Hans Wilsdorf Smartphone Wallpaper by Captain Danny

HANS WILSDORF

Smartphone Wallpaper

by Captain Danny

Our Captain Danny was experimenting with making wallpaper for his iPhone, and he came up with this super-cool wallpaper that shows an artistic version of a photo of Rolex founder, Hans Wilsdorf that was taken in 1906, and he simply put his first name (HANS) below the image.

Captain Danny showed it to me and I was so impressed I asked if we could share it, and, of course, he said yes. So you can download the image below and put it on your iPhone or Smartphone.

Captain Danny never ceases to amaze me with his creativity as he constantly surprises me with great ideas. Speaking of great ideas, if you haven't had a chance, be sure to check out his Coron.et Rolex blog which is very cool.

Captain Danny's Coron.et blog is my favorite Rolex blog, beside Jake's Rolex World, as he always offers superb insight, and he typically does it in bite size pieces, with stories that take around a minute or so to enjoy.

ONE MORE THANG

Captain Danny and I were talking about this article after I published it yesterday, and we decided in the future we plan to build an online library of Rolex images for smartphone wallpaper, and here is another one Captain Danny created to share with you:

...Introducing... The BulletTrain SAFE Wallet for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4s

...Introducing...

The BulletTrain SAFE Wallet
for iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4s

If you are a daily reader of Jake's Rolex World, you know I am a designer, and I also own a company named BulletTrain, which is headquartered in San Francisco, California.  BulletTrain makes super-innovative accessories for Apple products

I am really excited because we just launched an amazing new product I have been working on designing for a few years, and it is named The BulletTrain SAFE Wallet for iPhone. The BulletTrain SAFE Wallet is pictured below, and it is a complete wallet replacement that offers amazing space savings while allowing you to finally get rid of your old-fashioned wallet.

As you can see in the photo below, the SAFE Wallet allows you to carry everything you need, in a beautifully streamlined, trim wallet that is really easy to use. In the photo below you see the contents of my SAFE Wallet which include house keys, a credit card, drivers license, VISA debit card, and a hundred dollar bill. This allows me to leave my home everyday, without having to carry a separate wallet, iPhone and keys.

In the next photo (below) you can see the SAFE Wallet for iPhone 5 next to a classic leather wallet with an iPhone 5 and house keys. The Ruby Red SAFE Wallet is carrying everything pictured next to it, in a space which is smaller than the leather wallet, when it is empty!!!

I believe the BulletTrain SAFE Wallet really reinvents the wallet for the 21st century. In the next photo below, we see the SAFE Wallet in BulletTrain Blue, and it is holding two credit cards, a drivers license, a hundred dollar bill and 6 business cards!!! That's a total of 10 cards, which all fit comfortably in the SAFE Wallet case!

The SAFE Wallet also has a built-in MagicStand™ which allows you to instantly place the SAFE Wallet in portrait or landscape on any flat surface, as you can see in the photo below.

As the designer of the BulletTrain SAFE Wallet, I have been testing prototypes for the last 6 months and I can't believe how useful and powerful the BulletTrain SAFE Wallet is!!!

We just launched the BulletTrain SAFE Wallet for iPhone 5, and iPhone 4/4s on Kickstarer. You can watch our Kickstarter video below to learn much more about this incredibly innovative new product, and if you are interested in Pre-Ordering a BulletTrain SAFE Wallet or learning more, you can do so on the BulletTrain SAFE Wallet Kickstarter page:

If you visit the dedicated BulletTrain.com SAFE Wallet microsite, you can learn way, way more about this incredible new product. There is also a SAFE Wallet Guide that offers valuable insight for how-to digitize almost everything in your SAFE Wallet

All-New iPhone 5 The Rolex Of Smartphones

...Apple Coolness...

All-New iPhone 5
The Rolex Of Smartphones

Apple recently introduced the all new iPhone 5, and now Apple says on the iPhone microsite:

"iPhone 5 is made with a level of precision you'd expect from a finely crafted watch–not a smartphone."

This is really profound if you think about it, but I have a question for Apple design. Why is the iPhone 5 not waterproof? It would be so simple for them make it waterproof like a Rolex Oyster. It seems like a natural evolutionary step. Any quality watch made today is waterproof, and I say it is time for the iPhone to be waterproof as well. Maybe Apple with make the iPhone 6 waterproof.

Even though I publish Jake's Rolex World, I am the CEO and designer at BulletTrain.com and I have been working on developing a revolutionary BulletTrain case for the iPhone 4/4s and iPhone 5, which we plan to launch in mid November, so I have become extremely familiar with the iPhone engineering.

It is fascinating to note the iPhone 5 camera lens now incorporates synthetic sapphire crystal for its lens on the rear camera to make it scratch proof, just like a Rolex.

I am really excited for the iPhone 5 because I believe it is the first iPhone/Smartphone to truly deliver on the promise of being able to carry a world-class computer in your pocket.

Many people have predicted the demise of the wristwatch, saying things like "Who needs a watch, I just check the time on my phone", but the reality is that with a watch, you just glance at your wrist and you know what time it is, which is so much more efficient than having to reach in your pocket and having to turn on your phone every time you want to see what time it is.

Also, I have noticed many younger people wearing wristwatches lately.

Rolex Coolness: Donald Draper- Mad Men Rolex Explorer-Back To The Future

Rolex Super-Coolness: Donald Draper
Mad Men Rolex Explorer
Back To The Future

Mad Men is probably the best show on TV today and it was created and written and produced by one of the producers of the Sopranos named Matthew Weiner. Mad Men just won three Emmy Awards last week, and has won a total of 13 Emmy Awards despite the fact it is only in the middle of its fourth season!!!

The main star of Mad Men is named Donald Draper and he is played unbelievably well by Jon Hamm. In the photo below we see Jon Hamm wearing his now trademark Rolex Explorer.

I can't help but wonder if Jon Hamm wearing the Rolex is product placement or not? I remember last season Jon Hamm talked about getting Rolex as an account, and suddenly this season he is wearing a Rolex Explorer. The reason I think it might be product placement is because he is always wearing it out of his French cuffs proudly, almost like he is trying to constantly show it off, which is just fine by me ;-)

One of the challenges is despite the fact that Season 4 takes place in 1965, his Rolex Explorer appears to have a synthetic sapphire crystal which would make it a bit historically inaccurate.

I guess it does not matter if it is historically incorrect, because in the photo below we see Jon Hamm on the set of Mad Men rocking his 4th Generation iPhone while he is wearing his modern Rolex Explorer ;-) This is fascinating when you look at the corded dial-up phone pictured above and compare it with the 4G iPhone pictured below.

In this next photo we see two of the actors on Mad Men rocking an Apple Macbook Pro on the set of Mad Men which is also kind of funny in and interesting way. I have written extensively in the past about Mad Men, which is fascinating.

iPhone 4 Preview The Future Has Arrived

iPhone 4 Preview
The Ceramic Supercase Stainless Submariner of Smartphones
The Future Has Arrived

The all-new Apple iPhone 4 is on its way to market, and in many ways, it is remarkably similar to the all-new stainless-steel Rolex Submariner that will be hitting the market at the same time. Even the new Super-case on the iPhone is now made from a "special" ultra-high-grade stainless steel.

As many of you know, ever since the iPad came out, I have been working on optimizing Jake's Rolex World to work perfectly on it. As it turns out, doing so has also completely optimized it for the iPhone.

B.T,W., the all-new iPhone 4 is pictured below with its ultra-high-defintion screen which is truly magnificent!!!!

I used to "not get it" when it came to viewing Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone. I used to think that people would only want to really check it out on a laptop or desktop. That was, until I saw it laid-out properly on the iPhone!!! It turns out that it is really an enjoyable experience viewing Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone, and in particular, if you are out-and-about or you are waiting somewhere.

One of the questions you might be asking about the image above, is whether or not you can read Jake's Rolex World in a full-screen "kiosk" mode on the iPhone as depicted above? The answer is yes!!!

All you need, is to go to the Apple iTunes Store, and download a free browser named "Atomic Web," which has a full-screen kiosk mode. Atomic Web Browser works on the iPhone and iPad and allows you to navigate any web page as if it were an actual iPad or iPhone application!!! I decided to optimize all of Jake's Rolex World site for the iPad and iPhone running in Safari, or much better yet, in Atomic Web, as apposed to building applications.

Building separate apps would require maintaining two different databases which is unnecessarily redundant in my mind. Of course you can just check out RolexMagazine.com in Safari on the iPhone or iPad but then you get the ugly address bar and navigation bar which elementally compete with the content. If you use the full-screen mode, in Atomic Web, it looks beautiful. Atomic Web Browser for iPad and iPhone has a free version and the full version in only 99 cents.

When I view Jake's Rolex World on the iPhone and iPad, I only do so in the Atomic Web Browser, which I very highly recommend–and yes, Atomic Web Browser works on all models of iPhone.

Amazing Design

The iPhone 4 is nothing short of stunning!!! It has an all-new 326 pixel per square inch screen which makes it higher in resolution that printed pages in fine books!!! The new screen is 960 x 640 pixels and 3.5 diagonal inches, which gives you 78% of the pixels an iPad has!!!

Just for the record this is 614,400 pixels that are 78 micrometers wide each!!! This all-new innovative ultra-high-resolution screen alone completely changes the nature of the game and will make everything look great including detailed photos.

The new iPhone 4 is also 25% skinnier than the current iPhone and even narrower in width as seen below.

From the specs, the all-new iPhone also has a backlit 5 megapixel backlit camera sensor which should perform really well in low light conditions. The camera also has an LED flash that works both on the still and video camera. It also has a mind-boggling 720P video camera that captures 30 frames per second!!!!!

What does all this mean? It means we will no longer need to carry around a point-and-shoot or a video camera!!!!!!!!

The iPhone also has a new, second VGA camera on the front, to you can video conference or just see yourself like you are looking in the mirror. This will no doubt be popular with women who want to check their makeup ;-)

I could go on forever talking about all the great details that make the upcoming iPhone so compelling, but If you are interested in learning all the amazing details of the all-new iPhone, I highly recommend watching Steve Jobs' 2010 WWDC Keynote.

Rolex Wrist Shot of the Day: GV Milgauss on the new iPhone 3Gs...

First iPhone 3G S Wrist-Shot

Oscar, in Florida woke up at 5am yesterday and went down to the Apple store to pick up the all-new Apple iPhone 3Gs which has a 3 Megapixel camera with a new macro touch screen function. The way it works, is that the new iPhone camera has an auto-focus camera, but if you touch an item on the screen if auto-focuses on just that item. So in this photo Oscar, touched his Rolex Milgauss GV and which put it in focus.

This is the first Rolex Wrist shot I have seen that was taken with the new iPhone and have a feeling we will be seeing many more...

I Want A Good Watch Camera...

For me personally, the significantly improved camera on the iPhone is the main reason I will be upgrading. I can't even begin to tell you how many stunning shots I missed, because of the lame camera on the earlier iPhone. The whole point of having a camera in your iPhone is so you don't have to carry around a separate point and shoot!!! At 3Megapixels, with built in auto-focus and macro point-and-focus, the new iPhone 3G S is a dream come true!!! Also, I have seen video that was shot with the iPhone and it looks really good!!!

I am extremely curious to see what hardware and software features the 4th generation iPhone that will come out a year from now will have and look like. I say this because with the feature-set on the all-new 3G S iPhone Apple picked the last of the low-hanging-fruit (pun not intended). From here on out, it has to be about real innovation and not just cobbling together 5 year old Pocket PC technology that sticks a Motorola Razr inside an HP iPaq...

iPhone 3.0 Software Available...

iPhone 3.0 Software Available
3rd Time Is A Charm!!!

Just in case you didn't notice, Apple just released the all new iPhone 3.0 Software and I have had a chance to mess around with it. It is amazing!!

One of the many great new features is the ability to turn the screen horizontally to type (as seen below). Typing in landscape mode makes it a zillion time easier and far, far more accurate.

The iPhone software can be put on any first or second generation iPhone and comes standard on the all-new iPhone 3GS. The 3.0 makes everything on the iPhone run much, much faster and it makes the iPhone far more responsive. Other great features included in the update include:

• Universal Spotlight Search
• Voice Recorder
• Cut/Copy/Paste
• Sync Your Notes (Although Evernote from Evernote.com is a million times better).
• Stereo Bluetooth (Great for working-out).

A few great tips that are not documented:

1. When you turn on the screen and slide your finger to unlock the screen, the iPhone goes to your home screen with the icons. If you then click on the home button, it will go straight to the spotlight search which is the new hotness for launching apps and finding anything almost instantly.

For instance, lets say you know that the Rolling Stones Jumping Jack Flash is on your iPod and you want to hear it but you don't want to waste minutes looking for it in the iPod. You simply go to spotlight and start typing "jumpi" and it will show up instantly–same with contacts. You get the idea.

2. Instant camera feature tip: This is a great hint if you like to use the camera on the iPhone a lot. The iPhone 3.0 iPhone software has a new feature that you can find by going to "Settings" then click on "General" then on "Home" and select "Camera." This way, wherever you are in the iphone if you double tap on the home button, it will go straight to the camera.

These two features alone make the iPhone so much better!!! If you don't have an iPhone yet, now it is time to get one!!! Especially since they start at $99.
