an ovation for the atomic giant dimwit

as you all know, sam over at the daily dimwit runs a nice group break.  i've been fortunate enough to snag the dodgers on a few occasions, including in the december break.  sam was busting boxes of 2011 topps chrome, 2011 topps lineage, and 2006 upper deck ovation.  i got some good stuff.  like this chrome ivan dejesus jr atomic refractor
what a face!  and then there was this - a hong-chih kuo rookie card from the ovation box
sweet numbered goodness!

my second team in the break was the tampa bay (devil) rays.  here's a card of carl crawford, who might make his dodger debut this year if all goes well on the inury rehab front
i also got this large evan longria card from the lineage box - is it supposed to be a homage to 1964 topps giant?
whatever it is, it's available for trade.  i'll keep the other stuff.  thanks sam!

trip the cards, fantastic

i've been participating in more group breaks lately (i sure do miss joe collector's monthly group break), and one of the recent breaks was hosted by fantastic catch.  he busted boxes of 2012 topps series 2, 2006 upper deck artifacts, and 2006 upper deck ovation.  i had the dodgers, of course, and i also took the padres since i wasn't sure if there were steve garvey relics in artifacts or not.  here's some of the bounty.

aside from some base dodgers, i got a couple of sandy koufax inserts - the 'cut above'
 and the 'career day' cards
sandy's 'career day' was, according to topps, september 9, 1965.  something about a perfect game.

matt kemp also had a 'career day' in september - september of 2011.
he was 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a home run that day against the giants.  he had another 4 for 5 game against the giants this year, but he only hit 2 doubles and a home run in that game.

moving on to the 2006 product, here's the lone dodger i got out of the artifacts box.  it's jeff kent
i guess the only other dodger in the set is tim hamulack.  i also got kent from the ovation box.
i was hoping to get one of the dodger rookies from this box - billingsley, ethier, kuo, or hamulack - but i had no such luck.  i did get the other dodger veteran, though - jd drew - in both base and gold parallel versions.
i won't bother to show any of the san diego fare since it unfortunately did not include any garveys or piazzas.

thanks for hosting, fc!

great (mr.) scott!

i recently received some cards from mr. scott.  he sent a bunch of dodgers which is just what i wanted.  here's some highlights!

1999 topps darren dreifort
little d at home in dodger stadium.  i really like this card because of the bright home whites and the outfield mural.  too bad darren couldn't stay healthy.

1993 topps eric davis.
this card could be bad ass, with the tattoos showing and the pose, but i would guess he loses points with the pullover tucked in and the oversized sweatband with what i assume to be his likeness.

2009 topps unique manny ramirez
not too sure what is so unique about these cards.  moving on...

2003 bowman chrome leigh neuage
the thunder from down under.  not really, although he is from australia.  neuage's last year in the minors was 2003, when he was 19.  he debuted in the rookie league at age 17.  i wonder if there was an injury or something.  it looks like he had good control (3:1 k:bb) but he gave up a lot of hits.  we will never know.

2006 upper deck ovation jd drew
the only ovation i am inclined to give jd drew is the kind he still gets in philly.  if you can call that an ovation.

2004 upper deck sp prospects shawn green
i have never understood the thinking behind putting the same photo on a card twice.  although i do like 1994 upper deck, and one of the photos on those cards is all scrunched.  i hate when i contradict myself.

2006 bowman joel guzman jersey
joel was once my baseball salvation.  i could not wait for him to get to the majors and lead the dodgers to the dynastic destiny that no doubt awaited them.  it didn't quite work that way, but i still have matt kemp!

thanks mr. scott!  i will have some yankees to you soon!
