Na última sexta-feira, o canal Hollywood transmitiu o filme "Little Black Book", de Nick Hurran (2004), onde uma das protagonistas tem como ídolo Carly Simon.

No dia seguinte, num trajecto de automóvel até à Golegã, um dos CDs que PPBEAT pôs a tocar foi uma colectânea de Carly Simon, de quem se confessou (muito) fã.

Como há bruxas, aqui vai o primeiro LP que comprei de Carly Simon, em 1973, na Compasso, Campo de Ourique, Lisboa.

À época sempre preferi "His Friends Are More Than Fond Of Robin" e/ou "Embrace Me, You Child" a "You're So Vain".

A produção do álbum, gravado em Londres, é de Richard Perry (que também produziu Ringo Starr) e nele participam, entre outros, Ray Cooper, Vicki Brown, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner, Nicky Hopkins, James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, Doris Troy, Bobby Keys.

Há arranjos orquestrais de Paul Buckmaster, que também já gravou com Ringo Starr.

Adivinhando as vossas interrogações, Paul e Linda fazem coros em "Night Owl".

Mick Jagger, não creditado, faz coros em "You're So Vain", mas Carly Simon jura a pés juntos que a canção não é sobre o Rolling Stone.

Tive a sorte de ter grandes oportunidades para encontrar e conhecer pessoas interessantes. Talvez porque fosse uma miúda gira, nova no bairro e com a porta aberta do camarim.

Em 2003, Carly Simon leiloou com fins de solidariedade o segredo por 50 mil dólares com a condição de se manter... segredo. Se o divulgassem, eu desmentiria...

A resposta à eterna dúvida está na nova versão de "You're So Vain", confessa Carly Simon. Há um sussurro e ele é a chave do puzzle.

Outra novidade: os coros na canção foram originalmente com Harry Nilsson até Mick Jagger aparecer. A canção foi escrita muito antes de Mick Jagger, por isso ele não é candidato.

Comprei este single no dia 07 de Março de 1973 na Compasso, em Lisboa, (não muito longe do Comilão, Daniel).

Carly Simon tinha o verso you're so vain, you probably think this song is about you há mais de seis meses.

And then I went to a party at my sister's house. A man walked into the room and a friend of mine, who was standing next to me, said: doesn't he look like he's just come onto a yacht? So I wrote that down. I tried to train myself to write down any interesting though or image that I might want to use in a song. And then I had this other song that I was writing on the piano called "Bless You Ben". And that became the melody of "You're So Vain". It went "bless you Ben, you came in where nobody else left off".
