An LV Hanging with an Explorer II

...A Note From A Reader....

Scott's Rolex Watches
An LV Hanging with an Explorer II

Scott Shafer sent in photos of his LV and Explorer II, and said:

Hi Jake-

Just wanted to reach out and say thanks for the hard work. I'm a big fan of your work! The amount of effort you go to, to put together Jake's Rolex Magazine is tremendous. I love checking out the Rolex history as well as the general history lessons I get from you.

Here are a few pics of some of my Rolex's.

Scott

Scott, Thanks for sharing your kind words, which I genuinely appreciate very much! I feel the exact same way about the 'general history lessons', in the sense that one of my favorite things about publishing Jake's Rolex World, are the amazing history lessons I get from doing all the research!

All-New Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand Next To Original

...Retro Rolex Design Detail...

All-New Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand
Side By Side Comparison with the Original

Earlier this week we took a look at the all-new Orange Hand Rolex Explorer II in the wild and today we get to see it side by side with its inspiration. Kristian took this side by side comparison shot of hit all-new 42mm Rolex Explorer II "Orange Hand" next to his original first generation "Orange Hand" Explorer II. Basically we see a grandson, next to his grandfather. As Mr. Spock would say "Fascinating Captain." Just for the record, this comparison photo is to exact scale.

...Comparison Of The Day... 1950s Role Moonphase v. LV Submariner

...Comparison Shot Of The Day...

1950s Rolex Moonphase v. LV Submariner

Last time I was down at Fourtane Jewelers in Carmel, California I had a chance try on a yellow gold Rolex Moonphase [Reference 6062] and I just happened to be wearing my LV Submariner on a JAKEe FATSTRAP.

It is fascinating to note the moonphase was made in the early 1950s–literally a half-century before the Submariner. I hope Rolex has the WISdom to bring back the ultra-timeless, triple-date moonphase–PLEASE!!!!!

Standard Rolex Submariner v. LV...

Standard Rolex Submariner v. LV

Antfer took this great comparison shot of his standard 16610 Submariner next to his LV Submariner. I like the LV much better. You just can't beat the Maxi markers and the fat hands and the green bezel.

Rolex Lume Shot of The Day: GMT II next to GMT II Ceramic...

This is not only a great Lume shot, but a great comparison shot of the standard GMT II next to the new Ceramic GMT II with the Supercase, Maxi Markers, Polished Center links, Ceramic Bezel, Triplock Crown, Beefier Crown Guards, Quick comfort extension link, Fat Hands and Rolex running abound the inside the case wall.

Supercase Rolex GMT v. Standard Case Daytona...

This is a fascinating comparison photo because it shows how much bigger the Supercase GMT body is compared to the Daytona. Both watches are 40mm but the GMT Ceramic in Yellow Gold has the Supercase which in to my eyes looks more macho and substantial.

I love the evolution of Rolex design language.  I really like the Maxi Markers, big crown guards, and fat hands.
