Ben went into the Thai place to order his food and while I was sitting out in the car waiting for him I started timing my contractions because they weren't quitting. It was about 6:30 and my contractions were coming at about every 10 minutes. No big deal I thought.
After going and getting my food we decided that instead of going home to eat we would go to one of the buildings on campus and eat our food and then go and walk up and down the stairs. We decided to go the the Hart gym and see if there were any games going on there. We got to the Hart and there were some basketball games going on so we sat and watched basketball and ate our food. My contractions continued for the rest of the night and they were getting worse. After sitting through one and a half basketball games I told Ben I was ready to go home.
We got home about midnight and my contractions were now about 6 minutes apart. We sat up timing them and at about 2 in the morning we decided to call my midwife. She said we could go to the hospital whenever my contractions were too much for me to handle. Well about this time my contractions picked up big time. I couldn't even stand and I felt like I need to push...Ben stayed very calm and told me not to push and somehow helped me to get dressed and out to the car. We raced to the hospital and I thought for sure I was dilated to at least an 8 because I felt like pushing. They checked me at the hospital and they told me I was dilated to a 4...I felt like a pansy!! I was only at a four and couldn't handle the pain!?!?
They took me to my room and Ben told them that I wanted an epidural. After about an hour I finally got the epidural and it was the most AMAZING thing in the whole world! I couldn't feel any more contractions and I was in heaven.
At about 6 a.m. they checked me again and I was dilated to a 7 and the nurse told me that we were definitely going to have the baby today!!! I was so excited! After about another hour and a half they checked me again and they told me that I was all the way dilated and that they were going to go and call my midwife. After about another hour the midwives showed up the real work began. I pushed for about 45 minutes and after all was said and done Reese was here.
It was such a wonderful feeling to hold her for the first time. I loved being able to look into her eyes and see her and fall completely in love with her. What a miracle she is and we are so blessed to have Reese in our home.
Reese was born on Feb. 20th which is her Grandpa Brad's and her uncle Brad's birthday. We seriously contemplated naming her Bradita but thought she would probably like Reese much better!
