert is unreleased. However, the sound quality is excellent, as you'd expect from the BBC. It appears to be the full performance.

This album is an hour and six minutes long.

Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 4: BBC 4 Sessions, Union Chapel, London, Britain, 4-28-2003

Here were are with Beck performing for the BBC again. This is a particularly nice concert due to the excellent sound quality and varied set list.

At the time of this concert, Beck was still promoting "Sea Change," the album he'd released late in 2002. It was a critically acclaimed album, and it was a return to his mellow, acoustic-based style. So this album certainly has a lot of acoustic music on it, especially performances of songs from "Sea Change." But he also played with a full band on many songs, and he wasn't afraid to show off his funky side as well. He even did a cover of "Hot in Herre," which was a Number One hit in the US by the rapper Nelly the year before.

This unreleased concert was broadcast on the BBC TV show "BBC 4 Sessions." So you can watch the entire thing on YouTube.

This album is 58 minutes long. Once again, I strongly suspect it was edited down by the BBC to fit into an hour-long time slot.

Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 3: Leeds Festival, Temple Newsam, Leeds, Britain, 8-27-2000

There's no end to the BBC material, it seems. Here's another unreleased concert from Beck.

In 1999, Beck released the album "Midnite Vultures." It was upbeat and funky. This concert happened about a year after that release, but Beck was still promoting it, still fully in that musical mode.

The BBC often edits concerts down, and they must have edited the heck out of this one. In addition to cutting out some songs, I'll bet they cut out the banter between songs, because there's virtually none of that here.

Despite that, it's still one of the better concert recordings from the "Midnite Vultures" tour, due to the sound quality. There are surprisingly few soundboard or radio broadcast concert bootlegs for Beck.

This album is 45 minutes long.

Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 2: In Concert, Brixton Academy, Brixton, Britain, 12-10-1996

Beck has had a great, long music career, but in terms of popularity he peaked early. His second major album, "Odelay" in 1996, sold about two million copies, about double the sales for any of his other albums. So late 1996 was a great time for a BBC concert.

Beck has frequently flipped between two modes: a mellow, acoustic mode, and an upbeat, rocking mode. This concert is almost entirely in the upbeat, rocking mode. He played all of his best known songs at the time, including his breakout hit "Loser," a song he hasn't played that much since due to growing tired of it.

Rather oddly, Beck played "Make Out City," and introduced it as such. But it's basically just a remix of his hit "Where It's At," and is easily recognized as such.

There's not much else to say. The sound quality is excellent throughout. Oh, and I believe everything here is unreleased.

This album is an hour and five minutes long.

Beck - BBC Sessions, Volume 1: 1994-2006

If you've been following this blog a long time, you've probably noticed I'm a big fan of Beck, having posted many albums by him, and I'm also a big fan of BBC recordings. So here's two great things that go great together: Beck at the BBC. As I write this in 2023, I've found enough for six Beck BBC albums, with hopefully more to come as time goes on. But most of those are full concerts. This is the only one that is made up of BBC studio sessions.

This is a rather odd and short album because Beck has done so few BBC studio sessions. The first four songs are from 1994, and the next three are from 1995. Then there's a big time leap to 2003 for the next song. Finally, the last three songs are from 2006. All together, it only makes for 34 minutes of music. But luckily, the music is united by an overall acoustic sound.

I know he did more BBC studio sessions; it's just that I can't find them. For instance, more songs from his 2006 session were played on the radio show in subsequent weeks. So if anyone has more, let me know, so I can flesh this out some more.

All the performances are officially unreleased, as far as I know. The sound quality is excellent throughout, as you'd expect from BBC studio sessions.

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 11-4-2019

I'm back from my vacation. I had a really great time. Thanks for all the well wishes.

I've been on a kick of posting Beck's performances for the KCRW radio show "Morning Becomes Eclectic," so it's fitting that I get back to posting one of those. This one comes from 2019. It's his most recent appearance as I write this in 2023. But then again, his last studio album, "Hyperspace," came out in 2019, so hopefully he'll be back once he gets another album out.

This was another full band performance. There are many similarities between this concert and his 2017 one. They both were supporting studio albums that weren't particularly well received by fans or critics, compared to his previous albums. Both albums were marred by bad production choices, in my opinion. As a result, both KCRW shows are big improvements, because most of the band production is left behind when songs are performed live. Also, just like the 2017 concert, he spiced things up by playing some older favorites, like "The New Pollution" and "Where It's At."

This album is only 29 minutes long.

01 Uneventful Days (Beck)
02 talk (Beck)
03 The New Pollution (Beck)

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 11-7-2017

I'm really determined to post all the performances Beck did on the KCRW "Morning Becomes Eclectic" radio show. I'm finally almost there. As I write this in 2023, I just have one more to go after this one.

In October 2017, Beck released the studio album "Colors." Personally, I'm not a big fan of the album. Many other Beck fans feel the same way, because at the crowd-sourced rateyourmusic.com website, it's one of his lowest rated albums. I think a big problem with it is that it was overproduced. Here's what one reviewer said at rateyourmusic, and I totally agree: "Not helping is how absolutely over-produced this thing sounds - every sound is so cleanly cropped it all just has this gross, artificial sound that's about as far from sounding organic as one can go."

The good news that the songs sound much better in this KCRW concert. Being forced to play live means you have to leave most production techniques behind. One problem though was that his voice was relatively buried in the mix. But I used the UVR5 audio editing program to bring his voice forward.

So even if you don't like "Colors," you might like this one. Mixed in with a bunch of "Colors" songs are a few older ones, like "Devil's Haircut" and "Nausea."

The last two songs are not actually from this KCRW concert. They're from concerts in 2018. But I liked then and didn't have a better place to put them in my music collection, so I stuck them at the end.

This album is 40 minutes long. Just the KCRW portion is 32 minutes long.

01 Dreams (Beck)

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW, Santa Monica, CA, 1995-1996

Just a few minutes ago, I posted an album of Beck's 1993 and 1994 appearances on the KCRW radio show "Morning Becomes Eclectic." While I'm at it, here's his next two appearances on that show, from 1995 and 1996. As with the 1993 and 1994 album, there are some songs here I've put on other stray tracks albums. But I figure some people may appreciate having all the KCRW performances gathered together.

The first seven tracks here are from a performance on January 6, 1995. The remaining songs are from a performance on June 19, 1996. During this time, he was a remarkably prolific songwriter. But in my opinion, he didn't do a good job of putting those songs on albums. Interestingly, his very popular album "Odelay" was released on June 18, 1996, just one day before his second performance here. But you'd never know that because he played none of the "Odelay" songs here, although "Strange Invitation" is a renamed, very different acoustic version of the "Odelay" song "Jack-Ass."

"Odelay" is a very rocking album, with lots of rap and funk influences. But for these two performances he was mostly in acoustic mode. In fact, some of the songs here are covers of old blues or country songs, like "Devil Got My Woman," "John the Revelator," "Grinnin' in Your Face," and "Waitin' for a Train" that are drastically different from his "Odelay" style. Some of the originals he did here were never officially released. "Cancelled Check" would later appear on his 1998 album "Mutations" done in a different style.

This album is 32 minutes long.

01 Devil Got My Woman (Beck)
02 Woe on Me [Feel the Strain of Sorrow Never Ceasing] (Beck)
03 Cancelled Check (Beck)

The cover photo of Beck is from a Lollapalooza concert in New York City, on July 29, 1995.

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW, Santa Monica, CA, 1993-1994

I've posted so many albums of Beck performing for the KCRW "Morning Becomes Eclectic" radio show (with more to come) that I decided I should go back and post the ones he did in the early years of his career. I hadn't done that before, because he played many otherwise unreleased songs on those shows, and I used those on some of the stray tracks albums I've made. But I figure it won't be the end of the world if I have the same performance on two albums every now and then.

Beck performed on this show five times between 1993 and 1996, generally in acoustic mode. For one of those shows, he apparently only did the song "Whiskeyfaced, Radioactive, Blowdryin' Lady," on September 13, 1993. I can't find that anywhere, so if you have it please pass it on and I'll add it in. I've divided the other shows into two albums.

The first seven tracks here are from a July 23, 1993 show. His single "Loser" had been released in March 1993, and had been slowly gaining enough traction for him to get an appearance on a radio show like this. But it wouldn't be until 1994 when it really caught fire and made it to the Top Ten in the U.S. I cut out all of the interview dialogue between songs for all these shows. However, this version of "Loser" was preceded by a recording of Woody Guthrie talking that Beck had selected to lead into the song, so I kept that.

The remaining tracks are from a show on March 1, 1994. One more song was played, "Beercan." But that actually was just an airing of the record version, and the KCRW DJ talked over much of it before cutting it off halfway, due to the end of the radio show, so I didn't include that. What is included was all played live in the studio, though there were some backing tracks in some cases, and one song, "Howling Wolves," had been prerecorded earlier that day.

This album is 46 minutes long.

The cover photo is from one of Beck's appearances in the KCRW studios in the 1990's. I'm pretty sure it's from either the 1993 or 1994 shows, due to his changing fashion sense in those years. The photo was in black and white, but I used the Palette program to colorize it, then made some further changes to get the colors more to my liking.

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, Apogee Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 4-16-2014

Here's yet another one of Beck's performances for the KCRW radio show "Morning Becomes Eclectic." There are at least two more coming after this.

According to setlist.fm, Beck actually played a concert of 15 songs in front of an audience. But for whatever reason, KCRW only played seven of them on the radio. If anyone has any of the other songs, please let me know and I'll add them in.

Beck was there to promote his 2014 album "Morning Phase." All the songs except "Soldier Jane" and "Lost Cause" come from that album.

This album is pretty short. But as I've said before, there aren't a lot of soundboard level live recordings of him. These KCRW shows have him performing his songs with the highest sound quality.

This album is 27 minutes long.

01 Blackbird Chain (Beck)
02 Soldier Jane (Beck)
03 Don't Let It Go (Beck)
04 Waking Light (Beck)
05 Country Down (Beck)
06 Lost Cause (Beck)
07 Blue Moon (Beck)

Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW, Santa Monica, CA, 1-27-2010

This is part of my recent effort to post all the major appearances Beck has done on the Morning Becomes Eclectic radio show. But while this features Beck singing and/or playing guitar on every track, it's much more of a Charlotte Gainsbourg album.

I need to give some background to this. Charlotte Gainsbourg is a French-British actress and singer-songwriter. She is the daughter of French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg and British actress and singer Jane Birkin. Serge Gainsbourg in particular is kind of a musical legend in France (and Beck is a huge fan of his work), so she's had some very big shoes to fill. But although her album releases have been sporadic and her sales haven't been that great, her music has been critically acclaimed. Personally, I really like her stuff. I can easily see why Beck wanted to collaborate her, and not just as a nod to her father (who died in 1991, by the way).

In 2010, Charlotte Gainsbourg released the album "IRM." It's almost like a Beck album but with Gainsbourg singing the lead vocals, because Beck was the sole songwriter for all but three of the 13 songs, and he even co-wrote two of those. Furthermore, he produced the album, played instruments on all the songs, did backing vocals, and sang a duet on one song, "Heaven Can Wait."

But Beck naturally was also very busy with his own music career, so I haven't seen any sign that he went on tour with Gainsbourg to promote the album. However, they did do this one radio show together, so it's pretty unique. As with the album, Gainsbourg sang lead on nearly all the songs (with the exception of the "Heaven Can Wait" duet again). But Beck sang backing vocals so prominently that some of the other songs veered on duets too, and he played guitar on everything as well.

If you're a Beck fan, you could look at this, and the "IRM" album, almost like a lost Beck album. But also, it hopefully can be a gateway for people to discover Charlotte Gainsbourg's talent. Although virtually all the songs were written by Beck, her own songs are usually on the same high level.

This album is 30 minutes long.

01 Songs that We Sing (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
02 Time of the Assassins (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
03 Dandelion (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
04 Heaven Can Wait (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
05 In the End (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
06 Masters Hands (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
07 Me and Jane Doe (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
08 The Collector (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
09 Trick Pony (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)
10 Vanities (Charlotte Gainsbourg & Beck)

The cover comes from a video of this exact radio show. However, Gainsbourg and Beck were sitting in different parts of the room. So I took screenshots of each of them and placed them side by side.

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 10-31-2006

First off, my apologies, because I've just changed a Beck album I posted only a week ago. I posted his "Morning Becomes Eclectic" KCRW radio show performance in 2005, and added three songs from his 2008 performance on that show. At that time, I didn't realize he did a 2006 performance too, but I did and I'm posting it here. So it makes better sense to move those three 2008 songs here, since 2006 is closer to 2008 than 2005 is.

Beck returned in 2006 because he was promoting his new studio album at the time, "The Information." Naturally, he mainly played song from that album. He was accompanied by a band.

I like these KCRW shows because there are surprisingly few Beck concert recordings with soundboard quality. Although these shows are usually short, half an hour or less, the sound quality can't be beat.

The last three songs come from another KCRW performance on November 18, 2008. I've stuck those at the end as quasi bonus tracks because Beck only played three songs (with a small trio) when he visited the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show in 2008, so that wasn't nearly enough for its own album.

This album is 41 minutes long. The 2006 show is only 30 minutes long, but there are those three songs from 2008 added at the end.

01 Motorcade (Beck)
02 Cellphone's Dead (Beck)
03 No Complaints (Beck)
04 Movie Theme (Beck)
05 We Dance Alone (Beck)
06 Nausea (Beck)
07 Dark Star (Beck)
08 Strange Apparition (Beck)
09 I Think I'm in Love (Beck)
10 Gamma Ray (Beck)
11 Modern Guilt (Beck)
12 Orphans (Beck)

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 3-31-2005

Beck likes to perform for the KCRW radio station every couple of years, and I've been occasionally posting his more significant performances there. So here's another one.

This album actually has three sources, all of them unreleased. The first seven songs come from the KCRW show in 2005 mentioned in the title, played with a band. Tracks 8 and 9 come from a band performance on a German TV show sometime in 2005. I included that mainly because Beck somehow failed to play the song "Clap Hands" in the KCRW performance, and that's my favorite song he did in 2005. (He apparently didn't like it that much, since it only came out as a bonus track.)

This album is 33 minutes long.

01 E-Pro (Beck)
02 Black Tambourine (Beck)
03 Broken Drum (Beck)
04 Hell Yes (Beck)
05 Girl (Beck)
06 Guero (Beck)
07 Scarecrow (Beck)
08 Tropicalia (Beck)
09 Clap Hands (Beck)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15492107/BeckH_2005_MornngBecomesEclecticSantaMonicaCA__3-31-2005_atse.zip.html

The cover photo is a screenshot taken from the YouTube video of the German TV show ("Sarah Kuttner - Die Show") performance of "Clap Hands" included here. I strongly recommend you watch the YouTube video, because it's lots of fun. In it, Beck sings and plays the song on guitar while his backing band sitting at a table and gets served a meal by a waiter. But as they're doing that, they're beating out complicated rhythms on the table using their silverware and glasses and other implements! It's really cool and sounds great.

Apparently, when Beck went on tour in 2005, they did this table thing at every concert. Beck would do an acoustic set in the middle of the show. His backing band would actually sit at the table behind him on stage and eat a meal while Beck sang his songs. Then when he got to this song at the end of the acoustic set, it would quickly become clear the band members had stopped eating and were playing rhythm with everything in reach at the table. People say it was the highlight of the shows.

Beck with the Flaming Lips - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 11-24-2002

I recently posted two albums of Beck performing for the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" radio show. He really likes playing for this show, and typically does so every other year or thereabouts. So here's another one.

This one is rather unique because Beck was backed by the critically acclaimed band the Flaming Lips for a 2002 tour. At the end of their tour, they did this performance. Beck did all the lead vocals. But he also sang one song by the Flaming Lips, "Do You Realize?"

As is typical for these radio shows, there was lots of talking between the songs, with both Beck and Wayne Coyne, lead singer of the Flaming Lips, talking a lot. I cut that way down, limiting it to only the parts where they discussed the songs they were about to play.

Actually, this wasn't the only performance Beck gave for this radio station in 2002. He did one a few months earlier, with only one other musician. The song list was largely the same, and I think the Flaming Lips performance is more interesting. However, he played three songs he didn't play in the other show. So I've added those to the end.

This album is 51 minutes long.

01 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
02 The Golden Age (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
03 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
04 We Live Again (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
05 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
06 Cold Brains (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
07 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
08 Do You Realize (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
09 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
10 Lonesome Tears (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
11 Lost Cause (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
12 Little One (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
13 Paper Tiger (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
14 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
15 New Pollution (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
16 talk (Beck with the Flaming Lips)
17 Side of the Road (Beck)
18 talk (Beck)
19 Guess I'm Doing Fine (Beck)
20 talk (Beck)
21 Round the Bend (Beck)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15130181/BeckH_2002b_MornngBecomesEclecticSantaMonicaCA__11-24-2002_atse.zip.html

At first, I was going to use a photo of Beck and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips playing together on the Austin City Limits TV show in 2002. However, that photo was rather low res. More importantly, I discovered a YouTube video of one of the songs ("New Pollution") from this exact show. So I took a screenshot of that. Unfortunately, it only shows Beck, since the Flaming Lips members were scattered all over the studio at the time.

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 2000-2001

Beck likes to play for the Los Angeles radio station KCRW. I'd guess he performs there an average of about once every two years. I posted an album-length 1998 performance there already. He returned in 2000 and 2001. Unfortunately for the purpose of this album, he did a lot of talking with the DJ and listened to some of his favorite records. But for both shows, he did play some songs in acoustic format. Gathering all of those from both shows, I have enough for a short album.

My goal was to make an album that I would want to listen to multiple times, and then hopefully other people would want to as well. In my opinion, interviews with radio DJs are good for one or two listens, but that's about it. So I cut out nearly all of that. But I did keep the bits where Beck was introducing the songs he was playing next.

Beck played a lot of interesting songs he otherwise rarely did, especially covers, like "Go Easy," "Some Things Last a Long Time," and "Win." One song, "Nobody's Fault but My Own," was played at both appearances. I've kept both versions. But if you only want one, you can just remove the last song.

This album is 38 minutes long.

01 talk (Beck)
02 [I Heard That] Lonesome Whistle (Beck)
03 talk (Beck)
04 We Live Again (Beck)
05 talk (Beck)
06 Go Easy (Beck)

Beck - Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW Studios, Santa Monica, CA, 11-24-1998

Now that I've all caught up with stray tracks albums from Beck, I have some other albums from him I'd like to post. This is a great album for anyone who likes his 1998 album "Mutations." That's probably my favorite album from him. He performed most of the album for a radio station, so the sound quality is excellent and there is no crowd noise.

Beck has had a long relationship with the radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, California. That had him perform live on air back in 1993, before he hit it big with the single "Loser" in 1994. Since then, he's often returned for more in person performances at the station. He doesn't do it every single year, but he at least performs there once every few years.

I've posted some of his KCRW performances on albums with other sources too, such as my two volumes of Beck's "Rare Acoustic Performances." Those were relatively short solo acoustic performances. But as he got more famous, his KCRW shows got longer, and usually included a band. That's the case here.

There was a lot of the typical radio interview banter between songs. I cut the vast majority of that out, because I don't think it has much relisten value. However, I did keep the brief comments he made to introduce each of the songs.

He played seven of the 12 songs from "Mutations." Only the last one, "Debra," is not from that album. Instead, that song would appear on his 1999 album "Midnite Vultures."

This album is 38 minutes long.

01 Cold Brains (Beck)
02 talk (Beck)
03 Bottle of Blues (Beck)
04 talk (Beck)
05 Sing It Again (Beck)

15 Debra (Beck)
